Because it is now playable after they removed Tuning Orbs. For me it is the only major reason. This game was not playable when Tuning Orbs are around.
Because GS is badass and the lvling experience is good.
Largely the tweaks they made to make the game less of a fighting/grinding experience and more of a play experience…
And the fresh start servers letting everyone who are coming back NOT be subjected the resident playerbase who are decked out in massive gear. (gained legitimately or otherwise.)
Leveling is a lot better. You got a tiny bit more endgame content other than joining zerg chest runs. Fresh server starts with a bit fewer exploits.
Once more people on FSS hit level 60 and discover the endgame a lot of them will still quit or take a break though.
3 main reasons.
People are confused right now because they consider nything that isnt a basic move is an exploit, like the dolphin dive which is where you roll, prone, then jump in a proper sequence to move yourself from a bad position to a better one with only the cost of one dodge but travel a good distance. But people who call that an exploit are just being childish. There is a few spots that someone can get stuck in still and if they go on long enough trying to fight their way out and dont just type in /unstuck they will just spawn right back to where they were because they dont understand that unstuck just resets their possition to where they were 30 seconds ago. Currently there is a “campings not unlocked yet” bug where you cant craft a campsite but thats a simple log out log back in solution but as some people who have chosen to join over populated servers goes, the que times can be exceedingly long.
I miss the tuning orbs. It was the major reason to get your stone crafting level up. Now the only reason is to make jewelery and for mutator orbs which joining someone on a mutator run is just a socially hostile experience just watching people get reemed out for dying and getting vote kicked only to bring in a new player which is a shrodingers complex whether that person will be as good, better or worse than the origional group member.
The tuning orbs also kept players from farming the expeditions for the best items or at least slowed down that function and put more of an emphasis on focus crafting levels and building on luck for that crafting skill set. Now everyone just farms expeditions, and arenas. They would farm territory wars too if the pvp missions were more fun but maybe thats a god send in disguise.
There are tons of options to prevent people from farming dungeons and probably the worst one was tuning orbs. If you think grinding stonecraft and grinding materials to play main content of the game is good idea, ok. But with this mechanic only 20k people play this game.? Or paying gold to people for playing main content. It was most ridiculous thing i’ve ever seen in any mmorpg.
I flip flop over the love hate of the game being an mmo or mmorpg and i tend to bias towards the rpg component. This game; especially one that is moving towards pvpve content with an emphasis for pve should push for pacing. However the damage output for high level players in the open world should be minimized to match the damage to a low level as much as that low level player is capable of inflicting as a measure to reduce griefing. Yes being friendly to low level players is a priority if you intend to expand your fan base as a business. With that said being able to soak more damage is still a function of being a higher level so there is a noticable advantage, but at least the newb has a chance to escape as opposed to one shooting low level newbs for the sheer heck of it with a ranged weapon from a high place yelling at the top of your lungs through the mic, “I’m zues!!!”
Yes I have seen that on day 7 in monarch bluffs.
Either everyone is on the same level and we completely remove the grind which would be a move entirely focused on pvp which I personally find to not be a or we push for a slowing factor near the peak of the level cap to give endgame players something to struggle towards and make higher level players have to work for their desire to grief new players in the game.
Fresh start servers and the game is only good before max level. While people are leveling it’s alive, hit 60 time to quit before you start doing chore content.

I suspect asmongold is why the game is hyped up at the moment. Dude has a lot of loyal fans, usually 60,000+ average viewers on twitch and even more on youtube and he has been telling them to flock to new world with him for a while now.
Will it last? Only time will tell. If he stays in the game, they might…but if he goes back to his first love --wow at the end of the month for their new dragon expansion…he might take his flock with him unfortunately \o/
Before* you missed that part. And yeah the tuning orbs was a function to slow things down. The crafting materials could have been increased for them but it wasnt a bad mechanic by design. It just put a soft limit on the expedition farming being done. When players could sell tuning orbs it was a great way to make money in the game.
