This does not state between different accounts which is what I’m trying to figure out. Though, I appreciate this clarification on people’s own user names.
Yep, it’s well understood that after deletion, WE can name another character the same thing, but what people want to know is how long until someone else can use the name? ie: If I delete my EU character, and spend 15m making my new character on different server when it goes live, can someone swoop in and grab the name in the meantime because it was only bound to me for a minute or two, or is it genuinely bound to me for a long time, stopping people from nicking it?
yeah that’s what i’m thinking as well
We’ll have to find out tomorrow. People with some friends can create and delete characters to find it out pretty quickly.
Hope it is not so long.
Did the same, because my friends teamviewer fckd up.
Well, I took my friends name because he had to work thinking I could give it to him later. Then I started seeing that it could be 90 days. I deleted the character and we’ve been trying to see how long it could take. We reached 2 hours and it still wasn’t available to my friend but I could still grab it.
Was totally mislead to think I could help my friend.
its 90 days… its so stupid lol
Thread with official response:
Summary of all this, the guys create a programming of the function and they have no idea how it works, saying “quick time” is the same thing as saying I don’t know…
I’m at exactly 4h waiting for the nickname to be released and nothing…
Well he is in the community staff.
He is still asking the devs and promised an answer.
its 90 days
Is that 4hrs for a name you had reserved for yourself, or that someone else reserved for you?
Yeah, i have the same question. Did you reserve the name yourself and you have deleted, retrying to use it on a different server. or did someone else reserve the name for you, they deleted it and you are now trying to use it?
It’s 4h I’m waiting for a nickname that was reserved from another steam account
and it hasn’t been unlocked yet
ahh ok, so that is the same as someone different reserving it. good luck on it getting freed up for you.
Hmmm, see, that could be problematic. People are throwing around 90 days as the length of time something remains bound to the account that made it, even if deleted. I think it’s to stop scalpers getting on, grabbing cool names, and then selling them. If the buyer has to wait 90 days, they’re unlikely to want to buy. That isn’t what you’re doing, of course, but it could be the scenario you’re in. We aren’t sure. No one can confirm the 90 day thing, but it could be real.
Name reservations are account bound. Deleting it and reusing it for yourself on the same account is almost instant. Rumor is its around 90 days for it to be unlocked for another account to use.
