So let me try to understand this… If I log onto New World and Grind my crafting up it leads me where?
Void Bent Maybe? (Not the Greatest) I mean I can Knock out 1 million pieces of armor and hope for a 600 to roll that I want, or others need (This then allows upgrades)
Yet if I don’t care or even want to work trade skills, I can go Easily Farm a Named item at 590 GS and then upgrade it? Can someone please do your best to explain how this even remotely makes sense?
What if I craft something that is AWESOME and has everything I want or the person who is asking wants it… Yet it came out 595 so aka (F-U) man its trash can’t even upgrade…
Please AGS or anyone tell me how you guys even come up with such a stupid system that makes crafting stupid… Just Buying and selling sh*t to make the leathers and Pheonix weave until the new players realize it was a waste of money?
Yeah crafting sucks, it’s intentional. AGS wants people playing PvE all day to up the metrics. Advertising NW as “Our game entices players to spend thousands of hours in dungeons working hard to gear up” sounds better than “players only spend an hour gearing because they crafted it all.”
Crafting has terrible (questionable) RNG and they’ll leave it like that for a year, but if use a runestone stopwatch on a shield or accidentally put down two trophies and they’ll instantly patch that out and hand out permabans like jehovas witness pamphlets.
Yeah, sure. You happend to have 2 other basic armoring trophies and a minor armoring trophy and you just accidentally placed them in the right places along with the 3 major armoring trophies.
The high cost of getting to max crafting is too much of a hassle for most people. I would argue it’s not obsolete though because anyone with the resources absolutely does spend the time/gold to do it. I think people get obsessed with having 3 perk legendary gear, so anything less than 3 BiS perks for an item is trash. Honestly being able to get 2 BiS perks on a purple item with a scarab is great. People can craft themselves some rather decent stuff, but chase the “must be BiS on everything” so they waste all their money/time/resources gambling and say the game is broken.
Crafting is Not obsolete if you’d want some specific Gear outside of meta builds, but its a gamble. While most MMORPGs tend to “Hand Out” BiS items in Dungeons or RAIDs and crafting gets diminished to “consumeables”, at least New World has still some use for weapon- and armor-crafting.
But i do think they still need to improve crafting to get better odds of crafting GS600 stuff because thats more frustrating than its useful to the Game.
I didn’t do it, or else I wouldn’t even be here. Just think it’s funny that the second crafting became remotely viable they immediately took action.
Same thing with fishing at launch. They thought 200g per 5 minutes was too much and now it’s the most useless profession in the game.
When AGS decided to lean into completely random RNG based loot generation with this game they really complicated the itemization process and over estimated the player’s tolerance for “Garbage” output. To them having garbage incompatible non synergistic outputs was just a factor of the blooper sounds from that 80s game show. But it failed to take into account a ratio of bloopers to grand prize winners.
Most modern MMOs that have vertical progression of gear offer that through actual named tier sets for each class. Our game doesn’t have classes and it’s as if their developers said oh well that’s fine. It just makes the Grand Prize that much more grand.
What that has created is a world where probably 95% of generated loot is absurdly common or absolutely garbage while that last 5% is stupidly rare and extremely expensive. Has anyone priced BIS items lately? We’re talking so rare that people are finding ways to pay three, four, sometimes five times the gold cap for the items.
A big part of that has to do with how rare it is to find certain combination of perks because of the RNG aspect. They use RNG to simulate actual progression. But the problem is everyone wants to progress everyone should be able to progress but almost no one enjoys RNG lottery systems. There’s a reason people don’t make a living playing the lottery. There are far more bust stories than get rich stories.
This game really needs a smarter generation tool where a lot less garbage is generated even if it is at the expense of less overall drops. Have the drops be a lot more reliable in terms of producing perk combinations that are desirable based on the games current meta.
There needs to be mechanism in crafting specifically that allow master crafters to get to a point where they can hand craft a 3 perk legendary on demand. It doesn’t have to be limitless. It can be relatively expensive (25-35k gold in materials). It can be time gated (only available once a day or once a week). But that would be incredibly more valuable as a QoL system than what we have now.
We’ve asked for the ability to reforge gear since launch, it’s been ignored. They gave us scarabs and then made the chance to proc a legendary STUPIDLY rare. And that leggo is still random results on the third perk.
It doesn’t make any sense that a craftsman masters their craft. Wastes all those materials to reach 200. Has to farm or afford the trophies and the gear. Has to acquire the food and rely on a town buff and at the end of the day it’s still comes down to luck.
The drops aren’t any better - crafting and drops have a very very similar profile if not identical to RNG generation.
The only game I’ve seen like this that was fun and it didn’t have crafting was Borderlands and the reason their loot system worked at all - lootsplosions. When is the last time you felt like the loot you got was an explosion. For all the crap you get you’d always get something worth hanging on to. Right now you can run a nights worth of Lazarus mutations on M10 and not walk away with a single sellable or desirable item.
All items in the game when upgraded to 600 should get a third perk rolled. It’s as simple as that. Until that happens crafting will remain a crappy casino simulator that more and more people avoid.
The price of golden scarabs has tanked since they came out because everyone realized its just more added cost and next to no benefit.
