Walking Simulator

But just to be clear, to date. AGS has,

Removed the cost to sprint, and made it permanent.

Increased sprint speed.

Increased sprint speed on roads.

Added teleports to expeditions

Added additional teleports to territories

reduced azoth cost to almost nothing

All of that could have been solved with mounts. But they did everything possible to try to reinvent the wheel on this issue.

The hypocritical answer from those who are deathly against mounts is that they don’t want to lose the teleports, because they are incredibly convenient. But they don’t want mounts, because that would somehow be too convenient lol.

It would absolutely be overkill to have as many teleports as we do now, AND mounts. Sure.

I’m just saying mounts would have been better, and made more sense. And even had the opportunity to have utilities. And made things like stamina matter more by keeping the stamina cost to sprint ect.

All of those things could have been neat, and immersive.
But we got teleports every 800-1000m instead.

Go figure.

Doesn’t help. This game is still one of the worst offenders in that regard and no, cheaper fast travel hasn’t changed that.

It has without question changed that. I walk probably 5% of what I use to. It’s not even debatable to someone being honest.

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Teleporting breaks the immersion of the game, using Mounts isn’t going to make me miss something along my travels. It gets me faster to where I want to go but I can also continue to explore, where as using a Shrine completely skips you from “exploring the world” (as that’s the argument upon using mounts). Using a Mount would still let you explore, come across any interesting stuff yet still get you to the Quest/farm area.

I’d much rather use Mounts. Still, i’m not asking for anything crazy. There’s times when I’m playing and finish a quest or farming route and think I gotta Teleport to my home, then Teleport again to another Shrine (so more loading screens) and continue walking to the next quest/farm. So I usually just log off for the night.

Note that this isn’t to say I don’t appreciate what AGS has done to make travelling better and less cumbersome, which they have done great at (no fast travel costs/more shrines, speed buff on roads). The changes they have done have helped lower the time “traveling” and more time “playing” the games content.

I just feel all that could have been circumvented with Mounts.

What if you’re out spending hours a day farming materials? That time could be cut in half with a 50% speed mount. This means you would have twice the play time that you could devote to doing something else. I bet if they brought in mounts every single person that’s opposed to it would be using them, but if you truly would rather not use them you have that choice.

Could you please tell me what you discover beside some tents with same mobs around them and some journals that you can’t read on the spot because of the mobs attacking you or have missing pages? I love exploring in games but this is a bad game for exploring. No hidden caves, no secret puzzles, no easter eggs.

With light armo dodge roll, axe charge and fire staff burnout, I can get from node to node pretty quickly I wouldn’t even use mounts in that situation. Most ore mining and motes I farm are in areas you have to climb rocks or in caves with mobs. Cutting trees would never use since trees are too close together. I really have no use for mounts… maybe if I could ride a tame that farms hyssop for me. But then again, this isn’t ark. With all the things I think new world needs, mounts are at the bottom of the priority list.

This a perfectly reasonable argument

Good for you, what about non light armor and the other weapons besides axe/staff/rapier?

You are farming. I only wear enough gear to get me to light and just use ga and Fs just for speed. My stats and weapons composition doesn’t matter to me.

IMO this is only an issue during the leveling process, once you get to 60 and have all the fast travels unlocked its a non-issue.

During leveling you will unlock the fast travel shrines as you do the questline naturally but once you unlock a shrine you are almost never going back to use it because the quests moves on to a different area.

Axe and Firestaff provides quite a bit of mobility like stated above and renders a mount kinda useless. Im not for or against mounts but i do think adding mounts would hurt both PVP and PVE. Pvp because people will surely exploit the mounts fully and cheese fights and PVE because the game is shallow and the faster you experience it the faster you will be let down.

What’s the point? You could click one button and ride a mount, allowing you to wear gear you can fight in, specially if farming leather.

The way I see it is that if you want to pvp you have to toggle it on so when you toggle pvp on you can’t use your mount, simple! When I’m pve after 2-3 hits you get knocked off and can’t summon your mount until out of combat. All the systems are in place for this so all they need are the mounts themselves.

Really hope they get added as if they were in the game I would actually ride to places instead of fast travelling everywhere

They just disable mounts when you are flagged for pvp it’s literally the easiest thing to balance! Make mounts pve only! Literally no negatives at all……

Heh you most not have been here at launch, cause the game is now 1000 times better in this respect. Probably a large part of the reason why the game dropped so many early on ……

I never found this to be the case in Lotro. Mounts were great in both pvp and pve. Basically if you aggro something in pve or someone hit you in PvP you were dismounted. One could only remount once out of combat.

You also could not attack anything while mounted, so that forced you to dismount as well.

Are you talking about mounts that just appear out of nowhere? No thanks. And a mount I have to get on and off of every time to harvest a node, not interested in that either. I’d much rather have AGS use their limited resources for new content, fixes, performance, areas. Mounts is just below swimming on my list. And I couldn’t care less about swimming… and having mounts is just more ability for people to ride away. Makes no sense for pvp.

Literally disable mounts when flagged for PvP….

You don’t have to use mounts if you don’t want.
Would you rather have a system there that has no effect on you that you can choose to use instead of not having it at all?

I do agree though that as much as I would love mounts in the game there are far bigger issues that need solving first, but mounts would have no negative impact on the game and could even add more options for future content.

yeah, you got fast travel points, an inn, and what, 3 houses you can fast travel to? 30 minutes to get from X to Y to Z? hardly… I’ve ran in full heavy from the very bottom of the map to the very top and even that was roughly 15-20 minutes… I dunno… you lost me

Definitely would take longer that 20 minutes to go from top to bottom on foot.

It gets boring fast travelling everywhere and as they start adding in new zones which are hopefully both large and visually interesting it would be nice to explore these areas but not have to spend ages holding W or using auto run.

Also having mounts would give that extra level of customisation and could even combine that into the crafting system giving more use to the crafting professions.

Having mounts in the game overall would make for a more enjoyable experience and people that don’t care for them don’t have to use them
