What's the point of crafting armor/weapon

Hello everyone,
Simple question, you read the title, that’s why you are here.

What’s the point of crafting armor or weapon in this game ?

So far i’ve reached level ~130/120 in weaponsmithing and armoring, yet i still don’t find any use in it, i just crafted lots and lots of steel/starmetal weapon to just salavage them.

The weapon you craft, by the time i could manage to craft them, are already far behind my level (and Gear Score). Also i can only chose to either use one of milion mods i’ve looted, so usually you would for exemple chose strength on a great-axe but then you have a random gear score (i’m fine with that) but even with azoth to get a random perk, you can get something so useless it actually makes it useless/unsellable. On the other hand if i use one of the rare mods i get for a usefull skill (maybe i’ve one or two that can be used), then i can find myself with said great-axe with Crippling Reap but a +12 strength and a +5 intel, making it totally useless to almost any build …

So do you jsut need to random roll tons and tons of them to have something usefull ? Use your perk mods and crossfinger ? All of that to get a level 35 axe when you are already level 45 by the time you have gathered/xp all you needed to get that craft…

So i ask again to all the crafters out there, do you just salvage till level 200 to then try to make hundreds of weapon until you get THE axe with good perks and abilty ? Also do you use azoth everytime (if you hope to sell them, not for salvaging / grinding ofc)

Not to be salty but i’m quite disappointing in crafting in this game, the loot seems better everytime. The only thing i’ve managed to sell are Starmetal tools so far, and now i’m selling fewer and fewer since people on my server are buying them once not twice …

The only exception beeing jewelry since you can’t loot those

Thanks to those who read so far, pardon my english as i’m not a native speaker
Can’t wait to hear what you guys think about it

I spend alot of time farming materials for crafting. I find that the xp gains from crafting are too low and as you say you have to craft lots of items to even level. The only thing i have crafted that i can even use at this time are the tools for gathering. Armor and weapons i get from drops and quests. There are some nice things you can craft at 200 i am sure, but then its mostly about gear score, crafting something that will increase your gear score so you can get those better gear drops from mobs. Your english is more than fine.

I am 150+ in everything but Engineering. If your goal is to sell things and make a profit there is ZERO reason to start crafting. The time and $$$ you spend craft would be better used buying cheap 560 Gear from Trading Post and grinding out Myrkgard, Outpost Rush and/or Mining Void Ore.

I feel really bad for the crafters just starting out now. You will never make the $$$ back to get to 200. Also a fun fact, many of the legendary weapon materials are broken and don’t even drop in the game but AGS still refuses to tell bulk of the player base that.

Crafting is ultra late game. You can basically semi-target craft what you want at extremely high GS with expensive materials. Like, we’re talking dumping 10s of thousands of coin into possibly getting what you want. When more people reach end-game this should get more affordable.

I actually think it’s kinda awesome in a way.

We do get waaaaaay to much drops from normal mobs but the crafting is nice when you can just go an make a good set with whatever stats you want. Along with the random perks you can spend azoth on it (and the logistics around that) kinda great actually.

The broken and bad thing is the amount of drops we get from killing mobs so that kinda ruins the crafting in a way.

I am a crafter with all my heart and soul, and I have the same problem.

It’s not the number of drops but the randomness. I have seen bows with int on them or a great axe with focus. There should be a set of guidelines when random items are generated to prevent combinations that make sense.

the alternative is worse odds.

for drops you select no traits, And no weapons. This is why dungeon runners often complain they never get what they want.

note they also have recipes with preselected perks if you prefer that.

The GS can be fairly non random, depending on your house buffs, and earring perk.

You can level crafting and be ahead of your expected gear level, but the goal isn’t to meet the minimum level, but rather to beat it, and the use of rare materials can improve your GS.

You can actually pick two traits, if you have some dungeon drops. Some recipes have the main stats fixed, but the rest effected by crafting. But even if you can’t, picking the weapon type, the power level, and the main stats guarantees its decent, for drops, some times you never actually find that.

so yeah, there is two ways to go for non replicas, or stats that don’t have a replica; pick the main Stat, guaranteeing its usuable.
or pick a different stat and hope to roll a usuable main Stat.

note, that its a 30% chance you will get the right main stat

also, one should note, azoth/rarity except for level 60 stuff, effects the minimum equip level, which essentially gives you access to higher gear score earlier.

so basically the crafter has the most control over items they generate. And yes, its expected that producing a perfect item, or even a great one, will require multiple attempts.

there are builds that would use bows with Int on them, Great axes with focus

there are gems that mitigate the main Stat. Also, its supposed to be more difficult to get the proper gear from random drops, thats why crafted items have value.

items are actually generated with different chances for certain stats, and some exclusive.

well, i got armor making to 196 now. items range from 510-530 with basic materials and +10 food. not very impressive.

then again, i will see how far i can push it with orange or red materials.

thing is… you can choose the attribute or perk stat, and you always get all of them if you put the azoth in. and you craft them in bulk. which means you can go for those perfect stats pretty easily. it’s just kinda expensive, and farming materials doesn’t earn you gold. then again, you can sell good items for good money

You’re not supposed to get anything decent with just basic food and cheap mats. Use stuff like Asmodeum, get armoring clothes, armoring earring, 3 trophies, the +armoring zone buff and the +15 food buff. Now we’re talking rolling on 580 - 600.

Setting up your crafting is the real end-game. Whether you will make money off of this is a different question.

yes i know, will use the heavy stuff once i reach 200, already got some stored.

I’m 200 in several crafts. It’s the same at high level. You can craft something for yourself. But when you advertise your services saying you will craft 595-600 Gs items for them, many DM me asking the price. When I say, for example, that they need 15 glittering ebony, 3 runic leather and 2 pheonixweave to craft a bow, they never message again. That’s because if you count the price it’s 10 times the price of dropped items of this GS. They can buy 590 item from a market and never look back at crafting.
There’s still hope, because future updates might “reset” GS, raising it to newer levels and crafting can become relevant.

I thought like you but farming for the gear with good perks and talent is near fking impossible. You’ll save so much time crafting instead of pve loot grinding and water mark bs. This is from a someone who spent 2-3 weeks farming wafer mark to 591 and 4 days crafting gs 600 voidbent set. Ima work on weapon smiting next.

That’s why you craft stuff yourself get good rolls then sell that. The Mats are pretty cheap to make if you don’t buy it from the trade post. Never craft stuff for people for a “fee”. People that do that destroy the money making potential.

I craft for the enjoyment. I made starmetal gear long before I was high enough level to wear it, and had a whole blue set with ideal stats and gem sockets waiting for me when I got there.

I made an ideal set of tools. I made an ideal set of bags.

I had a lot of fun doing it! I don’t really sell anything except the most perfect ones, and I sell them for very reasonable money just so other people can get a good deal and some use out of it.

Crafting is fun!
