they don’t need to sit anywhere but their feedback and report ticket system. every day i report at least one bot (that i’ve probably previously reported), and submit feedback regarding anywhere from a blocked node to exploits being openly used against intended game design that effect the overall server/game health. it gets exhausting playing the meta meta game for AGS.
What do you mean by theme park?
It’s not generally about how good you are, it’s about who you know and how much you talk yourself up to the people slotting wars.
In theme park games, in order to “progress”, you show up and ride the rides that have been planned for you. In New World, those rides are chest runs, expeditions, and to some minor extent, PvP and crafting.
But even the PvP and crafting still pretty heavily expect you to do chest runs and expeditions if you want to make meaningful progress. This curated experience is diametrically opposed to the concept of a sandbox, in which you are free to effectively pursue many avenues of gameplay.
1.) Crafting gates like trophy materials and crafting outfits from chest runs → Themepark
2.) Top end PvP gear gained from expeditions and top end crafting (see #1)-> Themepark
Are any part of chest runs locked behind crafting and PvP? No. In fact you can farm “PvP” honor marks without ever flagging.
Ride the rides or don’t bother playing. That’s a themepark.
@ComfortablyNumb Why would I do that here, when I can be slotted in every mass scale War in BDO? Why do that here, when I can have fun 24/7 warring up in Cyrodiil in ESO? Why do that here when I can have fun 24/7 WvWing it up in GW2? I mean come on give it up.
Very few, outside of the sweaty tryhard cheaters. Are going to enjoy this nonsense. When other action combat MMOs that have way more depth and counterplay in their combat system. Offers 20 times better than what New World attempts to. And for you people, that is or will become a problem here soon. Like I said I’m expecting in August, the peak concurrent players for New World. Will be under 5,000 players worldwide. At what point do you people start to think. “This isn’t working all that much?”
So basically an mmorpg.
You shouldn’t. You should focus on the games you like like BDO and let us focus on the games we like like new world. You surely won’t find me on BDO forum criticizing it in attempt to discourage people who like it.
@ComfortablyNumb Ok I hope you are trolling. But just in case. Would you not consider GW2, ESO, Eve Online, and BDO MMORPGs? Would you say that a game can only either be a MMORPG or a sandbox?
I don’t play those games cause I find them boring. I like the diversity of new world and “theme park” style games…
A themepark MMORPG, yes.
That’s exactly how the delineation came about. It’s not some obscure thing I made up, it’s been around for over a decade, ever since shallow thinkers had trouble understanding that a game like UO or SWG could be MMOs in the same capacity that WoW could.
@ComfortablyNumb Oh i perfectly understand people like yourself. Would find the skill floor in those MMOs to be unattainable. Thus, would stay far away from them.
As long as we understand that your “theme park” designation is not unique to new world, nor is it a negative for many people that like those elements in games. You simply use it as a derogatory, when it’s not to many.
Yes, this coming from the guy who is god tier pvper who can’t kill low skilled players because of gear. Smh
There really no call for an insult here. Sandbox or Themepark, nothing is wrong with either type. There are different things to do in each that people can find fun. I don’t believe that one type has a higher “skill” requirement than the other either.
It’s an absolutely acceptable design and many people enjoy them.
The problem lies in that New World was built to be a sandbox, and then in the last bit of development they decided to radically change a huge portion of the game, leading to the identity crisis of a game it is now. (It also caused 3 more delays.) And for what? Are we under the impression the game is better as a whole because of it? Active player population doesn’t line up with that. We’re below indie level numbers with a AAA budget.
Many of the most popular aspects of the game are remnants of the action-combat sandbox design. The things people WANT to do but are mad that they have to grind the themepark rides in order to get to the fun. All the life staff complaints? Directly caused by AGS shifting to a holy trinity model to support their new PvE themepark endeavors. That and many other pains from the shift are written all over the forums.
these guys are only here to insult “low skilled” players and people who like new world. It’s childish at its core, but it’s why they are here.
The only people that will agree are the 90% of bads that didn’t get in.
And what is your suggestion regarding zergs? On Bifrost, when it existed, greens made up 75% of the server at the start. How else could we have expected to take Windsward from them if it was an open world thing? We’d just get run over by 200 people and never take anything.
@Khanzy You sure about that? I was more than likely taking regions before you even thought about this game.
But the cheaters and the shitters cried to the Devs to make the game gearbase. So they can cheat to beat us. Once AGS listened to these shitters. Over 60% of the population at the time dropped New World like a bad date. ![]()
