I have two songs that I would like to bring up to summarize the whole problem between the programmers/other folks currently in charge, and the players that are disgusted with them.
For the players we have Twisted Sister,
and then Amazon could respond to the offensive maladjusted programmers/folks in charge with a song by Ray Charles.
Doin this to the misguided folks that are obstructing the paying customers from getting the game they want, and are more than willing to pay for, would be a great thing, especially if those responsible could be publicly named, so that we could make sure to boycott any future games that these folks stick their bad-fingers into in the future.
My first thread where I started posting here for the NW game: First thread
All the way back then, I was talking about wiping the servers back on the 22nd of November 2021. I too have come to the conclusion that the current servers are irrelevant and useless in the scheme of NW having a potential future. The biggest problems (game code/game management wise) was not having a level playing field for all, not having an endgame, and not having any tailoring of the gaming experience for different kinds of players. Worst of all these things is, of course, not the game program itself, but the behind the scenes thinking, on the part of the folks that are in charge of running things over there at AGS, that tired to get folks to play in a way they just were not interested in (the whole fiasco with pvp flagged getting a global +30% bonus to ALL gathering activities while flagged for pvp), and then various nerfs, most notably the Elemental Enemies, that used to have nice loot, but then got turned off, and then nerfed to the point that it seems clearly punitive punishment thinking on the part of those running the game into the ground.
Current game version on all servers = beyond redemption.
I will not be playing (let alone paying for anything in this twisted version of the game), for much longer. However, the basic game program has great promise, and if the current staff, programmers, or management cannot be entrusted to give us what we want, then by all means get rid of those that want AGS’s game to fail, because they cannot make us play the game they envisioned, and don’t feel like giving us they game we want.
I agree with you in part. Absolutely we need new servers, with a totally clean slate, but these new servers need to have some fundamentally different choices in their code, and not just restarting of the game as it is.
My top choices would begin with options for what kind of tailored servers you want to create your next character on, and my main desires would be" Solo player friendly choice, where everything on such a server is achievable by a reasonably equipped and level appreciate character. Note that this would be an optional thing, and not selecting this filter would default to whatever the main servers are set to difficulty wise. This optional choice, to choose between getting to play all the way through the games storyline by yourself, would allow for those players that are of a mind to like this, could buy and play through the game, and would not have any impact on folks that wanted something more challenging, as they could simply not select this hypothetical option.
No PvP servers/content, in the (unlikely) case that AGS doesn’t completely get rid of the currently very flawed system of territory ownership and great wealth by the very few, to the total detriment of the servers economy, and by elimination of any and all bonuses for flagging pvp, this option would allow players to simply opt out of that entire nonsense, and get to create a character on a server where all the drama related to pvp simply doesn’t exist. On such a server, there would be no super rich folks, because no one could “own” any towns, and as a consequence, the games code could easily be changed to set all housing taxes and station fees to some reasonable limit, like a fixed and permanent 2%, so housing for instance, would be 2% at all times, and then reduced by 5% of that amount, per level of territorial standing beyond that needed for whatever house a player’s character may buy there.
An example: Take Windsward, for a character with WW standing of 10, and looking to get their first 5K house. Tax would be 2% of 5,000 gold, or 100 gold/week, but once the player’s character gets their territorial standing in WW up to 11, then the tax formula would be:
(House base cost times 2%) minus (territorial standing above 10 times 5%)
Thus;
5,000 times 2% = 100 gold/week
1 times 5% = 5 gold/week tax break. This would be worked into the current RNG of choices with territorial standing gains, such that this tax break wouldn’t be one of the selectable options, but rather an automatic perk, so the player can select something else and always get a housing tax reduction no matter what.
For the tier one house in the example above, the potential taxes would be reduced by 5 gold/week, until no taxes would be due, and that tax free status would happen 20 levels of territorial standing above that needed for a given house. The same system would work for any of the higher tier housing, as well, to if our erstwhile adventurer keeps hanging around in WW, and got their territorial standing up high enough, they could eventually afford even the 20K house, and get it tax free.
30th level territorial standing would be enough to buy the 20K home, but you would then be paying the base taxes (20,000 times 2% = 400 gold/week), while a 15K home would be (15,000 times 2% = 300 gold/week, minus 50%, or 150 gold/week), and in the case of a 10K house, the housing tax would be (10,000 times 2% = 200 gold week minus 75%, or 50 gold/week)
The third thing I personally would want, I think everyone would want to at least have the option to do, and that is the infinite progression game, as opposed to simply dead end game at 60th level that we have now.
I’ll be going over that in detail, in the link I provided upthread.
If they have ever given a thought about implement PvE Only Servers, they should start by implementing PvP Only Servers.
My guess is with PvP Only Servers the Biggest Part of PvPers will move to them, giving more freedom to PvEers that can do their thing on the “normal Servers” including having an occasional War thats not that “Tryhard” as compared with a whole lot of PvP Players in the Mix, but yes PvE Only Servers should also be implemented, eventually.
(I am a PvP Player and I know what I would do given said change, as I want to have equal competition I would move to PvP Only instantly. Its not fun to me going around busting People of “lower Skill” or “Level” up. I want the Challange. Also I’m not part of a Dominating Company and get my Ass smacked a lot of times, thats part of the experience.)
In the current state of the game, giving Bonuses to beeing PvP Flagged are a must have, sadly. Its one of the only incentives for many people to actually Flag, given that there are so many domineering Players, as there is a downside to not flagging.
Whats currently missing in the game is respect for the opposite Player. Having a Bout with someone is Fun, killing someone over and over is NOT and it should not be, for any party involved.
The bugs the gameplay the lack of content…Its just too much.
I agree with a shutdown of the game and wipe now. Go back to the drawing board and rethink things. Hire the 50 people you have ads up for and get to work and dont rush a product.
I say this as someone at 620 GS 1300 hours in game…nearly gold capped best loot in game. Id give it all away at a chance for a better playing New world with content.
For the people focusing on the usage of the word “we”, you need to get a grip on the English language as “we” is often used by a person to refer to themselves by using it as the subject of a verb to mean “you”.
Here’s an example “we don’t want to be late, do we”
I agree with you wholeheartedly on that point. I think one of the things that all the players, programmers, and managers alike need to realize, is that the concept of “One Game to Rule them all” just won’t work, and that a whole lot of the current problems are trying to please a diverse group of players, all in the same game.
I disagree with you on this point, for a number of reasons.
First and foremost, just what exactly is it that you envision for a PvP only server?
As a mom-pvp player, I have never played pvp content, and I think there are at least two very different concepts out there, and they would be mutually exclusive, and keep in mind, I’m thinking in terms of, start a brand new, 1st level character type of server thing here, if you are talking about keeping your existing characters, then that is a whole different thing. Anyway, the two mutually exclusive types of potential PvP servers I can see would be, PvP no longer becomes a flag, but rather the only way to play the game, or alternatively a server where both PvP and non pvp activities take place, which is like what we currently have.
A couple things here, from your quoted portions, I take it that you are wanting to have your existing character, and just go to a different set of servers, where things are optimized for pvp play? Also, the normal servers are the whole reason that I would be willing to buy a non-pvp version of new world in the first place, because I don’t want any impact of my gaming pleasures being lessened by rich pvp groups controlling the servers market, and ruining my fun with exorbitant taxes and fees, and keep in mind, I’m NOT talking about keeping my current character, but making a new one completely uncontaminated by the mess that is the current sad state of affairs. So you and I are talking about two very different things. I’m wanting to pay for the privilage of starting over, from scratch, on a server that doesn’t give some folks an advantage over others, but you seem to want to be able to get a new server for your existing character to go and play on?
From reading the above, I cannot say anything constructive, as I just don’t understand where you were going with that. Honestly confused here.
I just now figured something out, that had eluded me up to now.
Whenever I saw such statements before, I always understood them to be saying an outrageous lie, where my character doesn’t deserve a level playing field because blah blah blah.
But now I think I see the context in which you are saying that, for the first time. If I am still not correctly getting what you are thinking, please let me know. What I think you are saying is that, with the current system of tax revenue given to the top pvp outfits, making them “rich beyond the dreams of avarice”, all other pvp players are at a distinct disadvantage to the ‘Richie Rich’ folks?
In that context, I could see your point of view. That being said, now I’ll try to get you to see my point of view. Both the ‘Richie Rich’ folks & the other pvp folks are all getting an unfair, and undeserved, advantage over all the non-pvp folks playing the game, and we want that to stop.
If I am now seeing, for the first time, hopefully correctly, the point of view of pvp folks that are struggling an uphill battle against the entrenched pvp folks, I may have a thought or two to help that out in the short term, but I really have never given the pvp side of the house a second thought, so the ideas that I have might not even make a difference.
This game will go free-to-play well before a wipe comes along.
If they did wipe it, do you think the current management team/developers could pull it off, even if given another year? I don’t. I don’t management has a good core idea for MMOs and I don’t think the developers are capable of writing anything but buggy code.
With its reputation among gamers F2P wouldn’t work. Well, it might look like it for a week or two as people might jump in ironically but people won’t think “omg it’s free I’ve been waiting to try this”. There’s been far too much burn in such a short time for it not to have been mainstream conversation for weeks.
if the gear is not usefull its trash gear… white, grey, purple, blue, legendary. If you have no use for it, it gets blown up for repair parts. yeah im probably misunderstanding
Can you imagine all these people standing in town with 0 in their repair parts and all their top BIS gear broken… No we need the no perk gear just as much as we need legendary
