Unpopular opinion: The economy is fine

I don’t have a choice, I literally am working 13 hours a day 6 days a week. I was rounding up, though, I got the 350 hour achievement yesterday. I definitely never left my client open when I wasn’t on, too afraid of getting in trouble.

you have no data that suggests its a net negative.

its also not relevant to server gold generation if everyone generates gold, as long as gold is generated and moving into the economy.

housing costs are mostly gold transfer, not gold destruction

the main source of gold destruction is repairs, and thats mostly because master repair kits are bugged, and they probably made the repair part costs too expensive.

even with repair costs, players generally can reduce death through better gears, and certain playstyle behaviors (grouping) these factors also increase earning.

And you have failed reading the entire post

Considering the devs agree that there is a concern with the economy, I think that says otherwise.

When you sell at the auction house you’re getting circulated gold from other players.

That’s not the argument why the economy is suffering.

The problem is new gold isn’t being created for end game players.

The majority of new gold comes from main and side quests. Killing monsters, salvaging, and town boards creates very little gold.

When a LV 60 finishes all his or her quests, there are very few things that can create new gold.

Property tax, settlement tax, trading tax, removes gold from circulation.

When total amount of currency stops increasing, gold becomes more valuable than the goods you want to buy. We have deflation.

A booming economy exists when total spending is increasing at a high rate over time. To match that activity the money supply or the currency in circulation, must increase or the economy will slow down. To increase the money supply, the system in place must “print” new money.

To find that perfect spot of creating new money is difficult. Printing too little money will invite deflation. Printing too much money will cause inflation. This is why economists say, “2% inflation is the best measure.”

In MMORPGs, players will experience a high amount of inflation over time. Usually NPC merchants keep prices of everyday goods stable due to static prices.

Well you’re wrong. Currently the game has a massive deflation problem. Owning towns isnt worth it because it ends up being a waste of gold. End game activities dont give nearly enough gold. PvP is a complete waste of gold since none is earned and it costs so much for repairs. No offense but " I put in 400 hours in 30 days and have made over 100k gold" is not the experience of the vast majority of players and we shouldn’t balance the game around that kind of play experience.

people who say that there is no problem have no idea how money work. a little inflation is necessary for a healthy economy, it is practically a universal rule in modern economics. deflation is a huge long term problem
we need a regular but adjustable money creation

Gold isn’t finite and your numbers don’t make sense because we’d all literally be broke if what you claim is true. We’re not, though, because the economy is fine. It’s your mindset that’s the problem.

Agreed here. I think people are too used to WoW and big numbers. The most expensive thing on my server is 45k, and that is a voidbent bp. Not many items cost over 10k though. Most high end items such as t5 satchels with great perks, crafting armor, actually good armor/weapons, etc are in the 4-7k range.

I don’t think it’s asking too much that players spend more than a few days to earn enough money to buy what will essentially be a BiS item for the foreseeable future.

This isn’t true at all.

Imagine posting a Kotaku article that is 100% the opinion of a single author and claiming it as fact. It’s no more factual than what I posted and arguably I have more hours in the game and experience with the games economy than the author.

People who say there is a problem have no idea how the games economy is actually working and just using the little information they have and trying to figure it out. There being items on an AH at 0.01g isn’t a sign of inflation it’s a sign of overproducing a product there is no demand for.

There are plenty of ways to make money that don’t involve other players, you just have to get out there and figure it out. The fact that AGS dropped a twitter comment about the easiest way to make money a few hours ago implies they are telling people the economy is just in need of tweaks and not completely broken. Just people people aren’t doing the things that generate gold doesn’t mean there isn’t ways to generate gold in game.

Considering the devs dropped a twitter comment about how you COULD be making significant gold instead of acknowledging a problem implies otherwise.

There is tweaking needed for sure, but it’s looking more and more like they are going to go the route of caution and less gold.

You’re delusional.
