I get it, there would be another wave of attunement needed but when you get empowered from great Axe light attacks and switch to hatchet, why would you not keep the empower? Why lock it out? Berserker buff disappears on weapon swap, I understand… It’s a hatchet ability, so it goes away, but why not keep it? Why is the decision to automatically remove all buffs? Maybe even mix in other ability nodes. Reduce CD after dodge from the spear? Put it on the other weapon too. CRIT chance and lifesteal on crit on GA? Put it on the other weapon. If balanced correctly you could mix n match a lot of builds. Less singular more cohesive and synergy.
You could hit 3 times with hatchet, get a big empower on next attack, swap to WH and heavy attack. The game isnt ready for any change like this whatsoever, but it’s a cool concept to think of.
I’ve been pushing for more and better interactions with weapon pairings from the get go. It’s absolutely a wellspring of potential; I want to one up your idea and give a separate tree of passives that goes with your weapon pairing. Could even go with fancy names like the stat giving items have. Then you might have a loose semblance of a class system… which might just be handy going forward.
The idea of stacking buffs seems at least fine, Hatchet might be the worst offender for passing out Berserk but then if you know everyone’s running Berserk it might actually become possible to prepare for exactly that with other combinations.
They need more interactions between held weapons though. It’s such a strength of the game.
Because the buffs were created with the individual characteristics of the weapons in mind. Implementing this cross-weapons buff would be s nightmare to balance.
People would abuse tf out of it. For example, you are a mage but your secondary is a melee weapon that you don’t even has any attributes applied to (like strength and dex), you just use it to buff your main, let’s say that is fire staff. This doesn’t encourage intelligent and different ways of playing the game with multiple weapons, instead it would encourage people to exploit the “most meta combo” that 70% of the people would use, just like they’re doing with IG/VG today. And then after this it would come the nerfs and that real hatchet player has lost his floor because his weapon was nerfed for a issue created by fire staff users.
Being able to combine buffs, perks and abilities from borh weapons would benefit NW.
More split spec and you don’t need to go always 300/160 stats.
And you would raise the skillbar for PvP.
Which most of us would like.
