I am glad of this change to be honest, the adjustment to spawn locations needs to be tested first.
The fault currently held by wars is not the numbers of people but the overall structure of the wars.
having 3 point cap will always end in a zerg based playstyle as thats what its for.
The major issues in my opinion are:
Server Stability (how this is still an issue really worries me and something on the backend is majorly wrong for this much input and sync delay) 50v50 is not a large scale and has been achieved in many games. this also leads into why are the Wars not instanced to assist with demand on the servers.
War Structure - There is no incentive to do anything else but hit 3 points. If the war had a different playstyle such as “get the ram to the wall and defend it to break the doors” or “take the war camp to gain access to assault the walls” sort of playstyle would fix this mass hammer point mentality. There is cannons on the side of the fort that i dont believe are used for anything but horns, it feels as though a design was being implemented and then the simplistic A,B,C system was added instead. The fault is in the design.
Pre-War - Having 30+ people run missions for 30mins+ to get a chance at a war is not a very sustainable game decision especially for low pop servers or small/medium companies. There is no incentive to assist other companies to run areas either. So only busy servers get this game designed outcome (i am on barri so our running isnt an issue but is still the most boring part of the game currently)
These 3 issues should be the focus, there should be less looking at the “number” being the problem and the “server” and “backend mechanics of war” being the issue.
What the heck?!?! why would amazon change wars to 40v40 and not let us even test it?!? I’m super confused. I am extremely scared for the future of New World at this moment. This is chaotic beyond belief.
I was so happy for 40v40 wars. MASSIVE F in the chat
I don’t think anyone had an issue not filling rosters… the main benefit from 40v40 vs 50v50 wars, is better stratagy coordination can be had. With 50 people you just have to spam capture points with players. With 40 players, being able to change points of attack would require a lot more stratagy. This would result in less giant clumps of people causing massive lag. This would make for a lot more 1v1 fights rather than mobs of people piling in taking random swings.
I thought the 40v40 idea was perfect and would result in a much more enjoyable war experience.
Fix your games performance. That’s the answer to most of your problems. Yet you don’t do it. Which leads us to believe you can’t and that it is unfixable. In that case the player community deserves the truth from you.
Anyone who thinks wars shouldn’t be 30v30 are actively hoarding the worlds supply of copium. The desync in wars will never go away. They will never be able to balance melee and range with out huge amounts of cc like the op grav we have now and the never ending slow of ice gauntlet. 50v50 will always be boring Zerg fest. The smaller you break the teams down more strategic the fights will have to become. Wars also need side objectives cause monkeying on points is lame as well.
I agree that only a handful of active companies can field 50 players. However, I disagree with your conclusion. I’m not sure how it is on your server but in my experience only a few companies slot more than 3-4 groups of their own members. It’s not because they can’t find more players, it’s that wars are too consequential to give a slot of lesser skilled players, even if those players are in your own company. Also, I don’t think smaller companies are locked out of wars. As long as smaller companies make friends and play ‘politics’ well, there usually isn’t a shortage of pvp players from other companies willing to help fight in wars.
I also disagree with your assertion that ‘more wars = more participation’. The current state of wars and faction alliances is that only the 50-100 of the very best pvp players of each faction get to fight in wars. Most wars use the same roster every time so increasing the amount of wars doesn’t actually allow for more people to participate.
We had a war last night and slotted entirely marauders on the roster. They helped us push the influence so it’s only fair they get a place. I feel like it’s a totally normal and acceptable thing to slot people outside your company and a totally unacceptable idea to try to limit it only to your company.
We could have shopped it out to better players, or played politics with it, or all sorts of other choices, but having 50 people online with the correct composition for a war is not a real choice that more than a handful of companies in the entire game is going to realistically have.
Even if you somehow managed to organize your company to have the correct builds and numbers of players in each, and then got 50 of them online concurrently, the moment the meta changed a bit you’d be back to the drawing board telling your people to go play the game a different way for the good of the company. That’s a nonstarter.
Being able to bring in people from another faction has issues, but it also has upsides since it allows for positive interfaction experiences where most of the rest of the game is designed to get us to hate each other. It balances the bad with a chance at some good.
There’s no compelling gameplay reason that we all have to be at each others throats because our flags have different colors.
This game needs more PvP gameplay options than Wars & OPR already. As many have already mentioned, Wars are only played by the select few. It has been this way for quite awhile now. If you are not very well geared, playing the right build/class, or if you are not in the clique or party with the popular dudes, you simply don’t get to play in Wars. 50v50, 40v40, it doesn’t matter. It’s the same people playing Wars. Naturally people who get to play wars now don’t want you to cut 20 players out of the roster because they don’t want to sit.
The game isn’t getting a lot of new players to stick around for long because new players don’t get a chance to participate in what was once the most exciting part of the game. Remember the first 3 weeks of launch, when everybody got to participate in wars and played, had tons of fun. It didn’t matter to min/max, you didn’t need to be in a clique, you were playing 2-3 wars a day and loved it. Those were the days, those were the days when New World had over 800k concurrent players and topped Steam charts.
Rather than debate about 50v50 or 40v40, you should be making wars more accessible, and more frequent. Perhaps have spontaneous wars over a piece of land outside of towns, where anybody can signup and winning faction gains bonuses to that specific piece of land. We need more PvP battlegrounds, rated 3v3 or 5v5 arenas, just overall more PvP and options to progress your character through PvP. Not one person in my company still play NW today, because the game turned into a PvE-grind fest. Bring the fights back, it was what made NW fun in the first place. Thank you.
Finally the dev listen to, ignore the minority that just want to have better performance. Fix infrastructure or get better computer if you want better performance.
Yeah that’s exactly what defending clans want… Your army to be a bunch of randoms with zero regard for level/gear/skill/spec… Did you ever think that maybe if people aren’t inviting you to wars it could be you?
