New World was a mid-fantasy RPG, set in the height of age of the exploration. When the game was released we were shown images reminiscent of that theme. Explorers, Highwaymen, Pirates, dainty Nobles, powdered wigs, leather coats, tricorn hats, musketeers, Landesnhekct, etc. Things of the era the game represented. Of course there was an opportunity to show other eras in the immortal lands of Aeternum as well.
However, what we have gotten recently is utterly bereft of that concept. Honestly, the designs currently look like a High Fantasy MMO like Black Desert Online or something of the kin. Giant pauldrons, plate armor everywhere, needless additions like spikes, boob armor, giant horns, or whatever else. On the NewWorldGame subreddit these designs are constantly laughed about and transmog is desperately called for because no one wants to look this ridiculous.
We spend hours grinding to get items and when they’re some weird high-fantasy piece it feels so out of place. No other character in the world dresses like us. Our enemies wear in theme gear, the NPCs wear in-theme clothes. Look at Isabella, look at Thorpe.

Not to mention most of the skins we can actually purchase look hilarious, the latest one we’re a freaking butterfly!? How is this the vision for the game. What has happened to the armor design?

And instead we have some of that in the very beginning of the game, but as the game continues and we get into the late stages we have nothing that even comes close.
For those of you that are thinking “I love the high fantasy look” that is great, I’m all for you having that and you should have that choice. The problem is for those of us that dont’ love it, we don’t really have any choice. All the skins are high-fantasy, all the armor is high-fantasy, everything is covered in spikes, useless pieces, and wild designs. We have nothing for those of us who want something more realistic and more down to earth.
Please please, start adding skins or armor pieces that fit with the aesthetic of the game we were shown at the beginning. Things that actually fit with the world.
I have heard rumors transmog is coming, but even then, I’d still rather see more vanilla pieces added that match the actual feel of the world.
