Unwarranted Grinds Creeping In

Seeing posts on various tweaks to grinds creeping into the game. GS expertise for example seems to be very slow when compared to other weapons at least from chest drops, new hardstones put behind dungeons, new resources a pain to get in quantity etc etc.

I understand the need to drive players towards under utilised content, but really AGS you need to be careful you don’t alienate what casual players you have left.

You need to be clever with your grinds (all MMO’s have and need grind) not just have brick walls all over the place.

All the so-called hardcore players will ditch new world once they get a better offer to feed their fix somewhere else, worth remembering that.

Just an opinion.

Adding higher grind ceilings doesn’t just push away casual players, but a lot of competitive PvP players too.

I joined the game and love it for the PvP aspect of the game, I don’t enjoy the PvE, but in the excitement for the PvP this game provided I was devoted to pushing to endgame efficiently. In the first week of launch I hit 60 with the motivation that I’m never going to have to push to 60 again and will then be able to enjoy PvP to the fullest. If the game was as much of a grind-fest as the majority of MMOs out there, I wouldn’t have picked up the game, even though I intended to play the game competitively and sink many hours into it.

Likewise when the game’s population was tanking, and the main thing you heard when people discussed the state of NW was “THE GAME IS DEAD! THERE’S NO CONTENT!”, I was watching Shroud playing NW on twitch. At the time a bunch of people were making that cry of “the game is dead” in his chat. His response was that the people making that cry just didn’t get it. He claimed, and his claim reflected my opinion perfectly, that New World had infinite content, for competitive PvP you make the content. Recently Shroud has been playing New World again, on his stream he said he loves this game and never once thought it was dead.

The majority of the people who ever cried that the game was dead were the people who came from MMOs and wanted New World to have the same grind-fest content that existed in their other games, but that wasn’t by any means the entirety of the non-casual player base. Honestly I think the majority of the people who stuck with NW and faith in till now are exactly the people who don’t want grindy content to be competitive in the PvP scape of the game.

Gs is slow because it is your only item that needs expertise. A developer recently stated exp bumps arent actually guaranteed. It rolls loot first then exp. So 1 in x item type chance at getting a gs then chance at exp. The more items the worse exp will be.

This is a very fair point, also, a lot of people that made the grind to 600 gear score expertise probably forgot how long it took to get it there and were more satisfied with process. Now they are at the 600 expertise for everything except the GS so they already feel like they are at the top and it doesn’t feel like there is any progress they are gaining by grinding something else to that point. Instead it is just a chore to get something new to that point.

before they did the last patch wasn’t getting any GS expertise updates, after the patch bam, 2-3 bumps just from playing and looting chests. Smelly fish somewhere, or the random chance monkey hiding real good :stuck_out_tongue:
