Whats even the point of owning a city other than ef and ww?

All the cities other then WW and EF COST money to have. Meanwhile people RECEIVE money to own ef and ww. It seems to me it makes more sense to simply not have anybody own a city other than ef and ww because its literally a detriment to your company. Whats the point?

It costs thousands of dollars in up keep for a town, to have everything tier 5 including defenses you’re looking at 150,000+ gold each week the company has to pay. While they do get the traffic to pay for a lot of upkeep there’s no way they can pay top tier upgrades forever.

That leaves outlier towns available to upgrade certain crafting stations and the ability to keep upkeep low. For instance on our server our company owns restless shores, we upgraded the stonecutting and arcanum to tier 5 and everything else is tier 2/3, our upkeep is close to 16,000 every 5 days but we’re the only ones who have their 5 stone cutting, so we get business from that. If companies are smart they’ll look at the supply and demand and available resources in their region and decide what crafting stations will work the best.

An example for weavers Fen, hemp and silkweed has an extremely low spawn area, so for a company to spend money and upkeep to upgrade a tailoring station would be foolish since no one would use it, and no one would run across the map just to use it.

Edit. Restless shores isn’t a good spot to upgrade stone cutting or Arcanum since there’s no area to farm stone or motes near the town. The only reason it works right now is because we’re the only ones who have it, ass soon as another town upgrades we’ll have to switch gears and pick something else to keep us a viable option.

ef and ww both bring in about 300k each week on my server… you can look at the governors table to see how much they make a week.

and even if another city gets T5 for something ef and WW doesnt have, its still going to lose money. its completely pointless to own a city other than WW or EF. There is no benefit and its actually worse to have than not having it.

My server has gotten to the point now where between WW and EF you have ALL the t5 Crafting stations. Soon each city will have all t5s unto themselves. All the outlying cities are going to lose a whole lot of $$$ this weekend, especially the ones that became destination cities (Had 1 t5 station that no other city had). They’ll still have that t5 Upkeep but no longer have that t5 tax revenue.

Note: By each city I am only referring to the 2 mentioned, Everfall and Windsward.

and they will all lose money doing that, other than ef and ww.

By each city I was only referring the 2 mentioned EF and WW. By soon I mean by the end of this weekend. The other cities will be ghost towns besides the people who are there for quests.

it sucks because you can add simple solutions but I cant go and force the devs to work or fix it. im just a player with no impact on the dev team.

there are 2 ways I thought could improve the current system:

1: Give each city a unique buff that nobody else could have. Its a free, permanent buff, that stacks with the governor issued buffs. (pretty similar to the unique bonuses certain cities provide in a total war game for example) For example cutlass might have +50% refined leather, mourngdale might have +50% refined ore, etc.

2: make it so there are maximum upgrade tiers for crafting stations based on what settlement theyre in. Cutlass might be the ONLY settlement that can upgrade leatherworking to T5. Mourningdale might be the only one who can have a T5 smelter. etc

right now companies are better off leaving shit white zones or all t2 stations.

The difference is that those towns have traffic.
So theoretically if the other towns also had traffic, they would be sustainable.
HOWEVER
with server caps on population, even assuming we rig the math by evenly dividing the population across all the Settlements,
would there be enough coin to go around to sustain all the cities?

Especially when there are posts saying the coin dries up in late game.

I’m curious if the devs calculated this possibility or are willing for certain parts of the map to simply be the hubs and the rest go undeveloped. It might even be a scheme to focus PvP action into contesting the key hubs instead of spreading Wars all over.

I agree the situation sucks right now, but both suggestions would just increase the amount of annoyance.

Let’s be honest, all you will do then is travel from a to b to c to craft most efficiently. On foot.

My proposal is to connect the trade posts instead. They are already partially connected but force you to go to a trade post in person to buy something.

I would make an option to make purchases using Azoth from remote trade posts. This Azoth cost could follow the same calculation formula as going there personally, but much lower.

I love the design of Restless Shore, but I could never move there because I can’t buy and sell anything.

the main thing im frustrated about, is that the devs have no communication on this. Do they even think its a problem? Do they have plans?

Feels like amazon execs have a goddamn gag order on the dev team and every public statement on anything must go through like 5 different approval processes or something.

Most of the systems in game just don’t seem to be thought through. They are just thrown into a blender and the result we got here.

Watermark gear system in a game with free trade and crafting? Making level 60s run level 20 pvp missions for hours to put it into conflict? Invasions where the company can only select 10 out of 50 players? Open world elite zones that just encourage 20 man train zergs? Luck stats on gear so you need to carry 5 different sets? Three skills with long cooldowns so you mostly spam LMB? Main story locked behind group dungeons and the infamous well guardian?

I could go on for hours. It just seems like they haven’t played a single MMO in the last 10 years.

To steal all Tax Gold and be richest people in the server

isnt this just down to players being mindless and not actually using the other zones as intended? its also early and those zones were some of the first to start having upgrades so they likely have some of the highest tier upgrades so people like to be there, but eventually the other zones should be leveled just the same, so it may level out? im not really sure.

Bruh our city in cutlass has 5 more upgrades than ww or ef. people still dont use it.

using other zones for their upgrades just isnt how the game works. people want convenient locations.

we made 60k and our bill is 100k. we needed to spend 40k of our own gold to afford our bill. its literally a detriment to own our city.
