White-knighting a video game because “it’s a great foundation for a good game” is exactly why developers continue releasing unfinished products

english must not be your first language. ill try and explain.

you CAN play for 200 hours and have a good time and praise the game for all the aspects that you love when you play and are CURRENTLY in the game.

what the OP suggests, is that people play for 200 hours, and instead of praising the game for what they experience during their gameplay, decide to praise it for what they think they’ll experience in the future.

this could be interpreted as they don’t have enough arguments to defend the current state of the game so they love what they think will come down the road instead.

can’t make it clearer than that sorry.

Well if there are people white knighting… then there as many or more Negative Nancying the game.

They don’t have to defend why they enjoy something to people like you who just run around forums crying about the game and regurgitating the same talking points.

The FACT they have 200+ HOURS in a video game in less than a month is a pretty good argument of how they feel about the current state.

Expecting companies to polish their games before release is like expecting them to have pride in their work and what they produced. There are so many good things about this game but they’re almost all incomplete. The world is beautiful the sounds are amazing, the combat feels pretty good (except for all the broken mechanics)…

The thing is, WoW had years of content and lore from which it could draw and expand. New World does not. So fans had a lot of confidence that Blizzard could still make something from the potential they had. Unless there’s some hidden trove of New World back story and lore that I haven’t seen, there’s not much beyond the foundation of a good MMO with solid systems.

The thing is, I want NW to build more in this world. The fear is that from the communications coming from AGS, I don’t have much confidence that there’s more compelling content planned between now and March.

is it?

i’ve played for 200 hours.

loved the first 80 hours, forced myself to love the following 80 hours and really struggled with the last 40.

i’ve pretty much shelved the game right now.

Indeed a toxic post.
NEVER stop whiteknighting something you believe in.

There’s loads of good games, which made it… because people whiteknighted it.

But you could always place a negative review, because the server transfers aren’t working yet

Not to mention WoW launched 17 years ago. Everquest came before that. Amazon had over two decades of examples to learn from in terms of world building and gameplay design. Trying to defend this game by comparing it to something that came out near the turn of the millennium is laughable.

what ever happened to objectivity?

In this age… Objectivity is a hard thing to find. It’s better to assume nothing is objective, especially the news.

Like I said just cause you say so doesnt mean that is how it is for everyone.

Go take a break, have fun doing something else you find fun, stop throwing a fit because not everyone feels the same way you do about a video game.

lol we are not saying anything.

come now tell us what you love about the current state of the game. remember, praising potential future updates is cheating.

All the things I enjoy about New World. Are they all perfect? No but every single part below I enjoy about the current state of the game.

-Graphics
-Atmosphere
-Sound Design
-Exploring the world
-combat
-Harvesting
-Crafting
-Expedition
-Invasions
-Open world PVP fighting over settlements
-Build building (trying new weapons)
-Playing with my crew

Why people here keep comparing a game launched in 2002 to a game launched in 2021? Which other games blizzard had at that time to use to make some research to polish their game? Now let’s talk about amazon… they have plenty.

Do you actually have a job ?
Could it be they are diffrent not only employees and company.
The fact that Blizzard doesnt share its netcode or structure doesnt seem like a glaring gaping hole for you ?
And white-knighting is a symptoms of people getting fed up with toxic people complaining about something they have zero knowledge about.

So what is your excuse 17 years later that every patch or xpac still has bugs and problems?

Normally I would 100% agree with this, but the game is also only a $40 one off purchase. It may be unfinished but that is also reflected in the pricing which I can’t fault them for (whereas look at WoW on the other hand, humungous difference.)

Sure it’s unfinished, but they have said they are releasing more content/DLC’s so updates ARE coming, we can only hope they are what this game needs. If they aren’t, then don’t buy the DLC’s, easy as that.

Now you are comparing having some bugs to stuff that doesn’t work properly at all, cause that’s what we have here. (Outpost rush, server transfers…)

great!

So by the OPs standards, your are not a white knight! you are legitimatelly enjoying the game and making the most of it so good for you!

It IS a great foundation for a good game.

Unfortunately, what direction they’re heading is just as important as the foundation that was laid and given the last year of changes it’s hard to be optimistic.

Riddle me this:

How many times have they tried to fix Torghast since launch because it was completely broken and not working properly at all…
