What does 'persistent damage' mean?

heya all,

so i am trying to understand weapon perks and for some of them it says it they will not trigger with ‘persistent damage’ - so in terms of this game, what exactly is persistent damage? i asked in general chat ingame and we are all kind of confused.

Burn, bleed, poison ticks.

i think dot refers to debuffs like bleed burn poison
presietent damage refer to AOE dot like icestorm, flamethrower, oblivation, etc

Again… from my link… persistent is anything ongoing IE a DoT.
