When New World has Fewer Players than Sims 4

When New World has Fewer Players than Sims 4, on a Friday evening, is that cause for concern?

I mean, Sims 4 is another game that is NOT a Steam exclusive. It’s also not an MMO, which New World can’t keep up with. These are also not Steam exclusives.

Yet, these other games have sustainable revenue streams. They MAKE money.

Where is New World headed with such little revenue?

The Sims 4 just had a content update 2 days ago. Without paid dlc, the game dips to approximately 7000 on all platforms.

New World has also broke even with copies sold, and it’s budget is funded until the end of the roadmap in November.

Interesting, because it’s rarely dipped into 7k a few times since 2020 on Steam alone. That’s not ‘all platforms’. You do realize what Steam Chart tracks, yes?

Broke even and funded through the end of the roadmap? You have a link for that?

“All the way to the scene of the crash, is my guess.”

what you mean bro game is dead XD

I believe it to be undead. Not living. Yet not dead. Kept alive by unnatural causes :stuck_out_tongue:

Apologies, i only meant on PC platforms. EA Windows, Origin and Steam. It’s apples and oranges regardless. It’s a different demographic, and different genre as you said.

Is it a concern? No. Freemium business models don’t require the majority to buy their store products. If you consider they’ve sold 25 million copies since launch: at $40. It’s not hard to imagine it making back it’s inital budget tenfold anyway. It doesn’t need revenue to survive. Will it in the future? Depends on 2023’s budget.

AGS has a budget of $500 million this financial year. While not all of it is dedicated to New World, all content announced and released thus far with some exceptions fall under this financial year’s budget for development. Design would have fallen into 2020 and 2021’s financial year. And the cost to implement and test will fall under 2023.

You’re quoting a forum post, that also never provided a link. The number you are looking for is 6.8 million.

Seemed a little steep.

So 6.8, that’s 270 million? Roughly? Almost triple. Minus marketing seems to fall in line with this links revenue numbers.

They provide the GROSS revenue, not the NET. It wasn’t always $40.

Worse, over half we’re bots. Meaning no additional revenue. Ever.

i’m only going off the average here, $37.96.

I’m not sure how they’ve calculated gross revenue in this sense. I don’t think the figures they’ve provided are accurate enough. Especially because cumulative units sold go up by 1000 a day which we know isn’t the case. More were sold at release than now.

The normal means by which you calculate ‘gross revenue’. Units sold by price they werre sold at*. You can’t use averages for this.

I will admit that we don’t have insight into their store revenue. I spent $20 there once. That would also be through Steam though. I wonder if VGInsights has that info for their paid subscribers.

*EDIT: actually, I have to update my calculation. VGInsights must be deducting Steam’s cut in their ‘gross’. See this earlier article. Should have been 180 million, but they report 130 million (with a note on deductions).

that makes more sense.
