I have played some games that are much more demanding than NW and never have an issue with heat. I have followed all the guides and recommendations, I even reduced the voltages which helped a little. This game runs my gpu at 100% and around 90 celsius, cpu usually same but temps hover around 95. I am afraid this will eventually smoke my cpu or gpu.
I built this computer myself and like I said, I run many games and usually run them at highest settings with no issues
How else could they mine bitcoins?
GPU temps seemed fine but 95°C on CPU is a little bit worrying. CPUs themself can handle temps up to 115°C just fine, but Mosfets and Voltage Controller, which are usually around the CPU Socket, dont get usually monitored their temps.
With temps as high as you stated, my guess would be that you have a bad airflow or your cooling isnt able to move the hot Air within your Case to the outside. Thus its getting really hot which could lead to substancial degrading of your Mainboard components.
New World does use literally each component of a GPU/CPU, mostly because MMORPGs tend to have way more dynamic Content as a singleplayer Game, which cant be optimised as good as heavily scripted Games.
Same here. NW is the only game I make a point of shutting down when I leave the house, solely because of the heat that pours out of my PC when it’s running, even if I’m not playing it and it’s at the login screen. I can’t forget by accident because I can hear the cooling fans on overdrive. No other game has this effect on my PC.
since the last major patch I actually have to turn on the fps limiter to 60 and have to undervolt and underclock my 5700xt. I did not have this problem before only start after the last major patch.
I agree, seems to have gotten worse. I really feel like it is an optimization problem like mentioned above. Someone said airflow but that would mean all of my high end games would also cause overheating and they don’t. I use MSI Afterburner to monitor, slow my clock speeds and undervolt. Have also undervolted in bios with very little success. I really don’t want to be throwing a lot of money at a problem only one game has, I already have about 2500 usd in this system.
I mean he did mention that his overheating problem only happen when he’s running NW. I have the same problem since the last patch.
How is your performance though?
Personally I play on a laptop that is a few years old but it does have an RTX 2080. Mine always runs pretty hot but not near as hot as your listed temps.
Performance is an up and down issue for me. With each patch it seems to fluctuate a bit but recently it seemed the worst it’s been so I was tinkering with settings and I ended up changing my audio quality from 100 to 50. Most of my sounds are turned down so I figured it would be a good trade off.
I ended up gaining a much more significant performance boost than I ever expected. I would struggle to maintain solid averages and instead had wildly fluctuating frames anywhere from 20 (in town) to 50. Now I’m getting close to 60 in most areas and in town it never drops below 40.
Perhaps by adjusting some settings you can get the demand on your components down and lower those temps.
Other than that I can only suspect poor cooling, improper cpu seating and the usual suggestions so far. If you are handling other games fine those could still be an issue as new world isn’t exactly known for good coding or having a game engine for performance.
After April patches my temperatures are up across all sensors. I have even had to move my settings back to Med vs High.

Yes, this. Seems like something they could work on as I know a lot of people have heat issues, especially when it was first released, I heard people saying their gpu’s fried because of the heat, some were caused by software but only burnt up playing NW.
Actually the game runs great except for the heat, never have an issue with performance even on the highest settings, I just can’t use those settings.
I guess if I want to continue playing, I will have no choice but to find a way to get more airflow or go to a water cooler. Was hoping to get a response from a moderator on whether or not they are still working on this. Thanks all
This video helped me.
(15) How to fix NEW WORLD high CPU / GPU temperature problem - YouTube
Instead of setting max CPU to 85%, I set it to 99% and it still works fine. Didn’t have to change video settings at all.
Honestly don’t know why it works, but the temperatures are way down, nowhere to close to 90 degrees for both CPU and GPU. @Aenwyn the devs should investigate this because it clearly has a profound effect. Without doing this my CPU and GPU fans would be running at 100% and the temperatures would still be around 90 degrees.
tell us what are we minning at least
Unreal engine 4 or 5 would do wonders! This Azoth engine is weird and it feels like my computer is going to fry anytime playing NW. I think they set the game up to try to force the CPU and GPU to give some FPS, but this causes the computer to consume a lot more than it should and heat up.
As i said, New World is using nearly any component of GPU/CPU to its fullest potential, this doesnt imply New World is very efficient with the Power they get supplied with.
What you’re witnessing is a real heavy workload on multiple components at the same time, a very rare usecase for consumer Hardware. This is why professionals use a multitude of programms to Stress Test a newly build rig. Running something like MSI kombustor + linpack extreme + HD Tune at the same time for at least one hour was our worst case scenario for heavy workload.
Most PCs will never experience such a heavy workload, most common Games only use at most 80% of the components on a GPU and rarely 50%+ of a CPU.
AGS should absolutely invest time to optimize New World for lower useage while keeping Performance on par but this is somewhat labor intensive and not an easy task.
You already did most of the things a User can do, but taking a look at your airflow could be a viable option. A good 120-140mm fan should cost around 15 bucks.
Check your already installed case fans, maybe some of them are installed inverse, this happens sometimes.
Here we have a picture of how the airflow should be guided:
Cold air naturally falls down, while hot Air flows up, commonly known as chimney effect/stack effect.
Rear- and Top-Fans should suck hot air out of your case, Bottom- and Front-Fans should push cold air into your case.
I am not sure what others have said as I haven’t read it all but how old is your paste on cpu? might be worth trying some new paste
new world also uses high gpu for me but cpu temps stay around 65 max, all settings on max
as you have a pc I wouldnt go about setting cpu max under 100%. All that does is turn off turbo boost. I would look more into the cause, bad paste, bad cooling etc.
What cpu do you have? Does the pc have high cpu temps in other mmo’s (as they are the most cpu intensive)
Missed one of your last posts about the watercooler. Im guessing this is the issue.
Get better paste and get a 2 or 3 fan AIO.
Also make sure its a mid tower case minimum, Ive had huge issues with smaller cases on more taxing games like mmo’s in past builds and now use a mid tower.
I feel both temps are too high for my liking, I know you can get away with it but I would much rather see under 80c on both and if pos under 70
