Unhappy with current MANA system

1) Weird calculations.

100 focus gives 20 FLAT mana -

Then, you equip a ring with brilliant that is supposed to increase mana by a PERCENTAGE:
(I used two different rings to be sure).

The first ring increased my mana from 120 to 130
image

The other one from 120 to 127
image

With the first ring, my mana should be 131.7
With the second ring, my mana should be 128.7

I see here only two options:
- Change the description so that this perk would give FLAT mana and not percentage.
- Change the calculation so extra % is calculated based of the current max mana pool.

I don’t know how to test it unless making a video and slowing it down but do perks that give % mana on hit give an actual percentage of your mana or just flat mana?

2) Mana regeneration.

We are told that our mana regeneration is “100% mana regeneration.” With 50 focus we get extra 10%, but how MUCH is it exactly? How much mana per second is 110% mana regeneration?
This information tells me (us) nothing.

I suggest:
- Change the “Mana Regen Rate” in “Attributes” (under VITALS) into mana per second.
- Add an extra row in VITALS stating the current mana per second.

Another examples:
Energizing hearty meals gives a 30% mana regeneration bonus. How much is it? The number is higher than 0 so it must be a buff right.

Focus potions -

Infused focus potion gives “Exceptional mana regeneration!” Sounds amazing, but how much is it? I had to search the information on nwdb to get this basic information which we all should have just by pointing at the potion (in my opinion).

Spirits united -

This perk just feels like a filler. If 30% mana regeneration is almost nothing, how much is 3%?

3) Mana management (as healer)
Int builds get 10 mana on dodge +
IG >15 mana on crit + 3 mana for spell in frosted area + 15 mana for 3 light attacks hitting the same target
FS > Free heavy attacks that restore 5% of your mana (3 other perks that give mana but they arent as good so not going to mention them).

Now lifestaff - no mana on dodge but extra 20 flat mana and additive 10% mana regen.
3% mana regen from spirits united
5% mana on BLOCK (good luck using this)
Connection - give 2% (per buff) mana if you manage to HEAL someone (unreliable af).

The only reliable way to get mana with LS is to use void gauntlet, which kills the “build variety.” I cant take extra CC or whatever unless I want to use mana potions one after another especially when you are going to nerf the drop rate.

I feel like we are too dependent on potions. Having to use mana potions literally every 20 seconds feels like a bad mechanic.

We need a clear indicator of mana/s. We need a better description of items that give mana regen. I would say that we need either extra perks that increase mana regeneration (without having to kill or hit something) OR make more points in FOCUS increase mana regeneration. Mana potion dependence just feels bad with or without VG.

Rant’s over.

Oh man you gonna get trolled so hard by the people that know how to manage your mana, albeit they don’t use it. But the OPR elite knows all what’s good for you, and how you suck for being a healer, and gotta get your mana regen nerfed just in case this is a reverse psychology attempt.

I agree on the % are shady af, no idea what’s the base number. I always run VG so mana scarcity is rare, but on moderate/long fights (bosses, PvP), pots are a must, we have no mana endurance, but nobody cares, there will be no more healers soon.

Everyone just chugs mana pots. Thats the current sytem.

Any other investment into mana is worthless from what I can tell.
Maybe if you’re a ranged mage you have some mana recovery on heavy attacks etc, but most of the mages I see anymore are IG/VG.

Mana is just another poorly used resource in this game, that COULD be used to balance things, but ends up not being addressed ever. Instead they add cast times nobody likes, or hard nerfs to output numbers.

  • T5 mana potions drop chance reduced by 50%
  • T4 mana potions drop chance reduced by 25%

Per the PTR update notes.

Mana potions are going to be more expensive than health + regen potions.

I’m not a mana user but I agree having all this percentage stuff based on numbers that aren’t anywhere clear is a bit insane. Also it looks like you put some serious thought into all this. I’m giving you a free supportive bump.

After seeing someone else talk about what a joke mana is, I been feeling the same way as you ZaxZax. I doubt anyone will realistically invest points into mana regen (Spirits United is only used as an extra buff) within the Life Staff tree in exchange for extra healing, buffs, or other effects, so removing the mana passives will likely not hurt anyone’s playstyles and will perhaps provide different build avenues if perks like Shared Recovery, Defensive Light, Spirits United, and Connection were removed.

The 50, 250, and 300 Focus perks do not really put you the caster in control of your mana unlike a mage with the 200 Int perk. I really would like the 50 Focus perk to operate like siphoning blow with a 2-4 second cooldown so that Int users could at least consider dropping 50 points into Focus. 250 Focus is hit or miss in PvP and gives you nothing in a lot of Expedition Boss fights. 300 Focus really is not felt since it never really worked before the Feb Patch and 80 mana over 10 seconds on a 60 sec CD is AWFUL (two/three mana potions in that time frame).

We really need better mechanics to manage our mana considering how unintuitive the whole process is when you can just spam skills, spam mana potions, and never go OoM.

Can you link me to the notes? Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

I do agree that pots should be from mostly crafters, to make those people more viable and better used.

Especially in gens where I’m just flamethrower constantly and popping oblivions yeah I chug mana pots
