Unless you’re in light armour dodging isn’t going to help that much, these abilities have a larger radius(or line for IS) than a single heavy or medium dodge
First off there are means of using IS in a way that does not allow dodging. Most frequently IS is dropped on top of me followed by about 5 other teammates from Red slaughtering anyone in IS.
Second, I really don’t believe IS needs a complete rework or needs to be nerfed into the ground.
However, it could stand to have the volume turned down. Especially with perks the duration of the effects of IS simply last too long.
Removing root, stun, etc., is probably not possible seeing as the entire pvp system is built on CC. Again, adjusting the CC of IS is necessary in order to keep some semblance of balance in a game mode dependent on it.
Finally, whenever you see a large jump in the number of players using a weapon to the exclusion of all others the weapon is either new or overtuned. WH/GA is a long lasting issue. There are obvious reasons why so many of us carry one or the other everywhere, but particularly in OPR.
I love the diversity of builds in this game. IG/GA is a great example. Who would have thought to put them together? Nerfing a weapon or ability into the ground though only destroys it’s use in the larger game.
Theeee most abused newb skill a long with G-well. They really really need to add in a DR system. The issue is not with one ice shower or one G-well everything has a counter. The issue is having 5 G-wells and 5 Ice showers just spammed on top of you with no immune timer. There should be 3 second DR immune timers for all CC. If you get rooted a 3-second DR timer this would prevent the G-well bomb and ice shower stacking.
The grp pvp is very very lackluster on skill-based. This is not a skill-based system.
There is a tendency for AGS to nerf everything that mages can do to defend themselves from melee.
No doubt Ice Shower will be nerfed in pursuit of their apparent goal to turn mages into Target Dummies for melee. Then it will be on to the next mage’s self defense, maybe Incinerate, or the Life Staff’s ability to heal themselves.
The issue is most PvP games have a DR system. Things really should not get nerfed if a minor DR system was in place. For example, the VG scream could have kept its root duration if a DR system was in place. It was not the duration people had issues with. It was the mass spam of it.
CC as is. is not an issue but Spamming it on a mass level with no DR system is an issue and creates low skill pvp.
Well, most games that institute diminishing returns actually try balancing weapons in some active form while this dev team does it once a month, and MAYBE they’ll balance the right thing or in this case, make things worse. “Yeah, that’s too strong and used too much, let’s tone it down next week at the latest” becomes “Let’s leave it as it is for two months or more and see what happens”.
Four months in the case of Petrifying Scream sadly, first cooldown and then the root duration in March. Here we are in the second “Tuning and Balance” monthly patch, three weeks in mind you, and have yet to see a lick of changes to any weapons. No buffs or nerfs to be seen, though I could live with far more buffs to underperforming skills (Cyclone), much needed reworks (Windchill), giving utility to weapon perks (Energizing Rending Throw), or updates to lackluster passive talents (Enchanted Justice and Trial by Fire on a 2 min cooldown ).
The Combat Team is working wayyyy too slow considering how many new, worthwhile perks are getting injected into the game (crafting decent gear/weapons is another topic) while perks like Burning and Bloodletting become more vogue. There aren’t any substantial combat changes happening in the meanwhile, yet weapon development is stuck at about 2 per year??? Maybe it is a lot to ask for, but man, the missed opportunities really are an eyesore at this point.
A minor DR system would fix a lot of things. TBH with 2k hours of PVP experience so far on this game every wep is solid and has it’s own counter. It’s just the massss spam of CC that is annoying. Get hit by 1 G-well ya live dodge another get hit by 5 more all in 5 seconds. Then you get hit with 4 ice showers on top of the G-well. Yeah, so much skill!
There is a tendency for AGS to nerf everything that melees can do to catch up to mage.
No doubt grav well will be nerfed in pursuit of their apparent goal to turn melee into Target Dummies for mages. Then it will be on to the next melee catch up tools, maybe skewer, or the Hatchet’s ability to cleans themselves.
The Scream nerf made Void Blade essentially useless in PVP.
Now Focus usersd have only Life Staff. It’s not even worth switching weapons to Void Blade any more, even if you have it. You’re actually better off with a Hammer, or Great Axe, or SnS, because at least the CC is effective.
THe 1 second on Scream doesn’t even give you time to finish the animation for the skill and do anything else. It’s useless.
Ppl acting as if only mages are using IG… I see Spear/IG, VG/IG, GA/IG, Sword/IG, FS/IG, Hatchet/IG, BB/IG, Musket/IG and most of those are pretty common. The Ice showers are usually just dropped on you while caught in 1 of the 3-5 Gravity wells.
But what bugs me the most is when I get into an Ice shower and I try to get out of it and I get bounced all over the place back to it due to lag or rubber banding.
This is why I say mage is easy mode vs all the builds in the game and has the most cheese. A mage should be able to kite decent vs a melee. BUT a melee should always have a chance to catch that caster and when they do the caster regrets all choices. But it’s not like that Idk how to explain it. The game is basically spam all CC and sync bomb aoes. very yawn.
I miss How Dark Age of Camelot balanced pvp I will never understand why they won’t learn from daoc XD
Bloodlust makes you 20% faster permanently, at no cost to Stamina. Grav Well which is ranged, AoE, and is an interrupt. And Charge which is a 10 meter close, with Grit, AND an attack finisher.
No other weapon can even come close to that, with the possible exception of Rapier, but even that isn’t close, because the skills require Stamina and have Cooldowns…so it isn’t Easy Mode like Great Axe.
If you can’t close and get into melee with a Great Axe, then either you suck outright, or you are chasing mages through open ground, where they, as well as any ranged, rightfully have an advantage. But even then, you should be able to catch them with Great Axe anyway, between Bloodlust 100% uptime, Grav Well, and Charge.
Blood lust is only in 15m and many other weapons have haste and it is not hard to keep away even with bloodlust, charge is similar to burn out, g well is a bit over tuned at the moment but at range it is easy to dodge and entomed nullifies the damage.
Ga has to keep up with two weapons as the the other melee suck at chasing or are not good enough to were switching would be beneficial. the secondary is used for lockdown and damage as it is not just about getting in melee range but keeping them there.
It doesn’t need to be ‘addressed’ you need to learn to walk around the damn thing. You people have got to get off this freaking nerf everything but my shit shit! And no I do not use the ice gauntlet. I personally don’t like the feeling of it or any mage weapons.
