My 2 cents on the healer topic. There are builds for killing us, (bb/ig, bb/sp, bb/wh, hatchet/sns, wh/sns) where they focus on staggers, stuns and 1 shots. Also builds that are notoriously max medium or heavy weight can be made light to have a good effect as well. ex. ga/wh, vg/ig, ig/bb. There are also ways to pressure us so team fights win, such as flamethrower, Bows, and muskets. Muskets are the true bane of the game, as they can 2 shot players really easily with all the damage perks in this game. However this is a healer discussion. The biggest reason healers live free in OPR, and open world is a lack of skill, and coordination. Ill give an example of a few scenarios and how they turn out.
3 bad players vs 1 highly skilled healer, healer lives free.
3 bad players in comms vs 1 highly skilled healer, healer peels, but lives somewhat free.
3 decent players vs 1 skilled healer, healer runs and peels, but can still heal.
3 decent players in comms vs 1 skilled healer, healer can die as they can combo and kill easily.
1 bad schizo vs healer, healer runs away as they cant dps the schizo to death, forcing bad heals.
1 good schizo vs healer, healer dies, or barely escapes.
Firestaff vs healer. healer forced to reposition and during the escape, 2 teammates die.
This is really a lack of skill and coordination, rather than “Life staff too good.” Can’t burst a player in 2 seconds? Heals op. Can’t do over 2k dps a second? Sacred ground+ beacon too op. Can’t kill a healer with your offmeta trash 550gs build? If you chase them off the fight the players the healer was healing will die anyways, so its still effective.
Overall, its a skill issue and a prio issue of players. Yes the life staff is good in a good players hands. I wouldn’t expect a 500 hour player to solo kill me when I have over 3k hours in the game, that being said, they can still chase me to narnia and have my group die because of it. 1 healer chased at the cost of 1 player is worth it as its essentially making 4 players die. Lifestaff is already being nerfed with rapier changes, mistakes in patches causing LOS issues, and most importantly an increase in raw damage in the game, making more burst and instakills possible. If they die in 2 seconds, they cannot be healed in time. sacreds dont tick enough to save them, and you kill through the heals. I dont see an issue with the weapon, the biggest issue ingame currently is hitscan muskets hitting 7k per hit from 50m+ away, as they have 30% empower, which causes things like BOWPR. Hopefully this was insightful, but after 3 Life staff nerfs straight, and like 4 rapier nerfs, I’d hope Life staff is in a suitable place for what it is, as I already have to “tech” through alot of things to get heals to work correctly.
