Sweet, we’ll make all the characters super feminine then and get rid of the male models because it doesn’t matter…
Could you imagine the uproar if the only armour available was all dresses and even the “males” had breast bumps?

aslong the game is fun, idm
I am a male gamer, and I have been gaming for a long time. Since I am a male gamer, I have to ask, what is a female? I have never seen or heard of them. I dont get out of the basement much.
They’re very scary, demonic succubi who do horrifying things like pay their bills and enjoy naps.
They pretend to be regular people by infiltrating gaming communities, playing content and purchasing cosmetics but we all know they should never be catered to because that’s how they steal your masculinity. One period appropriate, tailored skirt is all it takes and you’re doomed. Your manhood will fall off
Agreed wholeheartedly…
What do female gamers want?
1. A female toon that looks female (not necessarily big breasted, tiny waisted, and large hipped).
2. A female toon that has armor fitted to her body.
3. A female toon that moves and stands like a female.
Simple…
There is a lot of talk out there that armor made for the female form isn’t historically correct…that females wore male armor. This may be true… but… this is a fantasy game, it’s not real. Therefore anything could be created, we have supernatural beings running around the world, so why not more feminine armor?
Maybe the devs need to ask ‘actual’ females what would be acceptable. It’s clear that they haven’t.
The skins in the store show us they have imagination… armor that would be totally impractical… a beautiful frilly Count outfit… So why can’t they make things for the female form? Why not give the Count skin a female option where there is a skirt instead of the trousers???
I started playing this game, excited. I made my female toon (I chose my body type… female or male not even mentioned), then I ran around the world with ‘her’… I noticed something weird about her movement, it was strange and it disturbed me how she moved. I then realized that she moved exactly the same as my male friends ‘male’ toons. I was horrified.
How/why could they not take the time to make animations for the female character? Why did they decide to ignore half of the demographic that plays the game?
It spoils my immersion into the game, makes it unenjoyable. If the male toon moved and looked female, it would spoil the game for those playing male characters too.
We aren’t asking for much, just the 3 things mentioned above… Nothing too overt, no huge boobs, no silly wiggles, and jiggles… just to look feminine, and to have some basic movements like a female… that’s all.
An example of what they could do…
Here is what they have designed already. Nice, simple… but based on a male body (see the codpiece and her stance)
This armor is similar… but it is very feminine.
They could have created something like this for the female form with just a little tweaking of their armor above.
It’s very similar… just the shape. She has a waist and room for her breasts…
OP I have no idea what you are talking about. My char has no problem looking feminine and not like a reskinned male.
Finally, I can post again! lame 5-hour cooldown on new accounts >.>
Anyhow, OP makes good and valid points (the animations and avatar skeleton strike me as placeholder ish) here’s hoping such improvements for the avatars do get implemented soon, there certainly is a high want and need for it.
plus also having animation override sets (think ESO’s thief, assassin, drunk AO’s) as additional character customization be it something you unlock in-game or buy from a store as a part of a cosmetics package would be awesome.
Why should female gamers be penalized for being female?
Making them ‘pay’ for feminine movement would be a disgusting, and misogynistic thing to do.
Having feminine movement should be in the game… it shouldn’t be paid for. It’s NOT at all like an Assasin drunk’s movement at all.
How did you read my post and end up on “Making them ‘pay’ for feminine movement” I think you may have misread my post.
EDIT: Ahhh I see where you got confused.
We are in complete agreement, thought I covered my view on that in the first part of my post.
Reposting from a previous locked thread:
The main problem is that the character customization in this game sucks and is lacking.
The New World male body type is the perfect body ideal of male models sexualized in modern fitness magazines etc.
The female body type is masculine, massive hands, overdeveloped deltoids and trapezius muscles, stocky, wide shoulders, rectangular torso and hips, wide stance with feet and posture, flat chest.
Human body types and shapes exist in many varieties.
Next time you’re out in public or whatever see if you can identify any females that are standing idle with their arms out and feet wider than their shoulders like this:

Screenshots don’t really show the injustice. This isn’t a big deal but it’s worth pointing out that in-game this looks goofy as hell.
And of course most people in general don’t stand like this. But it’s not unusual for larger males to do a wider stance like this (especially in sports/fitness/gym/outdoors related stuff) and it is something that spans cross-cultures.
The most likely cases this is the design are two reasons;
(1) save development time and resources by making the models similar so that armor, animations, weapons, grip, and stances are all closely streamlined between the two.
(2) intentionally avoid adding perfect body ideal of sexualized females due to political/ideological agenda to deny appealing to the male fantasy (appealing to the female fantasy is okay)
I’m torn.
Female character models that actually look and move in a feminine way → yeah, sure. Absolutely.
Encourage the buffoonery of people who use the term ‘mansplain’ unironically → eeeeh… pass.
The only time a female would stand like that is if she were about to go to the toilet, or have a baby… lol lol
The stance is male…only…
In my opinion, they ‘probably’ were both lazy, and scrooges when it came to the female body, and the animation of the body. They scrimped on animation because it was too hard for them. They then hid behind not wanting to offend those with political/ideological agendas.
But they have offended most all of the female population by using the male model both in form and movement.
How do they fix this now? They probably won’t as it will need a VERY huge patch to rectify this very big mistake they have made.
They probably didn’t think that it would be a problem, and probably didn’t even ask for a female point of view.
It is funny to read “… mansplain”.
Well well… no feminine characters, right? You can imagine why =)
Maybe males feminine is ok… who knows.
I made an account just to comment.
While I agree there needs more femininity in the game/character customization and there’s been good suggestions, please take note it’s not just a “cosmetic” team that would need to implement this. Yes the cosmetic team does the design etc, but to have more feminine movements, body types etc the game designers would need to make changes to the game physics as hit boxes etc would need to be altered as well as armor functioning as they’d need to make sure the correct armor is equipped to the right body type etc.
Its not just a simple create a skin and let’s go as you think.
I think with time, it will come. But there’s GLARING issues that need to be fixed before this.
+1 for needing more feminine characters etc though.
I am reading that people keep saying “I am not going to say anything”, and then continue to say anything.
OP is allowed to have more than one opinion in this game. Considering “mechanics” and things are practically every other post in this forum, I think it is covered enough.
I agree with OP.
A part of me wants to go hard on the misogyny and racism in a lot of these comments, but I know it is a losing battle. Not for me, because I am not the one with the ignorant mindset…
To the OP and those that agree: You do not need to explain your opinion, or respond to the trolls in the comment section. Most will not be persuaded, and all it will do is make you more angry and disappointed that this is still a thing going in 2022. I hope to help validate your concerns!
Good luck!
you missed it in another thread where a guy was basically patting us on the head and going there there… now here is why you don’t matter and wanting female characters should wait on a “maybe”… after he said he didn’t even bother to read the posts.
I didn’t even realize this was an issue and honestly that just makes it worse. They really need to step up their game and address this. They clearly understand it’s an issue and they are just doing piddly squat to address it.
i used to be a character design dev, waaaayy back when(AC), they can if they’re decent at it… which considering what they’ve already done can be debatable… redo the animation, and still maintain the current hitboxes if they’re careful. the armour and clothing is the bulk of the work, some might be able to be done in batches… software has come a long way since my days of 3dsmax etc.
honestly though? they should redo the entire female body type, keep this current one and use it for a “them/they” pronoun chooser… and earn kudos for being even more inclusive with 3 body type choices, which they had already claimed they were. i have a few friends that would happily play a middle ground character, just not me.
but so far they won’t even aknowledge there is an issue, which is turning off some of the players who want to play female characters, not a pseudo one.
once you see it, you can’t unsee it for the movements and stances for a lot of us, the lack of gear is even more obvious.
