Well it’s not specifically mentioned in the TOS. Not even remotely mentioned. So your argument works against you here.
If it’s not in their TOS, why would I need to cater to this?
You don’t see an Issue with this? Imagine playing I don’t know Monopoly. And the owner of the game tells you - well you need to go to jail, because it’s my game and I make the rules. So whatever dice roll you have - you need to go to jail! Would you really just go to jail and accept this?
Obviously you don’t know what I did. Neither do I. It’s just a name. I don’t know who you are or why you are trying so hart to spin me into a bad person?
I don’t know if you’re being intentionally obtuse or you just don’t realize you are, but either way, having a character named fart-whatever in an online fantasy world is not going to be acceptable by any gaming company.
It doesn’t have to be spelled out word for word in the TOS. It’s common sense.
I have this name or variations of it (Raspberry Fart) in several games / online services. Including Twitter, ESO, WOW, Destiny2, The Division 1 /2, Ark Survival, Monster Hunter World, Battlefield 2042 and many more.
Common sense is not very common.
You are pretending like this is a thing with all fantasy games, but it’s not. It really isn’t. I have played so many games over the past, including fantasy games ofc. Nobody has ever found offence to this.
Honestly what AGS does there doesn’t make sense, and it’s for sure not specifically about the name change itself. People in this comment section keep sticking to the fact that it’s about what the name means and whatever - but that’s partially besides the point.
People on our server have been reported for basically nothing just to get banned for 24 hrs, in time for them to miss an important war. The report system overall is flawed and the statement in regards to bots just proves that. There’s been mining bots we mass reported that still run around after 5 days and other people said stuff like ‘‘you’re mental’’ and got banned for 24 hrs within 1 day.
It’s just very cringe on their part and as much as people want to point fingers at the name itself, there’s multple things in the ToS that should get a bot banned as well as their ‘‘exploit threshhold’’ that should have recognized a lot of missbehavior beforehand. A lot of other games have filters within name creation that tells you right away ‘‘this name contains inappropriate words’’ and you can’t create an account using that name.
Although it’s a new game and I really much want it to succeed and love playing it, there are many more major violations that we report and not getting taken care of. I know there will be some keyboard warriors trying to say things in AGS’ favor whilst probably flaming the game in every other way, but I don’t really care. That’s just the way I’ve seen things first hand from experience and that system has to change in order to prevent ppl from beng target banned before major events that lead them to miss out on them.
While I’m not a fan of those kinds of names, it absolutely should not be considered offensive. Farting is a natural body function that people can’t control. There’s nothing offensive with this and I’d rather see name changes go to people with actually offensive language.
Please stop saying f*rt you guys are making me so mad and stressed right now. I swear to god if one more person says that word I’m going to get in touch with the head offices of Amazon themselves for the blatant moral obscenities that I’ve been predisposed to while browsing this forum, you’ve been warned.
Regardless of the name itself and what people might think about it, I have the context of the player, of the server, of previous scenarios and of the timing.
The real issue behind this scenario is abuse of the reporting system in an attempt at getting a PvP edge during a war for territory last night where we already didn’t have enough players to fill out both defence wars.
I’ve now had to warn my faction to watch their comments in global because any message including the word “fart” or worse is apparently now ammo enough for rival factions to mass report prior to key wars.
The outrage is that in forcing him to change his name, it sets a precedence that anyone can be “legitimately” mass reported for a PvP edge.
Once they see they were successful, it may lead to people baited out angry comments that can be mass reported prior to wars with no repercussions.
Is anything being done to audit mass reports and apply penalties on instances that are clearly abusive attacks?
