This feels like a bit of a glaring omission.
I’ll file it under Glaring Omissions along with:
- Swimming
- Company storage

I’ve been somewhat frustrated about this too.
It also kinda influences the market for dyes, as people who use skins wont need them, cause they cant use them.
Would be nice if they would let us dye the skins too.
I was curious about this. I hesitated buying one of the armor skins from the shop for this very reason. Anytime I saw someone with a purchased skin, all had the same store colors. This certainly needs to be changed at some point. Purchasing dyes is another gold sink, in addition to it being a time sink.
Was really surprised by this when I tried it. I figured if I dyed a piece of gear I had on it would transfer to the skin. It doesn’t feel right to run around as a purple pirate when I’m not syndicate
YEEEES! THIS IS SERIOUSLY ANNOYING!
The fact that you can color your armor but not the skins is absurd.
Thanks guys! Good to know I’m not the only fashion conscious new world player out there.

And seeing as we actually pay with real-world money for the skins, we should be able to dye them…
After all, we can dye items that are free, the in-game armor… why can’t we dye something we have paid for?
I was actually sad that I lost the dye I got from the Marauders quest. Any way to get that color back once you applied it once?
I absolutely agree. I liked some of the armour skins, purchased them to use in part with dyed armour, but the inability to dye them renders them jarring and inappropriate with the rest of my kit.
It’s obviously only cosmetic and not a game changer, but it would be a pleasing quality of life issue to improve this, and allow us flexibility in using dye on armour skins, to better customise our character looks.
it’s even more amusing when you factor in how they change colour during war, but you can’t with dyes.
Funny thing is in the alpha it was totally possible. I don’t know why they decided to change that now that the game has fully released.
How are they supposed to make more money if they let you dye the skis? They clearly want to recolonization the gear themselves and then sell them again. Seriously don’t know that it’s true, but that is what most game studios would do.
Would be nice for armour skins from shop to be dyed in various ways. It does put me off buying any more skins purely because I don’t want to look like anyone else if I can help it lol. At least standard clothing you can add a personal touch and your own. if you could dye them like normal clothing, you can have some of said personal touch to it making it your own as oppose to a standardised look. I hope AGS consider this as from a monetory point of view, it would surely make it more attractive to purchase them and a win win for everybody.
The other 3 points you list…especially the first I agree…ooooh touchy subject haha. (At least we can breathe though! lol)
Please though… if they add swimming - a guy in full plate NEEDS to still sink like a stone. I see games where peeps swimming wearing full plate and carrying 1000 kilos in their inventory happens all the time. I’m all for the mechanic as a thing but some thought needs to go into it LOL
The faction merchant in each village sells it when you gain enough rep with said faction. I was worried about using my lilac dye until I saw I could just buy it again.
Totally agree on the dye, seems really unfair, especially for bought items.
Swimming should only be for light or no armour, though I would love to see a sinking, splashing animation, (try swimming irl in a thick outdoor coat, trousers and boots, that’s still easier than basic leather armour).
Overall it’s ‘fun’ to sink to the bottom of a large lake after getting knocked of a pier only to realize you won’t make the side by walking in your heavy armour. Though I would argue most of us can hold our breath for longer than the 20 second count.
I dream that they implement the same dye/skin system as GW2. best fashion system by far (outside outfit).
Funny thing is in the alpha it was totally possible. I don’t know why they decided to change that now that the game has fully released.
Maybe something screwed up. Did skins have physics in the alpha? Because they definitely don’t in live. It’s the reason I don’t use them, because standard clothing does have physics.
Although now that I know they also don’t dye, that’s another reason I don’t use them.
I’m not entirely sure about the physics aspect. Never paid too much attention to that tbh.
The dyes also don’t work like you think they would.
I wear a corrupted heavy chest right now it has a bunch of colours black, brown, green, grey.
Using a dye turns the whole thing red no more differently coloured areas.
You can’t pick a part of the armor and change only that part of the armor to another colour.
