Im not here to speculate about development time of a feature. 1 day, 1 week, or whatever it doesnt matter. Its wasted effort.

Of course not every feature. If they want to add new dungeons, add events, etc, that doesnt hurt the player experience. But a patch that could have a significant impact on game play i would expect some transparency.

In one of their latest videos, they specifically talked about nerfing light armor. Thats a huge problem, and this is the transparency they need to provide. Otherwise one of two things happens:

  1. They rollback changes and it delays the patch significantly longer.

  2. They continue with the changes, and more people leave.

And in regards to player numbers. You can look at steamcharts. Games such as POE and FF have a much better retention rate (and more players now).

I dont see how you can continue to defend them marketing the game, when it can hardly retain 10% of the player base since brimstone. They need to get PvP into a solid state, add end game for PvE thats different than running the same mutation 25 times in a week, and add some QOL features. Then absolutely id agree with marketing the game. But as is, its going to be a repeat of brimstone.

rolling back changes makes an update come faster if anything lol. less things in a major patch means less work

I dont think you understand how player numbers even work, steam charts shows concurrent player numbers only. New world has at least 300k active players. dead game! Even if we go ahead and use your misleading math then new world has almost 20% of the population from brimstone when there hasnt been any big content drops in 3 months :joy: thats amazing retention

Most of the issues are endgame loop issues. So as a new player, you won’t notice them. Feel free to ignore most of these doom threads and enjoy the game. The game is beautiful and your first playthrough will likely be very enjoyable.

Once you get into endgame however, meaning you’ve hit max level, gotten your gearscore to 600, and begin your journey to BiS 625… you’ll notice some endgame loop issues. Mostly:

-You need to grind a lot of dungeon mutations to get umbral shards, they’re used to upgrade your gear to 625. As you grind dungeons, you’ll find that the loot sucks from dungeons, so you’re essentially just mutation grinding for shards mostly.

If you’re a PvP player, you’ll be forced to grind dungeons for umbral shards if you want to gear up multiple sets of armors & weapons. This is because the game is very stingy about giving umbral shards via PvP.

-There are no raids in the game yet, and no “endgame legendary quests” that get you 625 BiS gear. If you’re a PvE player, you’ll find that your options are limited to grinding dungeon mutations (with bad rewards), doing world tours/chest runs (with rng rewards), and gathering/crafting. Due to a lack of cross-server queues, it can be difficult to put a group together for dungeons due to the way mutation systems work. So expect to wait a long time looking for a tank or healer.

-If you’re a PvP player, your PvP options are the 3v3 arena, Outpost Rush (OPR), and Wars.

The 3v3 arena is badly balanced, as there’s no rated/ranked arena, no MMR, no matchmaking, no cross-server play. So you’re likely solo queuing into premades with a healer, which they become frustrating to play against unless you’re also queuing with a healer. Oh and while your gearscore gets artificially bumped to 600 in the arena, gear is not equalized. People with 625 BiS gear and know how to press buttons will stomp you.

OPR is equally as unbalanced, there’s no matchmaking so the game could stack multiple premades on one team while you get spawn camped with a bunch of random solo queuers. You would also understand the meaning of bowpr, as OPR could often turn into a ranged dex crapfest full of bows & muskets sniping you from render range that you can barely see. You could still have some good games in opr however, but they’re rare.

50v50 Wars is the current endgame for PvP. As a new player, your options are limited. You can try getting into a company that likely will get farmed in wars, because there’s no way you’ll get into established companies holding the big territories. They’ll pretend to enjoy wars until they get farmed 5x in a row then find it difficult to get members willing to push for more territory. Hours of pve influence push just to get farmed for 30 mins isn’t fun at all. It’s def not what pvp players had in mind for endgame pvp content. It won’t be long before the company you join stops pushing for wars, as it won’t have enough active members left to even try, and likely will disband.

If you somehow get yourself into the war scene, you’ll find that it’s full of drama & politics. Plus there’s a serious lack of competitive wars being played right now, most are just farm wars or companies dodging each other. Which means PvP endgame currently is extremely boring.

-BiS gear, best in slot gear is from crafting. You essentially gamble your money away trying to get BiS gear. Some have success but most end up going broke. They either quit the game or turn to RMT to swipe for more chances. BiS gear are hard to craft, and are extremely expensive to purchase off the market. So unless you’re willing to swipe, you’ll be waiting a long time to try and catch up to established War players with BiS gear. I will be surprised if any new players even reach BiS in the current game without swiping.

-PvP weapon balancing has been a hot issue since probably 6 months ago, maybe longer. AGS acknowledged these issues 4+ months ago, and to this day, we still have not gotten the promised PvP balancing. A series of combat exploits plagued the game over the december holiday break, a lot of people have given up on the game since then.

-The 2023 roadmap they announced was disappointing. There was zero pvp content mentioned, 1 raid boss they’re working on which isn’t enough to satisfy the pve crowd, and more dungeons that will likely continue to give bad rewards. While they’ll be adding some good system upgrades, such as cross-server tech and gearsets, the game really needs more content like yesterday.

Bottom line, the game lacks good endgame loop for both PvP & PvE. There’s not enough PvP options, and the PvE content lacks good rewards since BiS gear is gated behind a terrible crating system. Too much PvE is forced on PvP players who just want to pvp all day and be rewarded. Rewards as a whole just really sucks in this game atm both in PvE & PvP.

They’ve rolled back multiple changes from PTR feedback, which I really appreciate. I’m saying game breaking changes they should be more transparent about - so they don’t go through the development hassle in the first place. It will allow them to put desirable content out faster. And reverting work is pure wrong on going out faster. Just because you revert a change, doesn’t mean you don’t need to to requalify everything.

Those games have retained a very similar number of players for at least the past six months. NW has not.

I have yet to see how they plan on getting PvP in a solid state. Please enlighten me. Because what has been announced (essentially nothing), is the complete opposite.

Storage sets, raids, end game content, etc, will hopefully be great. And if they are great, I think then it’s totally reasonable to start marketing the game. But making huge changes without transparency (in particular game breaking changes such), in a game with a declining player base is insane.

Poor communication with the community.

Smallscale & Open-World PvP is still not rewarding; really bad desync (getting close to Feb 2022 levels); bugs as always, everywhere; perk stagnation & diversification; poor combat direction (homing and hitscan still exist, 0 telegraphing for some forms of CC) and insufficient/sparse balancing.

New players acquisition/retention

New players / 60s can’t really participate in wars, they need to fix this for retention. Maybe practice wars with randoms, maybe bounty wars events that companies can only do once… they need something

Wars IS the end game PVP content, people should be able to have at least 3 wars a week at the minimum

Pushing territories is tedious man, at the same time, if it is too easy maybe it would be bad, not a simple decision to make I feel.

  • Stop making changes based on OPR, again the end game PVP content IS WAR, OPR has its own problem but should not dictacte end game PVP

I would say the balancing issue and bias melee love in dungos was rough for a lot of people. Forced to only used melee due to dmg modifiers and a huge lack of pvp content.

People who expect nw to be perfect with 20 years of content built in at release think they didn’t get their $40 worth after playing thousands of hours and expect free content every month and devs to tell them how they appreciate their feedback.

The game was released when it was by far not finished. This means that AGS had to spend thousands of hours patching it just to fix the hundreds of bugs of all kinds that were ruining players’ lives. Precious time that should have been used for its development…

There are many issues in the game currently but they are slowly being worked on, out of all the issues the main one is the limited player base. With more players, AGS would generate more income and increase development resources, which would increase content/bug fixes. More players would also add more competition/variety for PVP and PVE.

The game was released roughly two years too early, many of the standard features you expect in a modern MMO were simply nonexistent at launch and we are only now starting to get them which meant the game lost a lot of its player base very quickly.

I think the main issues why so many of the player base quit the game is due to:

  • Too much RNG for every task/activity/ reward.

  • Mutations being a fake difficulty, rather than adding any real mechanics, it was just dmg output and input scaled depending on gear score.

  • No endgame PVE, no meaningful repeatable daily quests, nothing to really work towards or compete against.

  • No competitive PVE or PVP game modes. (leaderboards are a first step towards it but it’s by no way perfect or finished yet)

  • Territory ownership caused nothing but server politics, drama and toxicity, companies should never have been able to own territory, these things caused a lot of players to quit.

  • Wars are badly designed and not worth doing, which is why less than 1% of the player base wants to do them, also instead of being faction v faction it’s often faction + faction v faction.

  • Gold generation of towns during most of the games life created huge inflation which we are still a long way away from recovering from.

  • OPR, Arena and wars should have been cross-server, ranked and joinable at any time of the day or night via a queueable instance.

  • Armor types and weapons are not balanced correctly.

  • Server transfers destroyed a lot of servers because big companies would transfer to servers which had a lower level of skill than the one they were on so. This caused economies to get out of control, companies to fall apart and players to quit, then those big companies moved onto the next server.

  • Invasions, are not fun, if you are melee then you have nothing to do for most of it and the rewards are terrible so people don’t want to do them. This causes factions/companies to beg in chat every night for people to sign up for them.

  • Tanking and healing are pretty boring and abilities are very limited.

  • No seasonal PVP gear from the faction vendors.

  • Dungeons are pretty badly designed for range weapons, also elemental weapons do reduce damage to mobs in them for the most part.

  • Only one type of healing weapon and the Life staff does not have a DPS tree to choose. Even the sword and shield can be used as either dps or tank.

  • Too many perks in the game for armor/weapons. Three-quarters of them are either completely worthless, useless or don’t work properly.

  • No solo PVE content

Those are the main issues that caused players to quit the game, that being said if you are playing with friends then the game is incredibly fun still and you can easily get 1000+ hours from the game which is well worth the money to buy the game. Many of the issues listed above are being worked on by the dev team. Be patient with the game and think of it as unfinished, but the potential of what the game will be in two years when it’s “complete” is fantastic.

There is still plenty of content in the game to enjoy and it’s only getting better and better as time goes by. This year has a lot of nice features coming to the game, which players are looking forward to.
