Why NW will not make a comeback

Thing is, LA mightve been released three years ago but it was not launched WW. New World on the other hand had a leg up. Everyone has been exposed to NW as almost nobody outside the Asian market even knew what LA was. LA has never had the amount of exposure up until now. I see people comparing LA chart to NW player base and it is asinine. NW can recover ONLY if it goes F2P. Nobody will buy the game unless they either pull a FFXIV (and they can) or they go f2p. The difference in these companies is not miniscule. As SE seem to value the community feedbacl and AGS does not and are very lazy compared to the former. LA is in a near perfect spot, as after theyve had time to make the game content rich over 3 years they now get worldwide exposure and theyve never had number like they did until now. We can stop trying to compare the 2 now.

Or, they can continue to develop the game, people can take a break to play other stuff and over time the quality of NW can improve without them trying to rush content to meet the demand of an extreme negative player base.

NW is a great game, had it released with more polish the player count would still be much higher. But it was rushed out the door to meet a deadline that should never have existed to begin with (when they promised 1 year after beta 2) and then forced time gated bad content to try and give the people something to do.

Go play your pay for convenience LA (I will be as well for a bit) or something else. Check back on NW in a year, it isn’t costing you a dime for the game to sit in your steam library

New World already sold millions of copies. Basically almost everyone who had an interest in New World (or just wanted to try a new game) has bought New World already, and all these players still own the game. Many will have tried it and felt it’s not ready yet. Other games experienced that. I played GW2 at launch, was not happy with hair options for my beloved Sylvari (yes, it can be petty things like that), hated when fractals became end game, left - and returned at a later date to spend loads of money in GW2, all expansions bought (including the one coming), mount skins spilling out of my ears, and of course Sylvari hair! :stuck_out_tongue:

New World is not a sub game. It does not matter it dropped player numbers, all that matters for New World is to plough along now, tweak, add QoL, drop a content bomb that will cost a bit of money to play - and the game will make money again. By that time, the cash shop will be more beefed out (ESO cash shop was total rubbish to start, heck even PWI fashion trickled in, regardless of the fact all that fashion already existed in the Chinese and Malaysian version).

You think too short term, and you think of sub games. New World has every chance to still fly high, very high in fact, but it will take time now to add the content.

But it technically it has a sub, it’s called Prime Gaming… which is the same sub lost ark NA/EU is using

honestly probably was already planned out from the beginning to be f2p sometime down the line.

initial b2p model was basically a gofundme so they can finish their game

Nah, that’s just some skins every now and then, and possibly a bit of store currency. Compare that to real subs, affecting your QoL like in ESO, or back then in Lotro. These games you can play for free, but without the sub your experience has been greatly lacking. New World just offers some freebies which will not affect your gaming experience as such.

And many of us had Prime already anyway. I did. I sit in the middle of nowhere Ireland, without Amazon Prime I’d pay myself silly on shipping :stuck_out_tongue:

Fair enough, I thought you meant in the sense that NW didn’t had one.

I already have Prime too, that’s why it doesn’t bother me as much… but yeah, same old B2P vs F2P model

Actually lost ark has a sub, it’s called the crystalline aura.

Not really.

NW can pull players back with new content, a lot of content - but is not able to get players back with bug fixing and small changes or content that can get finished in 1 week.

The issue of NW apart from all the bugs is on a macro layer - the game has nothing comparable in the end game. I have never seen a game without any stats or ladder system in pve and pvp that tracks your effort in some way.

What you get in pvp is an endgame screen with points - in pve… well you can see you finished gold 10. There is no ranking at all, also there is not enough modes to dig into and get compared.

This game has a content issue - and content I define with missing game modes and existing game modes with ranking systems.
No ranks, no grind - I had to pause the game cause I finished it… sure the bugs are annoying (movement bug is the worst) but overall - there is no goal. If the goal is max gold cap, 625 ilvl and BIS items… well than its finished in 1k hours, you cant climb anything. No competitive system = also no creator and influencers.

to fix it:

  1. ranked battlegrounds - cross server
  2. ranked arena - cross server
  3. ranked time based pve mythical dungeons
  4. implementing real complex raids with ranked system

new weapon new area … and then we get the game running.
If it takes 2 much time, game wont recover - same happened to a lot of MMOs.

Why?

Because, the game advertised a bait and switch. What a train wreck every stage of this has been. Aside from the beauty of exploring the <40 zones for the first time there was only cheating layered on cheating layered on Band-Aids creating more cheats. Gimmick harvesting and crafting was thrown in a useless time-sync and a ruse to a lack of content.

Why would someone waste their time, again? Our time, which cannot be given back was abused.
