Ok, I’m not feeling all that great at the moment, so I’ll just try to cover things in brief.
First off, NW launched with many bad problems, from the core game mechanics where a small part of the PvP community was intended to be super rich (with all the problems that that has entailed from launch right up till today), bugs, lag, and other technical issues, and flat out mismanagement on the part of AGS.
First, I think that to make everyone happy, but keep us all on the same servers, is a fools errand, so make it possible for players to choose whether or not they want pvp to have any impact on their playing experience, by putting in a choice when creating their characters, to PvP, or not to PvP. If a paying customer wants to make any particular given character one the is possible to play pvp with, then they already can, but if they want to play a character who isn’t on a server with wildly imbalanced wealth and bonuses, there currently is no option to make a character that can play on a server without any of that. Fix this right away.
Second, get rid of the “One character per server” thing. This is just plain silly and dumb, and keeps folks from wanting to keep playing, as each and every new character is going to have to be built up from scratch, with no support from the previous characters. Keep in mind, folks that who already have 2+ accounts, played on 2+ computers, can already have (and have been able to since day one) two or more characters on the same server, and not just that, but can have them both (or all) on at the same time. These folks, who are breaking the rules, have been enjoying the ability to beat the system all along, so level the playing field, by allowing everyone to have multiple characters on the same servers, even though we can only have one character on at a time, as opposed to those that cheat, and have multiple characters on at the same time. To give the legit players the ability to transfer items from one character to another, is simply a matter of having one additional 1,000 pound storage space, not a territorial storage shed, but a shared account storage, where any of the characters on the same server/account, could take and put items there.
Third, realize that, with a game in NW present condition, it is going to take time to patch, and expand, till AGS can eventually achieve the kind of game that we all want. So, commit now to making incremental changes, and allow new versions of the game to come out, that have a different way of playing the game. On launch, many folks hit 60th level quite quickly, and while that was a mistake, it wasn’t the biggest mistake. We need NW to not dead end at 60th level, as that will kill player interest, and rightfully so. We need folks to have the chance to keep playing and advancing their character beyond 60th level, by means of a Prestige system, where you can restart your character over and over again, but gaining real power each time you do so.
The reason that this needs to happen, is that, if Crafting for example, is to be improved from the current hot mess that it is, into something that makes more sense, and avoids making BiS pez dispensers out of all the characters that got too 200 everything, using the old system, when you could just buy your levels for gold, and leveling was much quicker and easier, then the game dies from being overdosed on BiS gear everywhere. If you make a new Crafting system, but lock out all the legacy characters that folks have 100’s of hours invested in from the new system, the game likely dies from all the old timers quitting in disgusted anger and outrage.
OTOH, if you implement a prestige system into NW, where the new and improved Crafting skills progression is put in place, you can then restrict folks being able to level up within the new system, until they first get their character to 60th (Character) level, using the current system, and then, once they prestige up, they have unlocked the next portion/stage of their characters ongoing adventures with Aeternum, and can now progress using the new/next tier system, that makes crafting better than current. If it takes time to work out a ‘perfect’ Crafting system, and let’s be honest, this is going to take many many months if not years to do, we can at least get started on this process now, and when new and improved Crafting systems are ready to release, we can already have a system of Prestige up in place so the next time folks want to improve their Crafting skills, they just restart their current Crafter once again, and then their journey continues using the hypothetical Tier Two Crafting system.
Only by getting our minds around the fact that, currently leveling up is to slow to be enjoyable, yet simultaneously far to fast for the long term health of the game, we need folks to be able to reach 60th character level faster, and get on with whatever trips their trigger, but we also need to have a multi-tiered system for Crafters that doesn’t just end at level 200, and is a total slave to RNG.
Just using Crafting as an example, say your first run through from 0-200 nets you the ability to craft just like in the current game, basically you can get max gear, but it will always be RNG slavery.
But then, once you level up your crafting the second time around (keep in mind, I have yet to repost here in this thread how this is going to be much, much faster than the current system, and why), you unlock different skills and perks, perhaps where you can specialize your craft, so that in some meaningful, but not overpoweringly overdone way, your crafting, of some things, is less RNG, and more skill/player time invested, with better results.
In an MMORPG, you never want your players to have reached ‘the end’, but rather to always have some improvement that they can aspire to (and achieve in a reasonable time frame) so that, they keep playing, and keep getting more and more powerful.
Now, like I said, my poor health is making me feel sick more and more of the time, so I need to take a break.
