Remove everything, 0 weight. Now use that argument. It’s a fantasy game, man.
As for OP, two reasons: it’s too late to put it in and they’re not going to bother (lazy), or it’s too complicated because of game engine limitations. Either way, it’s fun to poke AGS because they don’t want to answer.
It is honestly absolutely ridiculous swimming is not in the game. I swear game engines are taking steps backward instead of forward… Christ , everquest had swimming and we’re talking 1999. YES, 23 YEARS AGO.
Idc if its part of game mechanics or not, you put water in a game, you should have some element of swimming (either afloat or actual diving)… sinking is stupid, just make it lava, atleast on a physics level death will make sense.
-why can’t a sailor swim?
-why can’t one tame wild fauna and use as pet or mount?
-why do we have to join a gang (faction)?
-why can’t one build their own house on the wild?
I would imagine the answer is as mundane as either:
The engine doesn’t support it and/or it’s not even remotely close to a pressing need at this point in the game. I can imagine there are a lot of additional safeguards they would have to put in and terrain considerations that would have to be revisited to implement swimming and not create a ton of additional exploits and to make sure the areas players would swim is populated with content.
Unless there’s a reason to swim in a game, there usually isn’t swimming. Water is an alternative barrier for keeping players on rails through the environment and inside the designated map space.
exactly. people already bypass mobs in elite areas by simply running. they dont want you to bypass every single damn thing in the game by letting you swim around it.
When we crashed on this island we all actually died, now we are zombie pirates - which is why we walk on the ocean floor, but zombies require ALOT of oxygen thus cease to exist within 20 seconds of being in water.
Honestly the answer is just to keep us within the island and not use a direct shortcut to that said island in the middle of the lake.
I dont think it puts the brakes at all, its tedious to go around to the bridge but it does promote exploration.
What i would like is to have a potion that can increase water breathing by 50%. And include chests in the water. I can forget all about the swimming if i can at least have something to explore while walking underwater.
I believe it is to create a barrier and force you to explore like was posted here.
Maybe they could allow swimming but have it use your stamina, the longer you are in the water the more you use. Once you get to 0 you sink/drown. Thus you could get some places faster but not all. Maybe have weight also a factor? The heavier you are the more stamina you use and the slower you swim?
