The dodge effects on medium and heavy armor are and will play a major roll at some point for armor selection. In fact, if it has not been for heavy + fortify stacking, it would be very likely we’d see the opposite, namely, everyone in light armor.
By default i want to suggest that roll just transits to all the various types of armor, as it feels good and its mechanically sound. The problem is, now that we have created three dodge mechanics we are likely the different options.
Im not sure what choice the devs will make regarding these abilities, but going forward they have huge potential to make or break the armor prof classes.
I think heavy armor should get a leap, 10-15 yards forward, and medium armor should get something like a sprint for a few seconds. both these mechanics should act like rolle, as a form of dodge, but i think leap should be casted a max of two times, and spring a max of 3, and roll a max of 5.
this will enable medium armor to be really effective for range weapons, kiting and doing such things, leap for heavy armors options to engage or disengage but limited mobility. To much leaping will make heavy armor to favored, and to much sprinting on medium will make the class uncatchable.
