Whats a fresh start server? Why does it matter?

I think everyone being able to have a chance to go through the leveling grind with an abundance of similarly leveled or new players would be a fun experience. For me, I think it would be fun to run through the game again with the newer weapons (vg, blunderbuss, greatsword) that weren’t available on original launch. People don’t have to reroll a new character and stay where they are at. Not sure about all of the negativity.

Bounced down that Escalator for at least half an hour.

Good day, kid.
Enjoy raging out that people don’t want to play in your poo-infested sandbox.

It’s not about bots.
It’s not about dupes.
It’s not about cheaters.

This is software–software has bugs, things will be exploited. Things will be ruined. Doesn’t matter. If you don’t think there will be game ruining bugs in the future. I think you’re kidding yourself. I’d also argue that many of those game ruining bugs that people have complained about in the past didn’t quite have the standing impact they claim or feel they did.

Fresh start servers are an opportunity for some people to get addicted to the game again; to get those endorphin hits of small advancements to build upon them (hey level 10, level 40, level 60, main weapons max level, crafting skill advancement, gs 615, gs 625, etc). And to other peoples point, it might just be a phase and everyone moves on quickly.

However, for those people that played through to like level 30 or 40 and hit that wall, or got the gear grind when it was all chest runs and hit the wall–or hit the content wall in the spring. It gives them a chance to re-engage with the game.

Personally, no matter how hard I try, with my maxed out character that I had gobs of war/mutator experience with, I just can’t bring myself to play the game. In the last month I’ve tried to sit down and play for an evening multiple times–zero interest.

However, I do have interest in playing with friends that are now interested in re-engaging with the game that didn’t play through to the end-game and get to enjoy the experiences I did.

I do have interest in potentially building up a company on a fresh server–meeting new people, playing a different way and going through the grind with a new set of people.

There is still a high likelihood those same people still burn out and that I just end up on my main character or quitting again. But it gives all those people an opportunity to play together again and experience the game fresh. We can’t speak for everyone, but often times the most daunting part of an MMO is solo grinding to catch up with your team. Fresh starts–with all the lessons learned allow people to experience that grind again with their teams and hopefully stick it out/stick together.

This here.

I was playing with Greatsword on the PTR when my old company governor messaged me at random and said the old crew is talking about making a return to New World with the fresh servers and expansion and asked if I wanted to join them.

I was grinning when I got to tell him I was in the PTR playtesting in anticipation.

Agreed. The end game is getting kind of stale for me at the moment, but it’s been enjoyable playing opr for a few rounds. A lot of people just view a fresh start experience as fun and that’s what a game should be. If people have more fun staying maxed out and playing end game content, nobody wants to stop them. Maybe people are upset that others may have a chance to play the game and completely ignore their 3k hours of accumulated gear and gold as others start at level 1. Lot’s of respect to people who played non stop through all of the lowest points of the game. I guess it might be hard to hear that many people don’t actually cares about all of their grinding. They would rather play on a server where everyone is forced to look forward instead of caring about past game accomplishments of max level characters.

We have to remember that there’s just a lot of kids around and people of varied backgrounds.

People that make the commentary about “3k hours not being able to exert their influence or acquired gear” doesn’t quite make sense because a lot of those 3k hours guys are going to fresh start. A lot of people will go do the fresh start because it’s a new grind–it’s a new feeling of achievement.

People like challenges, speed runs, proving they can do it all over again with a new subset of people.

Which is why assuming that fresh starts will fix anything fundamental is just mental. It truly is about giving people the chance to start fresh with their friends and help re-engage people that didn’t get over those content/leveling humps early.

Don’t care (2500hrs) I’m making a new toon, lul.

It seems your questions have been answered and it has turned into a snowballfight between points of views.

My input is pretty much:
I wanted these within days when the first huge dupes and exploits started and AGS didn’t want that to happen. So i quit the game at 60 with a couple of trade skills at 200. I have no interest in coming back to the same character and have zero issues with starting over again.

The fresh servers will likely see a decline after weeks and then stabilize around a saddle point of players, maybe get merged and become main servers in the long run.

I dont really play with others much in this game anymore due to whole guild quit and never came back. We are all very close still and talk a lot in discord but all of them when pressed if they would come back say no way.

I was hoping there was more to this fresh start thing that would get them to come back.

Thanks for all your replies. Totally answered all my q’s.

This <3 Chest runs and exploits killed it for me. Fresh servers and a new leveling experience is my reason to come back. I loved the game and was so sad when i left. Same happened for me in ESO 2014 and i left for a year. I came back in 2015 and played every day until 2021. So no not serial quitter, just a demanding customer.

To be fair, most of the improvements they have made to the game in the past 9 months were things that were complained about in beta/launch, known issues. Not sure what you really contributed, besides maybe allowing them to make payroll depending on what you bought of the in-game store in the past year. Once could say that bots probably helped keep this game alive more than most of the veterans.

that is incorrect. the tax was reduced to 1 percent instead of 10 percent. the company that still received the 10 percent received 2k on a tier 4 house.

your statement is wrong by… literally… an order of magnitude.

Probably but…

Bots will make up 90% of fresh start servers on day 1

Where do you get that 90%? Sounds fishy to me.

Cool story bro

A hype server that’ll drop in pop after about a month or so.
