re pvp zones. if people wanted to pvp in open world they’d flag for it. they don’t. adding a pvp always on zone wouldn’t change that. it would just gank ppl who were there. its not the problem. the problem is no one actually wants it. flagging for luck isn’t addressing it. it’s just forcing people who are after chase items to be prey for those who want to gank (and the people whining about pvp on… this is what they want… to gank. they don’t want actual fair fights). there are already areas where there is pvp going on. outside of ww for instance. open world pvp has just turned out to be something the majority in this game don’t want. testing and adding for something most don’t want and wouldn’t really bring anyone back to the game for. (they’ll have it one or two people on any given world will go yay and then get bored and quit again) this game is NOT that game.
adding tokens for chase items… NO… just no. also would not come back for that. they need to just put it in the realm of accessible. but hard to get. if it’s ever guaranteed then it becomes a chore. t rex doesn’t want to be fed… t rex wants to hunt. add more luck. take it out of pvp flagging or make alternate ways to reach some sort of max luck that do not take pvp in to account. (i know there is no max now… make it so there is) give a luck indicator in your stats sheet. and give better odds on chase items so they aren’t on par with winning mega millions lottery.
also put better chase items in dungeons and world events. add some actual COOL housing items and add some way that makes viewing other peoples houses as content.
pvp with town owning is just toxic. I’ve been in pvp companies. it’s just about financial for winning. that’s all they care about. it isn’t the fun of pvp… it’s about the mercenary angle. a lot of these companies are just selling the gold. there isn’t a reason for gold to be involved. they could have really good boxes drop with good gear or jewelry etc. if they took the gold out of it it would be not as toxic but people who were into pvp for the sake of winning… for the glory… as it were, would still be into it and you’d get a lot of people who don’t get the chance now to be able to play. gold needs to go regardless of how loud the whining gets around it.
agree on the high end pve as well. i don’t (didn’t when I still played) participate in mutes for that reason. I play these games to relax. when it starts stressing me out I don’t play. a lot of ppl playing are socially awkward. having all this extrovert stuff pushed on you in game isn’t fun. needing three sets of gear for one dungeon switching out all your gems to whatever and then having someone else come along and say moron no these… while someone else is like dumbshite no… you don’t want those you want these… … come on… get off it lol.
yeah changing the need at stations for the town buffs would be good. something else you can build for. another tier of food jewelry or something.
re someone elses post about repeatable content. one of the biggest problems comes back to rewards. all of hte current repeatable content they have has no good rewards or incentive to complete. they seem to have no idea on what constitutes good rewards. more events, daily and weekly quests. innovative rewards and make those rewards salable. raise gold cap.
I’m still playing, but none of my friends from GW2 are playing anymore. At launch we had a 100 player company, and most lasted for 4 months mainly cuz we had a town to fight for. These days, for any of them to consider returning to NW, the game has to remove all the PvE grind players have to do in order to be competitive in PvP. Just think about the amount of PvE people have to do to get into PvP:
-Grind to lvl 60 (all pve)
-Level weapons to 20 (all pve)
-Get expertise to 600 (mostly pve, some opr chests)
-Farm umbral shards to get 625 (mostly pve, very little from pvp reward track)
Want to try new weapons, new builds, or change pieces of gear around? Gotta farm more umbral shards, again, all pve grinds. I tried getting my friends back for fresh start server launch, and most of them said no way, they wouldn’t want to go through all that pve grind again just to be able to play pvp. I don’t blame them. It takes nearly 100,000 umbral shards in order to swap your gear to a completely new weaponset. Gatekeeping different builds behind pve grinds lead to much faster burnouts.
To AGS credit, getting to 600 isn’t bad anymore, it’s just not fun running gen taxi runs. But the umbral shard grind is real. The question isn’t whether it’s hard to get full 625, it’s not. It’s just boring excessive pve grinds. That and crafting BiS gear sucks, none of them enjoyed it. Until there’s a way to obtain shards in volume while doing PvP, or that we get actual PvP progression/gear from playing PvP, none of my friends from GW2 will touch this game again.
Cut the number of mutation levels in half.
Keep M1 and M10 the same difficulties. Merge M2-M9 into three levels, finding a way to average mob HP/Damage/shard rewards across the three.
Even on higher server populations, Mutations are generally inaccessible because there are 10 options and there aren’t enough players queuing to form full groups. M10s are generally active. Most of the time I queue for a mutation, wait a half hour and then the lobby creator ends the lobby because we can’t get 5 players to fill out the group.
Decrease the need for a full 5-piece kit of ward gear.
create a ward resistance cap equal to the current total of a 5-piece 600 set.
up the resistance on individual pieces so that you could hit the resistance cap on less than 5 pieces of ward gear worn.
rework armor/weapon crafting. It needs to be more deterministic.
allow 2 perks for every piece (instead of one) before using scarabs.
set a fixed gear score based on your mastery level and other buffs (food, trophies, etc). Stop with the random gear score rolls.
The combination of range/accuracy/damage of musket has to be gutted. No other weapon has the god-like ability to smash you like a bug from 100m away. Hit-scan should never have been included. Musket shouldn’t exist, it needs to be heavily nerfed or removed from the game. The likelihood of the latter is low, so it needs to be gutted to bring it in line with the other ranged weapons in the game. I haven’t played OPR in 4 weeks now, and life is better. Once musket is nerfed properly, I will play OPR again. If that is never, than I am done with OPR for good. At this point, it doesn’t really matter to me much either way.
I was going to write a list of my experiences, issues that haven’t been touched/fixed for over a year and add to this list from my 3000 hours of game-time but if the dev’s don’t even acknowledge a well thought out post like this I don’t see any point.
I hope that things are being worked on internally but with little communication on actual gameplay loops I don’t feel the desire to jump back into Aeternum or recommend it to anyone in its current state.
With the PTR feedback given and also ignored I don’t even know why there is a PTR to begin with.
By making dungeons extremely hard and allowing these extremely hard dungeons to drop extremely rare BIS items with extremely low drop chances so I have a reason to run multiple dungeon runs for ages, I can literally just buy BIS on TP right now lmao, this is a casual MMO and casual and MMO don’t work together as we can see.
By giving access’s to BIS items through only the hardest of content so people have to work towards it and this means not everyone will achieve it and that’s the point this game is completely opposite right now, you want something well you can achieve it in a matter of days so what’s the point, there is no dopamine hit when you get a drop there is no sense of achievement in this game.
And yet, some of the PvPers arguing for a PvP only server, insist that they don’t just want to PvP, they want to do all the gathering and crafting (the PvE stuff you want to remove) and not just prey on the “victims” in their gathering gear who are mining, logging or whatever
There seems to be at least 3 or 4 different groups of PvPers, with very different objectives but you all seem to think that everyone advocating for more PvP is after the same thing.
I suspect it is already too late. There are new games on the horizon and NW decided to ignore all player feedback and do their own thing which they have every right to do. The player base has left, and I seriously doubt many will return for any update at this point. I enjoyed my time on the game which comes in around 2k hours, but I just cannot justify anymore of time on this game in its current state. The fresh start server was fun. I enjoyed the Stargate theme of the new area, but at the end of the day, my friends and I decided to move on and not invest more time in this punishing RNG game. The game will survive with the players left, but I believe NW will be shut down within a year. At some point the server costs will outweigh those that are left on the server. Cosmetics on the store are just crazy overpriced, NW should look into lowering those and going F2P to bring in more players. I am not sure even that will save the game.
True the game will survive for many years with a low number of concurrent players.
I think you misunderstand how cheap servers’ cost. As someone who’ve at one point rented a 100-man Ark server. It was like $75 a month for high end server service. Since the servers are Amazon’s homemade servers. I’d imagine it’ll be less than $10,000/month to host 50,000 or less people. More so on these low-end servers.
So, I have little worries about New World being shut down anytime soon. Remember ArcheAge has less than 1,000 concurrent users. And they are showing no signs of shutting down.
Possibly, but time will tell. Amazon uses AWS which is a pay for what you use model and it is literally littered with microtransactions for every service a business uses. Right now, the population is using probably mid-teir servers with dedicated bandwidth tier. I suspect if more end up leaving or taking a break from the game, the servers will move to a lower tier which has bandwidth throttled. It will be interesting to see the profitability of this studio and whether they are currently covering the costs of development, server utilities, and employees. Perhaps an expansion will be purchasable in the future which will give this game more breathing room when other competing titles come out.
Honestly every time I check NW forums I conclude the game is not for me. I do not believe its possible to metamorphose NW to a state where I would bother to return and I think significant fraction of people who play the game now would not like that anyway. I think AGS would be best to embrace demographic who stick in the game now and not try to attract everyone.
I agree, they have their niche demographic on lock down for sure. It might be best to continue making New World for them. Since no other current MMO team will cater to that demographic.
The devs unfortunately don’t master the engine of their game well enough. Therefore, they don’t dare to launch themselves in big projects that would give new perspectives and a new epic breath to their game.
Worse, it slows them down in all areas of the game and too much time passes between each update.
And when the next updates don’t raise any enthusiasm…
The future of the game gets darker.
