After watching the update video and the first thing they say is pvp game modes my heart sank. What are your thoughts and opinions? Why would a game similar to new world release an update that was focused on pvp? If you watched the trailer, What were your thoughts about it? Is there stuff you seen there that AGS should implement for New World.
FromSoftware and AGS are very different dev studios. From is notorious for trying things that “shouldn’t work” based on market research or w/e and producing commercial successes anyway. They would rather adhere to their creative vision of a game than to dilute that vision in order to make the game more accessible. I’m really glad that they continue to be rewarded for doing so.
I’m not sure if this is actually the answer to your question, but it should at least answer why I think it’s an apples to oranges comparison between these two studios.

Not sure on their why but ngl the colosseum update looks pretty fun. I’ve been tempted to hop back in myself.

Funny how even FFXIV which never had good pvp is now keeping the majority of “longtime” players doing pvp xDD
God even casuals went to enjoy it over there lol
People can hate all they want.
PvP dominates the market massively. League, Apex, Overwatch, Fortnite, CSgo, Valorant, RainbowSix, Cod, Dota2. God you could even argue games like NeedForSpeed etc. are mainly played to compete with others.
Eldens Ring population over the last months has likely been only pvp enjoyers aswell.
Most of those games have playernumbers NW can’t even dream of it’s so unattainable.
If NW’s pvp would be more of focus I’m sure it would retain way more players.
Especially since they already have the groundwork layed. People already do enjoy it, but 0 tweaking just ruins it lol.
FFXIV is getting players due to story. Some just love that shite.
While the endcontent raiding which takes them by far the most work, is done by just a minority of players. But I’d argue they could have more players if the content would be a bit easier.
Raiding is hard man, even for absolute sweats
FFXIV is more about transmog, player interactions, housing, RP.
