What do you prefer?

I prefer full server of people because of OPR, Arenas and Dungeons. If those were cross-server then it doesn’t really matter. The best option ofc is one huge ESO style mega-server (one for EU, one for NA etc). Vanilla WoW server style in 2022 was’t really good decision imo.

I don’t mind a short queue for a lively server. My only issue with large population in this game is the competition over harvesting nodes. Some people become quite unpleasant over it and it can become a chore if every time you need iron or starmetal it has to feel like an existential struggle .

If you’re flagged it should feel like that, but truth is most people in this game don’t flag just to chop trees etc.

The less populated/queue question is only a symptom of two big underlying issues. If OPR/dungeons were cross server and the entire territory control mechanics were redesigned (so guild cant destroy servers, there is too much power in the hands of the few that basically completely change the landscape of a server).

Fix these and server merges would be a much lesser topic. I prefer smaller servers but without cross server OPR I have to join bigger (and usually less friendly) servers to get my OPR fix.

Empty servers are not fun and that’s not an MMORPG.

we need a mega server per region , If technically cant handle so many players (thats clear) do a proper chanels like many other MMOs because that 2k population servers is not worth, is proved since day one.
Imagine for one second that u finally start to do a serius revamp of your game mechanics, suchs wars to have more sense , perks start to have really balance (not this update because u didnt change at all. 7,5 vigor to 10% etc is ridiculous). Start to add PvX content that is what people start to play new world and game start to have 50k-100k players… u will lose all players day one cause your servers handle 2k players and have insane amount of accounts linked to each server. If a good amount of people return u will be done another time

I definetly am more of a leg person over the upper part.

at start i choose an empty server because i didnt want to wait in queue i was in Zu-vendis

empty server is good for lwling to 60 because there are more nodes for to lwl up gathering skills.
and while lwling up to 60 you dont really need too much ppl in server it doesnt really effect anything

but after reaching lwl 60 its another story… after reaching 60 we need trophy mats high lwl expeditions, boss farming groups, mutations, wars, opr…
lets be honest after reaching lwl 60 we dont have anything we can do as solo player. all the events are group activity.

long story short Server needs to be crowded for lwl 60 players to enjoy the game, find what they need in market. etc

gonna guess people who want full server with full ques only opr and dungeon.

if you do any sort of farming full servers are miserable.

server peaks with around 800-1200 people feels perfect for NW in its current state.

when servers fall below 300 i found it very difficult to fill invasions and even wars sometimes.

The thing that I don’t get about this merge is: With the new zone and weapon coming, I think everyone (even more the devs) hopes to have a lot of people coming back, but for instance, they merged the whole SA server in a single server, so if a considerable amount of people comes back to the game I’m supposed to face huge queues in a server that was already healthily populated for what purpose?

Full servers!

  • Finds players more easily for dungeons
  • brings back opr
  • more companys rushing for wars
  • new playerbase
  • more ressources

I think the social dynamics of community based gaming is more complex than this simplistic view.

To directly answer your question: “I would prefer neither option. Thank you.” They are both extreme options that are not palatable to me.

Further, I have no desire to see the towns full of bots. I want to play the game knowing it has some checks and balances, in addition to not feeling screwed over by the economics in this game and the decision makers at your studio.

I get the impression minimal analysis was conducted prior to merging servers this time around. First of all, the community was caught off guard by the sudden reverse in AGS policy regarding merging servers again. Secondly, the minimum notice provided to the community gives the impression this was an internal political decision rather than one reflecting the long term health of the game.

This is my third merger and the third time our company lost territory due to mergers. I wouldn’t call it a pleasurable gaming experience, but rather the opposite. Now I’m on a server dominated by at least one shell company and the outcome of wars is negotiated in advance.

With this unexpected merger, our company decided we will no longer carry a company flag due to the corrupt nature of wars, town ownership, and game economics. We appear as independent players now.

In closing, I don’t care if the server has full towns or not if my game experience continues on like this.

I, and most of my friends, prefer welll-populated worlds and no queue times. In 2022, this is a possibility.

I think queues should be avoided at all costs. Server queues hurt the launch of the game the most.

Having groups of friends fragmented between servers is another thing that hurt the game badly at launch.

A lot of people never saw most of the game’s content because of these two technical issues.

The type of server structure that New World follows is still threatening to cause both of these issues again with no real solution in sight (IE: we have to choose between queue times or empty worlds). I think the technology is horribly dated here. Some type of mega-server experience is what is needed, imo. Allow how ever many players you need per instance for performance and balance reasons, but allow players to freely transition between server instances.

I also know that my guild is wanting to give the game another shot, but will not sit through queues. Not only that, but of our original group of about 25, only maybe 10 of them want to come back to the game in its current state. We have more of our larger community who are on other servers, but there’s no way any of us are paying for server transfers. We need a way to quickly and cheaply be able to re-group or we won’t make it far this time, I’m afraid.

The large majority of players don’t care who owns what territory as long as they get to participate in wars, and I think that’s the only thing standing in the way of a mega-server experience. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say a good portion of those who do own territories find the experience to be more work than pleasure (I know my guild did: we were all relieved when we lost our territory after holding it for a month). If that feature has to change somehow in order to accommodate a queue-less experience, then I think that would be for the better for everyone. I think there are a lot of other ways to implement wars and territory ownership that don’t cost the game its players through server queues and group fragmentation.

TL:DR version - Mega-servers are the way to go so that people can play with their friends quickly and easily. It would solve both the queue issues and sparsely populated worlds, though I do understand it’s not without a unique challenge in the fundamental design of the game.

High pop severs for sure

I would prefer " Common Sense " by the Developers…

and also if an English speaking server would REMAIN an English speaking server and not suddenly Everyone speaking Polish and Russian and causing arguments in Global Every day since the Merger a few days ago

not one of your BEST ideas… Muppets :S

An emptier Server, like 200-300 Users has been perfect so far for me. I kinda feel like not getting back at it since the merge. Not satisfied in any way. There should be 1 new server per region that you can not merge to and not merge from.

I want an option for low pop servers.

I’m having a hard time finding myself in the crowded server. Immersion is all but gone when I run though the world only to see named mob farms everywhere. It’s mechanical, nameless world that looses all the beauty NW had for me on low pop server. Same goes for inter faction cooperation. On low pop we used to feel obligated to cap forts to help each other and here it’s just random bashing.

What’s good on low pop server:

  • immersion
  • access to resources
  • community
  • invasion and war accessibility

What’s good on high pop server:

  • market
  • opr and arena
  • flinging dungeon groups.

Making market, OPR and arena cross-sever would make low pop servers great alternative for people that want to experience NW world, gather, craft in a more relaxed way. I see no downsides of having such alternative. I would buy my token immediately. And for all remarking that new player experience is bad on low pop, the server I played that peaked at 100 players had all t5 upgrades and more town board quests than 1.4k server it was merged into. New players where not anonymous and had been given all the help form players including dungeon runs and quest help.

This is so well written, I agree to 1000%

Really hate how I was just forced into the most popular server on us east with this merge. I don’t want to be in a dead server, but I liked orofena when it was a mid size server. Now there’s an unbearable amount of drama in global, trade, and OPR army chat all the time. Then you guys didn’t even fix shell company problems so no one is going to get into war anymore. GG AGS

Definitely want to be in an emptier server than sit in a queue, but there’s a limit. If the server has 100 people that’s not ok. If it had 400-600 people regularly online that world work well for me.

I doubt you will ever get queues again in this game, there has never been a positive uptick of players. Not being negative just being realistic.

As for your question I would rather sit in a queue, the feeling of a dead server compared to an active one is a huge difference.

What I prefer?

Lineage 2006 years - server capacity 6000 people
New World 2022 years - server capacity 2000 people

I hoped 12 000 per server minimum before launch, so when new world starts dying we have at least 4000-6000 online.

“Map cant take so much people” - a lot of fixes for this.
