So i started as a full healer then before my server transfer, my old server was full of everyone with life staff as a 2nd weapon so they could heal themselves. Made a full healer pointless so started learning hachet and went full heavy.
switched server and now full healers are in high demand so switching back again, with my hatchet as a defense weapon in case i get mobbed and none of the group come help.
Question is - what armour should i be using. I would have said full light, but i get downed so easily in places like depths (im lvl 48). Switched to med and same happens. Switched to heavy and its better but feels wrong.
What do other full healers wear and what weapons work well for when you are out solo pve?
(not tried pvp yet, wanna join a good company on my server first)
About 3 days ago my friends & I have noticed we are all taking a bit more damage? We are in the 40-50 range atm. Even from mobs that are lower level then us. I am usually full healer As I have a set group of friends I normally play with. (dps when applicable)
I am wearing heavy & also feel strange about it. Because in other games I’m always in light or cloth armor. (I believe armor will be adjusted in the future) For a side I use Ice gauntlet. (which can be glitchy right now) & it is mana heavy. (not a huge issue) I see lots of people playing with hatchet. I almost went rapier at first because its fun.
But I decided to stay ranged. Healing staff does put out a decent amount of damage itself it seems I tend to use it a lot when solo & as well as the gauntlet the aoe when it works is pretty great for larger pulls. I think off hand weapon should be your preferred play style where we are being set heals. Mele makes me worry as close contact usually goes hand & hand with stuns & its hard to heal when I cant move or cast ya know lol I also haven’t dabbled in pvp yet. me some Pvp.
Is not currently working in game. The benefits of heavy would still outweigh that healing bonus, especially since even the damage bonus works off base and not with modifiers.
I have my issues with heavy vs light myself as an ice gauntlet user. I spent over a week grinding level 53 heavy and light faction gear. Heavy gear I was being dealt 1/2 to 1/3 the damage I usually was, HOWEVER, I was getting hit 3x more than I was before because of the poor dodge. I also noticed I was doing 300-400 less damage. Spent a day in heavy before swapping back to light, and honestly much rather stick with light for my play style.
As far I’m aware they nerfed healing by 20% (since open beta as far I know).
They also added healing bonus for light armor (20%) and for medium armor (10%), but these bonuses aren’t working.
So there is no incentive to heal in light or medium armor, because as a healer you’ll most likely be targeted first in group pvp / Outpost / Wars, so you want to be as tanky as possible.
I use medium with full physical resist and 100 CON. I was at 150 before. I have over 300 FOC. I do die if I get stun locked for 3 seconds but overall I feel pretty safe doing SM elites, genesis, OPR and all that. I am not planning on going heavy but it should be even safer. I didn’t even attempt light.
Today under patch 1.05 there is only ONE reason to wear medium or light armor over heavy armor, IF you personally like to dodge around constantly to avoid damage and conflict. IF you do not dodge constantly, then there is no reason to wear anything other than Heavy Armor.
With regards to “Easy Places”, the Depths is not an easy place. There are several mechanics and difficult bosses that can make even over leveled groups cringe. So do not judge what is “easy” by the Depths alone.
As to gems, personal choice. Most people use Onyx for physical damage reduction especially now that Resilience has been fixed. I used Malachite, because I was fighting a lot of Fire/Ice users, but sometimes think Onyx would be better (still not sure they actually work as tooltip suggests). Also at level 48 there is ZERO reason to spend the money to gem your armor as you will outlevel what you have very quickly.
For solo PVE you have several good choices, Sword/Shield, Hatchet, Great Axe, Spear, Fire Staff etc… The only ones I would not consider are Musket & Bow as aiming under duress can be tricky. Rapier is a difficult weapon to use and master, but I have seen some excellent players far beyond my skill level running a Raiper/LifeStaff to great effect. Personally I run Great Axe & toying with Sword and Shield (dps focused).
As to PVP… not all PvP is the same. Out Post Rush (at 60) is different than Wars and Open World is different than both.
