When the Brimstone update finally hits live AGS should open up new servers only available for character creation, no transfers.
Alright some context, I play on NAE with two level 60 600+ GS characters and over 1,500 hours in game.
The Brimstone update looks awesome, some great changes and the greatsword & new territory look to be great endgame additions. With these changes, the update to the leveling experience and MSQ, I think we’ll have an influx of players at live. That in itself shouldn’t be a controversial opinion, we saw it with medleyfaire and the brimstone update is far more anticipated having been announced months ago.
I think fresh unclaimed servers would be a massive success given the changes I’ve listed already as well as the changes to war/territory ownership we are expecting. Many players left the game because of bugs, gold duping, lack of war availability, expertise grind, and the difficulty of getting war ready gear. All of that has or will be addressed with this next update and I know myself and many others would delete a full level 60 to play through the game again on an unclaimed server.
Now if AGS does choose to do this I think the best path forward is to open two servers in each region with others ready in case the first two fill. It’s obviously very important that these new servers do not accept transfers to avoid a flood of gold and 60s entering the server. 4 weeks post update they could evaluate if these new servers need merges and 3 months down the road they could look at opening to transfers.
To me, this is the best of both worlds. The PvP focused players get to keep all of their gear and continue the fight on mature servers. New players, returning players, players who want the fresh server feeling and to level again with all of the updates will have the opportunity to do so without the remnants of past issues.
The most fun I had playing this game was the beginning stage. Leveling, claiming territory, sub 60 wars, no one knew what they were doing yet. I think new and returning players should have that experience as well.
If you are having trouble wrapping your head around the rationalization, try actually reading the post where OP explains the rationalization. No one is going to force you to abandon your 625 Voidbent and play on a new server. Those that want to, can.
I 100% support. The influx of players alone is going to make current servers a mess. Someone nominate this man for president!
I did read in a recent dev Q&A that they plan on opening a few new servers in October. They have no plans on merging more of the current servers.
The question that drives people’s mind will be “Is it a server that can’t be transferred to?”. If it is that, it may pick up people’s interest (i.e. people who are discouraged to play catch-up to current 625 players) again.
I have a character with multiple 625 pvp sets. I will still use that character. It can also be true that I can have fun leveling a character on a fresh server because I enjoyed the launch of the game despite the issues. This doesn’t have to be a this or that problem it can just be both.
I understand the fun of starting over but that still doesn’t explain locking the servers. If I decide to start a toon on a useast server the amount of level 60’s on the server have no bearing or impact on my gameplay…
The race of grinding to 100K gold to claim a territory, wars with all sub 60s, lack of players with millions of gold making items more accessible for newer players would all be reasons to lock it to transfers. I found all of that fun, it’s a video game it can just be fun. And it would take literally nothing away from the established servers.
I can honestly say I do not know if you are trolling or just a pure PvE player. One that hasn’t enjoyed running around flagged and instead runs around in that 625 void mentioned above.
The game, despite recent updates, is very heavily PvP. A major factor in PvP, especially end game, is gear. I have had friends who returned to the game after taking a break for a few months feel way too behind to bothering trying to catch up. They were war ready when they left.
Imagine how a new player must feel, especially one who doesn’t have anyone to help them out/bank roll them. You can only get so far with what drops from the world. You need to craft or buy gear to keep up with the competition. That takes time and if you want players, especially new ones, to make that time investment. They need to think they have a chance of actually using it in wars, which is the end-game for PvP.
That won’t happen if current end-game players can just swap and run new servers from the start.
These new servers don’t need to be permanently locked either. Just allow for a couple months (provided the server has a healthy population of say 6-800+). Ones that don’t get there on new players alone can be shut down OR opened up for transfer to let the currently overloaded servers some options.
We have quite a few new and returning players in our company and I do know how they must feel. Which is why I’m constantly running them through reg dungeons and lower level muts.
I can actually imagine that without our help and guidance the experience would be worse.
We even slot people in war that aren’t 625 yet just so they can get some experience.
I guess from my perspective with my server and company being pretty welcoming it just didn’t make sense. But I understand not all servers and companies are like that.
This mans really confused on why locking a fresh server.
Lmao.
I can name 100 reasons why. I cant think of a single reason as why you wouldnt. Even now entire companies transfer to roll over servers. I dont see how you can play the game and not see all the problems associated with allowing transfers to a brand new server with no territory or economy.
Tell me specifically how it would affect your gameplay experience from levels 1 - 60… Nobody has actually explained that. Just a bunch of vague responses about economy and issues and fresh feelings…
More than 90% from peak left the game because of BUGS EXPLOITS GOLD DUPS BOTS AND WW/EF earning 2mil per few days. Now imagine getting a start over with lesser bugs more balance game?
You are missing the point entirely my guy. Not sure how much more people can try spelling it out for you.
Being able to find groups of similar levels to run content, ex. not have to be carried through Amrine by 60’s. Also to not immediately go back to spending all your cash on Town boards to level up to catch up to said 60’s to have people to play with. Be able to run around flagged while leveling and not have said 60’s one shot you. Go fight over a fort and be able to effective wHile leveling. Opportunity for wars from day one (HUGE one IMO). More incentive to level crafting as you could one of the few with the ability for awhile.
Just so much pressure for a new player when joining one of these few remaining servers. What the Pope here is preaching saves the game and should honestly be on a cycle, every 3-4 months they open a fresh transfer locked server or two and the previous one becomes unlocked.
If you can’t see the benefits and no cons to this idk. Guess even the Pope here doesn’t have the pull to perform miracles that cure the blind.
