[WARNING]Game Crash - Black Screen - Bricked GPU!

I had a crash on my 3080 ti after updating to the newest drivers. I reverted to old drivers (472.12) and no crashes since. Hope this helps!!

Glad someone gets it. Bravo.

I’m retired and no longer have access to information that my engineering company had. That being info on all the parts used in comps. graphic memory, vrms, you name it. I don’t know what the new graphic memory is rated at temp wise, Be it 100c or 105c or 110c. Is the throttling setting to high currently for Nvidia 3xxx video cards? I have questions but no answers. Even if the memory can handle that temp what about the VRMs? The memory temp goes up and pcb parts also increase as a result. The VRM temps go up and they then lose efficiency. As their efficiency decreases their temps so up as well as now they require more amps. So watts keep going up and up as temps rise. A very vicious cycle. This is why downclocking works for a lot of people. It’s all about the temps and consequently the watts.

I have a 2080 Super and cannot play the game unless I use a GPU tuning app to scale the power back to 70%. I had zero issues in beta, not sure why release is different.

*edit to add: If I leave my GPU at stock settings, I either crash at the menu or can play about 5min before my screen goes black and fans go to 100%.

A somewhat technical explanation of what may be causing these problems…

there are older cards having problems

older parts tend to break if they are not cared for properly. twice a year i disassemble and clean my rx580

Just Ignore Wildtothebone, he’s been trolling in these posts about people getting their GPU bricked. He doesn’t even have the hardware to participate in this discussion, no offense

try an older driver 472.12 worked for me

I went pretty far back in driver revisions with no luck. I’ll try this though and let everyone know how it goes.

For what it’s worth, and I don’t claim that this applies to everyone, but the bricked EVGA GPUs in New World were identified to have been caused by a bad soldering connection in the first generation of the GPU. A five-minute Google search confirmed this. It’s pretty hard for a game using standard DirectX calls to brick a GPU, or it would be the sort of thing we’d see a LOT more often in graphics-intensive games or exploited by malware developers.

Before you send the card back, look to see if there is any information about when the card was manufactured, as EVGA identified a defect with a certain card run, and if they replaced your card with another one from that time, it would have the same problem. Make sure you get a card from a later manufacturing run if you can.

Use geforce now

LOL ya, the card run is “everything 30** series”

Well, that’s no fun.

My card is actually fine. Been playing for 3 weeks with no crashes now. However, NW did kill my corsair TX650M power supply. I installed a new PSU and have been running New World capped at 60 frames with GPU power set to 80% in MSI Afterburner. No trouble anymore. I would recommend anyone who is playing on a 30 series card do the same.

sounds like a hardware issue. “replaced power supply, works fine”

After receiving a replacement GPU from EVGA - and having it fail as well - I received a revision 1.0 (the original one was the EVGA RTX 3090 FTW Ultra rev 0.1), also known as ‘black lips’ and have had no issues.

I can see that using GPU-Z that the power management on the card is actually doing what it should - limiting the performance where required and the power draw would exceed spec.

So bottom line as far as I’m concerned is that this issue is cause by defective or badly designed hardware. Although I also think that NW seems to be fairly inefficient and causing GPUs to hit their limits (and where the card is faulty or not designed well break those limits).

And note that i use a gtx970 and can and do at times overclock the card by +16% and set the power limit to 112% and the game runs fine. I also watch core voltage and it’s extremely steady. Been playing for an hour with gpu at 100% usage and overclocked and power limit has hit 87% max. I’m certainly not upgrading to a 20xx or 30xx series card with their current issues. Until they come out with a driver that can lower the power limit and fix the voltage spikes and or an updated bios to resolve the issues i’m passing. Bad engineering.

rx580 is a win.
