you are 55 and still very sensitive like a teenager.
you should show the younger ones how to careless about the bad ones. no need to give them attention or make a post about them
I beg to differ with your opinion, shared by many, that somehow things will improve.
I do this for two reasons.
Firstly, unfortunately, given, in particular, Amazon Game Studios track record with their other games (which was canceled or abandoned), I do not see a company that is energetic about working through mistakes, correcting them, and looking at the long picture. I see a division of a major behemoth company that is essentially irrelevant in the final balance sheet of Amazon, and for whom capital is not nearly a big issue as it is for any other independent developer. Furthermore, I have observed the continual “remorphing” of this game several times over the past couple of years; each iterative attempt - it seems - has downgraded the experience.
Secondly, the types of issues we are talking about are entire gaming systems - not a particular quest, or tuning down the difficulty of a mob, or balancing some weapons. We’re talking soup-to-nuts gaming systems involving the economy, gear, resources, endgame, PvP, server population, gold, PvE, background lore/story, and so forth. These are not easy tasks to “improve” over a few patches. These kinds of things require a full rework of the game. And if AGS is foolish to attempt this in a series of patches, the problem is that the game already has been released. Development/alpha/beta stages are over. So any mistakes in patches (which there are sure to be), or lack of insight that results in even worse gameplay, will be met with the full totality of players’ wrath.
This is why, after playing intensively for one week, I already saw the writing on the wall. I too am a veteran gamer (been playing PC games since the very early 1980s).
What I would suggest Amazon do is to suspend all enhancements/features on the current New World game (except for bug fixes), and shift the entire development over to a rework of the game. Give us a timetable for the rework - maybe one year, maybe two years. Tell us that our characters can be transferred over (with some changes in the transfer).
That is the only way to salvage a game that has beautiful graphics, music, and runs fairly smoothly.
What i find strange is the lack for tranfer. An mmo should have that ready at release. But instead they “force” alot of players to stay at empty servers due to crazy movement in the playerbase.
They should have merged servers first then give out server transfer to those who moved from full servers due to massive queue time.
This would be a far bether way to keep the play ground stable and the players happy.
I know alot of ppl who are burned out playing on a server they dont like or is empty/low pop.
While I see some of your points here, some of them… don’t really make sense? Not trying to be a jerk here, but namely:
All of these things can be improved on with how the game currently is. It doesn’t need a whole re-hash. The re-morphing of the game had to be done, because it was really, really bad. I played in the very first NDA-alphas, where it was full-loot and very PVP centric. You cannot have a full-on PVP MMO and survive long term, unless you are a MOBA, or something similar. Its incredibly niche, and AGS realized this. (I don’t think you were insinuating it should be all of these things, but I wanted to touch on it briefly).
Economy at least on my server feels fine. Im level 52, and I’m at 18.5k–and managing to make some decent coin with gathering and professions. I do feel though, that some things should be taxed less (houses, etc.) This can be changed if AGS wants it to be, and I have a feeling it will be changed sooner or later.
Resources… not really sure what the problem is here? Is there not enough or something? I feel like if I’m going out to look for something specific, I can find it eventually.
PVP I think could be better balanced in some ways. Wars feel like they happen a bit too often, and probably should have a CD of 3 days instead of 2. I also think the way they had PVP scaling before was more balanced. (Stagger in a game like this doesn’t work beyond stuns–like we have. I played when it was a thing, and it sucked.) I also think that there should be greater incentives to PVP, as well as introduce an underdog bonus to tip the scales a bit in a faction’s favor if they have 3 or less territories. (I have a feeling this will also be addressed soon.)
Server Population–yes, its bad right now. However, this was more than likely known by the developers to happen eventually when they were adjusting the server sizes and increasing how many servers they had. Now that the initial launch hype has died down and people are settling, we have dead servers. But as we have seen elsewhere on the forums here, this is getting addressed–with consider of a 2nd transfer token and merging servers. Its a matter of when for this one.
Endgame–yes, it may be lacking some right now. But thats what patches are for in MMO’s. And further out, expansions.
PVE–yes, this should be a bit more varied. But they do have the tools to do this at an eventual rate. I imagine raids and such may be introduced in the future, among many other things.
Background/Lore and Story? Erm… I honestly don’t know what to say on this one. While yes, it could be presented in a more engaging way, but it isn’t the worst. I’m betting AGS didn’t think people would actually pay much attention to it because they thought they’d attract a PVP crowd that doesn’t care about it as much. Its there, but not presented as well as it could be. I imagine like WoW did post Burning Crusade, they may figure out better avenues for storytelling.
So… no, I really don’t think all of this requires a whole shutdown and rehaul. While maybe it could be better if given more time, I don’t think its the worst thing ever. The bugs, yes they are very annoying and very frustrating. But I haven’t played an MMO that doesn’t have bugs, even at this point in the game. I feel that AGS has been trying some new ways of doing certain things (while it is a gamble) I don’t think its all in all a bad thing. I consider it growing pains. People who aren’t willing to deal with these kinds of things, just really should not be playing an MMO in general. Especially within the first year of said MMO. Come back in a year or so and see where it goes.
Maybe it will shut down like AGS’ prior titles, but I feel this one has more promise than the others–AGS needs a ‘win’, and I think most of us who have faith in the game, just need to sit back, roll with the punches, and see what happens. Honestly, there isn’t all that much new out there–and I’m curious to see what AGS does. Again, I’m not saying this game is flawless. But I think people need to simmer down a bit with expectations and let the developers attempt to work. I understand the frustration, I know people want things now, and I know they want everything perfect, but unfortunately–its gonna take time.
No one should ever being calling someone a " retard " amongst the other things I see. It’s sad we live in a world where that word has become apart of the everyday vocabulary.
I agree, most every post on this forum is nothing but Toxcicity and when you say something that goes against it you get flamed.
I wish everyone would just support and encourage these devs instead of constantly bashing them for mistakes as if they are developers. I don’t think most of the player base realizes what all goes into these large MMOs of this size. With every ability, weapon, classes, armor etc there is so much that actually has to be done.
We need to support them or the majority of the current community is what is going to kill this game NOT the devs.
I definitely agree that the toxicity issue has gotten out of hand, and I’m terribly sorry you’ve had those experiences while playing! I agree that we need to actively work together to make a healthy and fun community for everyone who plays and I try to do this personally by helping new players with their boss quests, etc, etc. I personally worry about people hating on the devs so much when they’re actively working to fix the game, but theres not much we can do to stop it other than report bugs on the forums and keep our cool heads.
The toxicity on these forums is ridiculous. I’ll be honest, I rarely visit them any more because you can only read so much froth.
but this is like cyberpunk part 2: the amazon games story
or…
new world: a realm reborn part 2: the amazon games story
<3 :D!!! hey bb we love u
hey gramps. 40s, skipped ultima, d2 got me on computer, SWG got me hooked on pc gaming crack.
The youngsters are short attention span and hard to cultivate into loyal supporters. They/we have been fed a constant flood of half finished buggy ass games and this is causing a lot of knee jerk reactions. People feel burned over and over. Its like being in bad relationships over and over with liars and abusers. You see everyone as trying to bend you over and take your money… not excusing it but there is a reason so many are SOOO jaded beyond age/intelligence.
If the game survives Ill be here a while. I still play the only legit (unmodded) swg server left. Ive played league of legends from season 1 on, still do. This game has a world that is really fun to be in. If they dont break it too hard itll stay fun for the likes of me just on the openworld hunting sim aspects of it.
The thing to remember about message boards is that people who are generally happy with a game are quite often never going to comment on those message boards. And then there are those who are angry just for the sake of being angry. Granted, a few people might come along who have legitimate gripes, and those are the ones that devs tend to need to listen to, but they often get drowned out by people who are so invested in the negativity that they crave seeing a game fold and die, almost as if that gives them some perverse sense of pleasure.
Happy customers tell their friends, unhappy ones tell everybody.
I think people working on a product of any kind should be expected to draw on a skillset involving sorting information from the inevitable fluff that surrounds it on the internet.
The issue most have with AGS is that upper management are the ones who said this is a product ready for launch and it clearly wasn’t. The second problem is AGS is very picky about what their CS responds to. The final problem is that the game’s issues include often-gamebreaking exploits.
Look, we can’t just become a bunch of posies who expect we’ll be exempt from human laziness and rudeness because we like this game. We’re just as responsible for creating something readable for AGS as they are for reading around fluff posts, and part of that is not trying to counteract critics with censorship.
The answer to toxicity is not everyone constantly pointing out that there’s a lot of criticism or insisting that nobody’s on the hook to read around fluff posts-- tons of which aren’t toxic, nobody gives a shit if you’re part of the “plays with my wife gang,” that’s not a constructive or helpful post in any way. When we blam all the ‘negative’ nonconstruction but we allow all the positive to stay, what we prove is that we want a hugbox-- not a discussion.
Granted, if you also want to get rid of all frivolous posts altogether then I’d support that but I have a feeling that isn’t up for discussion at present.
Holy shit with this thread, every reply is literally TLDR
Let me answer you as why this community is toxic af.
The primary reason people turned at each other is because of the amount of bugs this game has.
Now dont jump the gun by saying this has nothing to do with the game. Wrong, it has everything to do with the game. People becomes frustrated over the amount of the bugs in the game, and started to voice their opinion about the game. And when fan boys of Amazon reads and seea these rage threads against their beloved game, they feel the need to defend and attack those that voice theur opinion.

Fan boys are the worst.
Just gonna say that not everyone on here is as old as you. Maybe some are 1/4 your age. They don’t have your level of playtime in this industry, share your history, have the ability to fully articulate their thoughts, or the patience of a sage.
There are all kinds of people here. Some are toxic. Some are frustrated. Some are oblivious. It takes all kinds. “Maybe we should” not tell others how to act and just ask them to be constructive. AGS can sort out the bad actors, if they have the inclination.
I think the primary reason this forum is the way it is, lack of any real moderation. Once people saw what was being allowed they just went further.
I have a cunning plan…
…Actually I don’t, but I dig the name.
I’ve been trying to visit the forums less and less because every time I come here there are just too many negative posts and comments to make the experience enjoyable. What surprises me is that lots of comments are genuinely full of bile. People are not just arguing and jokingly trolling one another but are actively insulting others and being condescending just because someone doesn’t agree with them.
What is also infuriating is censorship based on personal preferences of some of the moderators. Last week people started spamming those “PaTch wHeRe??!!1!” types of threads and on one of them one of the developers (Kay) left quite a few comments explaining the situation. I don’t remember which thread it was but it just made me sick to see how utterly rude some of the people were to him/her after that and I posted a thread asking people to chill and not engage in personal attacks against developers or people they don’t know. Low and behold a few hours later I suddenly can’t log into these forums as it keeps asking me to create a new user even though I was posting just fine 3 hours before that.
Had no notifications and no emails and was none the wiser so contacted Amazon support. After two(!) wasted hours the guy had absolutely no idea what happened so I created a new user with my other Amazon account, went to my original profile page and saw that I’ve been suspended for 5 days for “inappropriate” post! Obviously didn’t mention the specific mod that banned me or any valid explanation why they simply deleted a post with more than 100 likes at that moment. Yet you browse the forums for 30 seconds and find so many disgusting posts that it makes you want to leave so not sure why other “inappropriate” content doesn’t get removed.
Players are toxic because the gaming industry is toxic. Game passes, pay walls, dlcs, p2w, microtransactions… i’m not surprized there is no mutual respect.
He’s not a boomer.
Isn’t that a bit overused anyway?
My point was that if the game were lacking in a couple of areas, say PvP and monster diversity, this could be addressed over a year, possibly six months.
But when we pile on top of it the number of other issues (and if you noticed, I didn’t even mention bugs - I expect all games to have bugs), we are looking at more than a year, possibly 18 months to two years out before the game is rectified. I’m basing these numbers from this specific AGS team and the time they took to reshape the game in between postponed launches. They are reasonable numbers, and they are not pulled from thin air.
The problem is, there are many other games that will be released in that period, and people may decide to make a “home” for themselves elsewhere. Before New World was released, many players were buying new computers, taking a week off from work, etc. in preparation for a multi-year engagement. As the numbers thin out, it becomes increasingly challenging to get these players back, or new players (as other games have been released).
So it’s not a knock on the developers, nor is it a cry for “I want it now!”, it’s just an observation that some of these glaring issues should have been addressed before the game was officially released. Even if they had to postpone it for another six months to a year.
I think it’s a nice game graphics and music wise, and I hope that eventually it succeeds, but a lot of this pain could have been avoided.
