Why do you keep delaying merges

This could be another “I’m leaving because” post, but I haven’t left yet.

Everytime that I log in and see this:

  1. Browse mutateds and see 0/1 lobbies for M10;
  2. Queue OPR and see <15/32;

I just log off.

Now, for the long term solution I’m all up for cross server matchmaking.
BUT, merging is not something new, you know how to do it. You’ve done it. Why do you merge so rarely? If you did merges every 2 weeks ( I’d say keeping a peak of ~2k) i believe more people would play.

As the game is, it is not enjoyable vs time spent. Please merge as often as needed.

I appreciate other opinions, after all, we all want the same: a thriving game

Merges coming this month, as soon as the entire team is back from break so possibly this or next week

Edit: i dont actually know if its this month but definitely early 2023 according to katy on twitter

My post is not about one merge. It’s about the frequency. We need merges every week or so.
All they need to do to save the game is forget about the transfer token money for a while.
Just merge and give tokens every 2 weeks to keep servers healthy and the game will increase in population.
I know this brings some territory issues but that’s preferable than letting the game die.

I’m on board with this. I’m a fairly new player but the way they seem to delay merges etc worries me. I play these games to be among a large community etc. I don’t want to play on dead servers.

I started on a fresh server because I figured that was a smart move. Chose Kronos EU Central. It’s now at 700ish players peak time. They should have at least 1500 players at peak times.

Lol no :joy:

You don’t need more than that to easily get a dungeon group or opr or to sell things. Dry tree is the same population more or less and i barely ever feel like it’s “dead”

You don’t? Because I do. My server does.
It obviously depends on the players activity type but below 1k the server feels anything but alive.
And a game that feels dead doesn’t grow. It dwindles.

If you feel the game is alive with 700 players that’s good for you. But I don’t feel that way and I am afraid more people like me give up on this game because of how empty it feels

Edit because it doesn’t register as a reply
@Properso

The problem is AGS knows the populations swing wildly up with each of their good patches that adds content or addresses issues but then also swings wildly down on their subsequent awful patches that introduce more bugs/exploits. When populations drop, its easy to just merge them back up every 2 weeks or so like you propose. When populations surge, what do you do? People will be shouting about queue times, wanting free transfer tokens, can’t play with their friends if they move, etc, etc.

I’m not defending AGS at all, they definitely need to do something and I’d personally rather them merge aggressively and hand out free transfer tokens every time they get in an overpopulated state. It just seems like they’re finally realizing that their game / server design is totally busted and not sustainable. That being said, they cannot just sit back and do nothing waiting 6mo for cross-server play…

Sorry, I should clarify I don’t feel like it’s dead atm but it’s only a matter of time. Combining 2 servers at 700 players peak just seems like a smart option to keep the population strong.

As stated by someone else though there’s also the threat of new content causing queues etc so yes it’s a balancing act. Something needs to be done to keep an active population though.

It feels like a simple decision in my opinion.

  1. Game is in a bad place;
  2. Force merges more often to keep populations high;
  3. Give a free token every time you merge*
  • This solves the queue problem at the expense of loosing some money. But won’t the overall project also loose money if the current player loss tendency keeps going?

My server “Arjuna” is around 200-300 and i’s so hard to find ppl to play with.

That doesn’t explain why they held off from doing it all the way in early december.

If you look back to not just fresh start but in general merges are being held off for way too long.
Ofc I don’t know exactly how much work goes into a merge but let’s face it, if fresh to fresh transfers were a thing I could at least pay 13 bucks to play the game.

My Server got merged in December and it did nothing :smiley: They merged us with another dying server… so now we still sit there for hours and cant get a Lobby up…

This is what I mean. Merges exist, but they aren’t solving the issue because they are being poorly used. It’s like adding water to food that already burn.
Merges need to keep population high.
And lack of population is the greatest offender to game longevity in my opinion.

nope no one play… This is the biggest problem of AGS anyway.
If they’d played the game, the game would have had little problem

Exactly this. And the more people that feel like this, the worse the problem gets
