I see enemies use the shield with a shield all the time and be hard to kill. Why is my spear not a defensive weapon. I saw the main boss in the new Great Sword video with that same combo so why can’t we have that?

Probably just a typo and meant spear with shield.
I was about to make a question topic about this. Couldn’t agree more. Hopefully AGS adds spear and shield combo at some point and disease/plague and lighting weapons that certain enemies use. Dual pistols i’m looking at you aswell.
New World Spears are two handed weapons. They will have to do something about that if they added Spear / Shield. The only solution I can think of is a perk that adds a third arm 
It would be a really nice add to the game. My guess is that spear is a two handed weapon, and we don’t have one handed spears…
But hatchet shield, or dual hatchet would also be a nice choice.
there are Roman legionary mobs in brimstone sands, which have pilum (1 hand spear) and scutum (roman shield).
It would be nice to see it as a combination.
But I hope to see another weapon to use with the shield, namely the one-handed mace. Maybe with cleric build (protection and sellf healing)
That’d be amazing. I’d call it “The Balboa Build”. Just pummel mobs with your shields.
