That’s exactly the idea behind having some sort of group finder! right now, with the chat, it it’s just discouraging if you are not lucky playing on a server with a picture book community. The problem: people read dungeon finder and stop thinking, just reacting to irrational fears, people want Amazon to implement some railroad dungeon finder as in WOW.
That’s not the idea at all. The idea is a group finder to replace the unsocial chat-spamming with a system that encourages players to actually communicate, by giving it a real in world setting and not just an ui feature.
Going into the tavern, choosing the right table, where you can be sure to find people, who actually want to visit the same content, you want, would spare us the unsocial part of what happens right now in the chat and strengthen the social part. (i see the constant abbreviation spamming in the chat, and it is not a good system, even on servers where it works!)
Keep in mind that New World have more content coming down the pipeline and like I said - the playerbase is currently in an upgoing trend. The game is not going to die anytime soon. With more content, more players will follow. You are preparing for the end and the game hasnt even been out for a month.
Maybe in the future when the playerbase starts taking a nosedive a dungeon finder solution should be considered but not now. Insinuating impending doom like many of you pro-dungeon finder guys do when making the argument that it’s “shortsighted” is just hyperbole because you have no other reason to ask for it.
However, would they ever implement a dungeon finder I hope they do not implement the same type of solution as WoW (like OP in this thread is suggesting) and definitively not cross-server. A system that I would be okay with would not act fully automated but rather work like the notice board in Diablo or Path of Exile. You walk up and interact with it and on it you could see what groups/players are looking for groups for the same dungeon.
It makes it easier but does not completely eliminate the social aspect like the auto-pilot WoW dungeon finder did.
AKA exactly what i described before! (Well, my idea would even more accommodate for roleplay and be more immersive) And i don’t think it should only be implemented after the game is in trouble. People have trouble finding groups already, no need to listen to the people saying there is no problem, just because they alone don’t have the trouble.
There are not few people telling about their displeasure about the chat-spamming, there are even more who feel the same, but don’t post about it.
Dungeon Finder system is bad for this game, for WOW a anti social game what it has become it is fine but not for New World. Also the thing is even if the player base goes down what is happening atm, a Dungeon Finder system won’t help at all to bring players back or keep the current players. The focus atm should be fixing the bugged endgame systems and adding new content as fast as possible, that way those that left will come back and see stuff is fixed plus new content and new players will join more and more.
You can’t play alts on the same server:
I see that point, but this game has no classes like WOW. It is more like FFXIV you can do all on 1 character,
Low/Mid level areas population decrease (consequence of 1 and 2)
Well point 1 is a given, again happens in each MMO.
Point 2, population has nothing to do with alts as the same player can play 1 char at a given time.
Combined those 2 points: This game is designed to be played on 1 character, same concept as FFXIV and going back to lower areas to farm stuff and do other activities is designed within the game you just need to make used of it.
Difficulty to find people to play lower level dungeons:
Could depend per server, on my server a lot players do low and high dungeons even lvl 40+ players farm low lvl dungeons all the time on my server. If that is a issue on the OP’s server maybe joining a Guild-faction would help as in all other MMO’s, that works most of the time.
Conclusion:
Do we need Dungeon Finder to make it easier to access content, could be but the points that the OP has listed have nothing to do with maybe having a dungeon finder system (Cross-server/worlds).
What would help is to merge servers to have a bigger players-base per server.
Well as it might appear not really “Social” you miss the point here.
On a general chat everyone see it, and everyone can talk to everyone with a simple clic/wisp.
What does it bring ? Well it bring the fact that a player can see a “LFG or LFM” for something that he wasn’t supposed to go for or to do.
And this is social.
If you bring a dungeon finder you just kill every social aspect of an mmo because now people will just do “what they want” and wont have any possibility to do something “they didnt planned”.
Therefore “writing LFG” in a chat isn’t particullary a social behavior.
But the fact that you can find something that you didn’t planned for IS social.
Good luck to do something you didn’t planned for with a “dungeon finder”…
Moreover, if you don’t find people in chat where everyone in your server can read, do you really expect to find people waiting in a tavern doing nothing but waiting for other people to show up to do a dungeon?
If there is no big community on your server, make one. Talk to people, help people out if you can, organize stuff inside and outside game. Or wait for transfer and go to a higher pop.
This reply is absolutely perfect. 10/10 picture of my chat constantly. Chat spam is overwhelming to me, Im not that old but the modern scrolling chat too fast to read is very jarring to me and it just means I mute everything I can. Thats an antisocial tactic because of trolls but also the redundant repeat messages by the same people looking for a group. The classic wow style of shout over your head looking for body might be well regarded in memories of people but its so anti personal. Its not a social benefit at all. A group POSTING section would be more helpful than a scrolling chat.
A message board where you can list your own group and fill your own group like the modern LFG wow has rather than an automatic pairing system if people are not ok with the radical auto LFG system. Take the 50v50 sign up UI and make it a 5 man screen where you open a UI or go to the dungeon itself and then see these boards where people are forming groups. The argument other people are making that when I am a lvl 10 seeing messages forming for a lvl 60 dungeon clearly out of my reach now is not a social benefit. Its clutter.
People that don’t want a dungeon finder:
“This is social interaction”
Me: Being a market shouter “Fish for 2$ today” or being a recruitment chat “LF Tank Dynasty” is not social interaction. Me writing them “I’m heal LVL 60” is also questionable social interaction.
This has nothing todo with social interaction in an mmorpg. This is just forcing me to have recruitment and global chat active all the time. Which often enough leads to missing stuff in my fraction and company chat, where real social interaction might happen.
short answer yes. Long answer I love running dungeons and will most likely do any dungeon with you (LVL 60 heal with high enough GS to run even lvl 60 dungeons), but recruitment and global chat are so bombarded with messages that I keep them muted.
With a one click dungeon finder, I would help lower level players way more often. Best would be that they add a mentor like system, where I should get gold or something.

Just like there are people who think LFG is more than enough but dont come to the forums to tell you about it.
Generally the people who want to complain about something are the people who hang out here on the forums. The people who enjoy the game have no reason to come here. At least we agree on what type of Dungeon finder would be best if they did decide to put one in.
Most vocal people on forums (specially reddit) are the ones who want no improvements on the game because “this is not wow” and consider every suggestion as a click-to-win, even when it concerns QoL changes. I wonder how many people quit the game even before Amrine because of how terrible the current state of the game is to form dungeon groups, specially low/mid level.

I highly doubt that is true. Just by glancing over the forum posts now there are a lot of suggestions taken straight from World of Warcraft (and similar MMOs). Mounts, Dungeon Finder, Minimap, Damage meter etc. And these are posts that pop up on a daily basis. I am not saying that World of Warcraft is all bad. There are surely things that NW could adopt, no need to reinvent the wheel but the WoW things that get suggested on a daily basis are mostly trivial additions that would not help the game in its current state. Some of them also seem to come from that some players are so used to mechanic X from WoW that they need it here too because they are out of their comfort zone.
A very common issue with these posts is also that most of them are not very detailed. Most mount-posts can be summed up with “I want mounts” and that’s it. How would they function? Any limitations? Without details the reader needs to make assumptions about what OP means and that usually means comparing it to one of the most popular MMO’s out there that also use mounts. WoW-style mounts wouldnt work in this game because it’s clearly been designed not ot have them. It’s even included in the games lore. That’s not what this thread is about though but you get what I mean.
The vast majority of people who come here or to reddit are there to complain about something. The people who are happy with the game are busy playing the game for the most part. They have no reason to come here other than to leave actual constructive feedback which seems to be very rare.
The developers can take these suggestions into consideration but right now there are huge and gamebreaking issues that they must deal with in pretty much every aspect of the game. They have issues transferring one character from one server to the next and now people want them to setup an automated system to match players cross-server together on-the-fly. It’s just not doable at this time.
Resort to LFG for now. It’s not hard unless you are on one of the few low-pop servers out there.
I disagree to some extent; I think we can definitely live without an automated group finder (Ie. WoW Dungeon Finder) but a Looking for Group System clone would streamline group creation while allowing leads to manage communication.
Forming groups is immensely painful going the legacy route and really does nothing other than make the group leader (and likely the one burning an orb) spend even more time spamming for it with little to no help inbetween.
The social interaction would be unchanged other than I as a lead won’t have to spam recruitment / area / or even global if it’s early enough in the morning. All the interesting social interaction either happens in the group chat or nothing at all as others (including myself) just want to burn the content.
