War System Ended the New World

Wars bring out the worst in people who play this game. It’s bizarre.

Well probably 70-80% things in game ending this game

…So in other words… it will never change. There never will be variety, Gravity Well and AoE spam will always be a problem and the Devs will not address it. Great Axe will be the top weapon in the game until this game is not played anymore, that I can guarantee. The other problem is the META mind set of the players, they want to win so they just spam this same stuff over and over.

The game needs a hard-counter to mass GW and mass AoE spam (something like a Black King Bar from Dota).

ESO gets wars right. The war runs for days, and it’s open for any faction members to join. The map is huge, and the score is tallied over a long time. At the end of the war, the faction with most points win. I was having fun in wars in ESO in my first week

Pretty much yes. The way the game mode works this is the best strategy. Really its the only strategy. Only two ways to change it really… Get rid of AoE spam or change how the game mode itself works.

To be fair out of the 15+ MMOs which I’ve played large scale PvP in. Only 2 of them didn’t revolve around AOEs. I don’t think that’s the issue. The issue here is how boring and dumb down New World’s META and combat is. Where instead of worrying about positioning and using the right AOEs at the right time. And responding to the enemies counterplay to your initial AoE burst.

I’ll try in vain to spell out the issues.

1.) There is no counterplay to CC spam. There is only grit but, not everyone gets grit. Like in GW2 and ESO in large scale. You are managing your CC break skills at the right time to try to change the tempo of the fight. In BDO you basically rotate Super Armors and I-Frames while fishing for gaps in the enemies’ protection. New World has none of this. Which makes combat as one dimensional as it is now.

2.) The war mechanic in New World is just not compatible in an MMO. At least without steadfast policing by the Devs. There is many other ways other MMOs dealt with this issue. The most popular method, is to give all players in each faction access to 24/7 war mode. Or they could’ve went the route of only allowing wars to be active for 1 to 2 hours a day. That way the top 1% of the playerbase can’t lock out the rest from a core feature of the game.

3.) Past blunders have created a few Superpowers (Supremely Geared Mega Companies). At the moment New World’s PvP scene is less accessible than a P2W Korean Grinder’s PvP is to F2Pers. For a new player or low geared returning players to get to the point. Of being a factor against these Superpowers, takes 600+ hours of grinding mostly everything but PvP.(There are some people actually in these forums. Who say they have over 1200 hours of gameplay in New World. That they still don’t have a piece of BiS gear.) Amazon can fix this elephant in the room type issue. By adding a separate 24/7 instance of three faction warfare for casual players.(The casual 24/7 war mode don’t have to give out gear rewards. Just a little something.) That way if a player wants, they can engage in mass scale PvP.

And before anybody says anything. Prior to the November patch, where my Everfall holding company all but 4 quit the game. I was included in that batch. I went back to playing Black Desert Online.

we need war cooldowns 1 war per day. This way will change map

1 hour cooldown does pretty much nothing. It’s a placebo fix. No less than a minimal of 3-hour war exhaustion cooldown will help the issue. Or else people will continue to do what they do now.

No leader wants to risk loosing their territory or attacking enemy. That’s why the elite PVP players are selected, the ones they trust, the ones who did help pushing influence, who understands tactics and know how to execute it. Most of those players train together during OPR, duels, test their abilities and combined combos. And they are available, even 1 hour before the event.

Me personally, I did ±10 wars as a tank, because I was sure I could not handle other tactics. I took my time, and learn the process and how-to. Now I play as melee DD, I have done so far 45 wars (def/attack) and won 29 on them.

I used to have no guild, and to get noticed as good pvp player I did alot of OPRs, and duels. Start killing people, they will notice you. Now I am part of really nice guild

But, if anything works, I guess create your own guild, push some influence, declare war, prepare buff food for everybody, tactics and revendicate the territory!

@viniciusro The problem is these super companies are cheating to maintain their power. And the Devs continue to turn a blind eye to all of the cheating. So, many people lost interest in New World in general. Just like many people lost interest in APB when those Devs and “Tryhard” players did the same thing.

People have to deal with cheaters IRL getting over and taking advantage of them. Gamers in mass will not deal with such in their entertainment spheres. And if Devs like AGS refuse to police their games. Well people just stop playing.

Unfortunately its too late to police things. The damage is already done. There is no mass influx of players waiting to happen. MMO players have already tried and left NW. The best they could do is hope to keep the players they have and maybe get a few back.

Its funny because all these exploiters and workarounds and dupers and rmt people dont get bans or maybe they get a slap on the wrist. The mega corps that are literally driving people away from the game sealing its fate by circumventing systems are left alone to keep doing what they want. Yet players that do nothing wrong have been getting banned a lot lately with no way to actually appeal it even though they did nothing wrong. The appeal process is just a copy/paste denial.

Right? At this point, there are so few servers that you can hire a handful of people to police the entire game. Just sit in Global and see how toxic it gets.

That’s true, luckily any of my servers/mergers face the “super companies”.
About bugs/cheating I don’t know, must be proved, but yeah that’s game breaker.

True story bro…

I don’t think wars are fun atm, and I don’t think large scale have the same potential as small scale. I think AGS made a mistake when they focused on large scale, companies and wars. It is exclusive and limits the chances of a successfull game.

I wrote more about what I think about it here:

Side note. I think it is funny how some players think they are the most skilled player because they play in wars. How can they even know? Wars are all about meta builds and meta tactics/gameplay. It is also the most scripted gameplay in this game imo. Individual skills does not matter much in wars. If you spam OPR or duels you will probably develop much better, more skilled, gameplay than from playing wars. When ranked, cross-server, arenas comes out, we will see what players are truly the best.

It will not work ppl will make a big zergs and the most popular nation always will win due to having more players. 50v50 is fair system, but I dont know why ppl who have not found their spot in one company for wars wont just do their own company and start participating in wars. For everyone the best choice is just have a constant team. Well tbh I dont see any other solution than makin your company for those outcasts ir just wait until someone from this steam just stop play NW.

I mean it doesn’t help when the top end gear to compete in these wars is 300k-500k plus Asmo for ONE piece of gear sure isn’t helping matters. Only people who can afford a full set of top tier gear are rich companies buying the gear for members (or paying them), top tier crafters making and using or the gold from the stuff they are crafting and gold buyers.

Your average player can not afford to gear up to compete in Wars.

8 pieces of gear plus two weapons.

Top tier weapons go for even more, some reach 1 million gold.

I just have to jump in here to say that ESO does NOT get wars right…or PVP in general right.

ESO has good combat - its different than New World in many ways, but it has a skill cap. With that said, theres a reason a TON of people who were ESO PVP mains left in September to play this game.

PVP in ESO is an afterthought - it is an EXTREMELY casual game, and they made a decsision YEARS ago to neglect and abandon PVP in favor of PVE.

Cyrodil, the “faction” war, has had vitually nothing added to it in 8 years, and is sorely lacking in content. A lot of people, in my opinion, make the mistake of thinking the biggest problem in ESO is performance - its not. The devs in ESO dont pay attention to PVP and it shows.

So yeah, dont go to ESO for PVP lol

Wars/sieges must be free for all. Any company can declare war and search for allies and defenders can also search for allies. Just like in Lineage2

this is by far the most reasonable post about NW wars I’ve read in a long, long while
