a new lvl 60 player? what does that even mean
Brimstone will not deter new players. It’s clearly stated on the map the required level. What would be the point of having new gear, Heartrunes, new gems etc to make us stronger if there is no place to use the new ‘toys’ or something to work towards? It’s another form of progress in the game and something that is in pretty much any game. Power fantasy is fun in games yes, but challenges are just as equally fun. With risk comes reward. If you want the new rare mats and gear, that comes with risk. Look at the entire game structure. If you went into Shattered Mountain as a fresh toon, you were rinsed. Same thing here. Build to it. Only thing I would like to see slightly adjusted, as others have said, are the archers. Difficulty in Brimstone is perfect how it is.
Brimstone is a tough place…and im glad of that. If an area is a bit too tough then i just wait until a few people run in and i run with them. Its easy after that.
GS users don’t have to be in a 15% more damage state. The Defiance tree reverses that to 15% less damage and there’s a passive in that tree that will throw you into defiant stance (guarded shift) as soon as you throw a block, so block once and close while in defiance then flip to Onslaught (if you train Aggressive Shift you’ll flip into it with a charged heavy attack).
GS is at its best when players are stance-dancing between the two to optimize damage output and survivability - it’s one of the coolest things about the weapon when it’s used well.
I’m aware, you can see that OP is in onslaught stance in several of those screenshots.
It’s not, so there’s that. Unless you mean more dangerous than a L60 boss somewhere. You’re fighting a L65 mob.
Personally, I really like the difficulty. To me it seems only marginally more difficult than other 60+ zones. I’m not exactly using a super-optimized FS/BB build with most of my armor not even having gems slotted. I can only speak for myself and what I prefer, but nothing kills an RPG for me more than having content that is so easy that it’s not engaging or encouraging me to use all (or at least some) the tools at my disposal (pots, buffs, etc).
I mean that wouldn’t surprise me. Being AGS is catering New World towards the group of gamers. Who can’t do mechanics and just want to left click their way to victory.
Is there even a MMO out with a lower skill ceiling than New World?
I’d say so yes. At least two I’ve played didn’t require the same level of skill and were vastly more gear based.
Do you remember the names of those two MMOs? And how are they doing in this day and age?

Everquest probably qualifies as well now but it definitely was hardcore originally. Nothing to do with skill though. That was the most gear based game I ever played.
Sorry not all of them were currently successful titles. I didn’t realise that was a stipulation in your rhetorical question. Obviously you don’t agree, you’d not have said it in the first place. I include LA because it was an utter spam snooze fest and I just didn’t find it at all challenging but you may disagree with that and that’s ok if you do. NW has a decent skill cap due to not being a target based game (so not just tab to target and click buttons in order to win, if your gear is statistically enough to survive the content) and allowing skilled players to compete against PVE content that they’re not geared for if they’re better players (and timing is actually a thing in its combat, which wasn’t really a thing for years in MMORPGs, in my experience). This is not so true for all MMOs that are heavily stat based, or even turn based (and turn based MMOs exist, they just don’t interest me whatsoever but let’s just assume they don’t demand a whole lot of dexterity from the player).
Whilst I agree there’s room for very difficult content, NW is not as bad in terms of challenging content as your rhetorical question implies. And in fact I don’t think BS needs to be made much easier, just tweaked in a few ways. Which it will be. Because to think any MMO is perfect initially is naive to the extreme.
Hope that answered your question. And I’m very sorry for my back catelogue of MMO games. I’ll try harder next time but you did ask me if I’d played any that were easier than NW and I just answered honestly, albeit knowing that it was rhetorical when I did.
Learn enemy animations and you can solo most single enemies in the game even at a lower gear score. They need to release more challenging PvE content not less. There’s plenty of easier areas for new players to practice on. They can also do brimstone if they play more carefully or join a group.
Actually, just to add… I do actually agree that NW can be played in a very mindless way. Chest runs (as in the zergs) are mindless and I never run them. I get why players do. But it’s mindless. Zero challenge.
This doesn’t mean the skill cap in the game is low. A skill cap isn’t set by the lowest common denominator. Soloing bosses intended to be killed by groups without necessarily having BIS gear for that content requires more skill than a lot of MMO games I’ve played before. And I will watch a zerg swarm past me as I solo some elite area and wonder how any of them actually enjoy it. The skill gap is pretty wide in this game and I fully intend to try to work out a way to solo a lot of the new elite areas (although that agro range is a killer for that). It’s OK that it’s somewhat forgiving of the wide skill gap and it’s OK for there to be “easy” content but I agree that chest swarms shouldn’t be a thing, if that’s something that biases your opinion on how easy it is.
Because if people regard chest zergs as “standard” they must think the game’s pretty simple.
I’m sorry but I have to question you about Lost Ark and WoW. Since those two have some quite complex mechanics that they throw multiple at you in some fights. I’ll have to completely disagree with you, that Lost Ark is easier than New World. I’m willing to bet 99.9% of the New World playerbase will choke and rage quite at Lost Ark’s later Tier 2 content.
WoW I heard have some very challenging content.
Everquest 2 and AoC you might have me there as I know very little on those two.
But honestly, New World has less depth in its combat mechanics then most tab target MMOs. Actually, Brimstone Sands is the first bit a content that tried the break the mold in New World. But still if one has enough gear, they can just left click their way to victory, while randomly spammy their 6 abilities off cooldown. Good luck trying to do that in the late game in Ark or WoW.
I don’t mean to offend. However, I feel like New World is designed for gamers, who can’t do mechanics that other MMOs require. I mean look at these forums. What will show that I’m correct in this assumption. If AGS nerf Brimstone Sands down to the rest of the game. Which I am fully expecting. Because of the audience New World caters to.
This is the only part i really disagree with.
I think dodge, block and maneuvering, and additionally maintaining your placement in new world is much harder than wow ever was. Since attacks root you into commitment it makes this a choice. Some attacks can be action canceled but that is a skill too.
Wow has always been simply about punching your preferred rotation on your screen for maximum DPS, and staying out of the fire. I can’t comment much on lost ark, i know that most of the game is pressing one button until you get to the end game. But with a top down game i’m highly inclined to believe it’s not much different than wow without investigating it for myself (i may do that)
With all that said, i think much of the actual PVE side has been made too easy in new world. I don’t think it should ALL be that hard, but i definitely believe that there should absolutely be areas in the open world that push players into all of those mechanics. Brimstone is just scratching the surface, i would definitely like to see harder content brought to the map, as well as dungeons. And i hope that they keep elite zones ELITE, and not do what they did to wow years ago by removing them from the world.
That’s just my opinion though.
(I think world bosses should be just that. Bosses. I want to see a cilla or nesh difficulty mob in the open world that blasts people if they get too close while people are fighting them. Or a giant like in laz.
So much opportunity for some big big stuff on the map. (With anti zerg mechanics)
I love areas that are incredibly dangerous, not just instanced content.
People are off topics here, i am here to ask, do you think its normal one arrow remove 20% of your HP bar + poison + fire dot who can stack ? One archer squeleton is more dangerous than a boss, learning mechanic ? Which one ? Don’t get it or you die ?
Who can say this is logic a normal monster is so dangerous ?
