Dont try?.. i played many OPR… everyone tries to win… but somehow i am always on the loosing team… thats because OPR is broken. the queueing should be solo… and teams should be randomly made. and 2 entries from the same PC blocked…
Every player should have a choice to pick (default) gear before OPR starts… so everyone has the same damage,… defense etc… thats a good OPR… now its a complete mess… totally out of balance and its mostly the same ppl winning…
I think it will just lead many players to play whatever build they need to in order to pad their scores. Right now people would flock to dex range or healing. Melee, in general, cannot deal damage like other builds, so with the current scoring system many solo players would stay away from melee, which would make the matches worse, IMO.
Maybe changing the scoring system to encourage taking objectives would help select for a more healthy meta; I don’t know.
You know the discussion about possible hidden mechanics regarding gear and damage output/damage mitigation.
Well, I tested this last night.
625 constituion gear (named sets from PVP track), light build with medium chest.
5x resilience
4x shirking fort
200 con
Battle Bread
Int dex build with blunderbuss for defensive perks, the goal was not to do damage, but to survive.
I was literally dying with in a single stun, by a single melee. About 3 seconds after popping defensive perks.
2 melee was a literal GCD, or 1 second.
This happened throughout the match, and the match after, and the match after.
Last time I played (a few months ago) I tested the same thing, but in heavy…the results were not much better. In both scenarios I was unable to escape and I died damn near instantly.
And yet. I see the EXACT SAME PLAYERS who global me, taking on 5-8 people, living through all of it, killing many and even escaping, often teleporting away from the enemies. I am still trying to figure out how teleporting works.
Unless you are the hack or the savant, here’s the answer to making OPR the best pvp experience available in online gaming. Stop worrying about your score. I lead deaths most every round, I get very few kills…but Im a boss on herding zergs, leading multiple people away from their fort, doing objectives and harassing the crap out of ranged. OPR is the funnest activity on the funnest game out there.
I don’t disagree with you at all. But it appears to me that the issue is not so much dying, but what can often happen afterwards.
Due to the amount of toxic premades and “bros” feeding off each other, it simply leads to harassment.
I have played against many of these folks. Died a ton, said nothing to them, dont even know them but when I queue and they are on my side, they taunt me, harass me, refuse to heal me, call me a scrub etc etc.
Basically, from a psychological animalistic perspective those who die a lot are seen as being the weak ones in the herd, and are open to abuse because of this.
Oddly, even those who blatantly use cheats to get the advantage treat you the same way…as if you had an option to not dying. This can be seen heavily in FPS games.
So, while I agree completely with you to play as you like and to have fun, there are other factors that make people hate this content.
I have NEVER seen this. Towards me or others. Do you start it? I see you say you don’t start it. I get teabagged sometimes but IDC about that either. Like water off a duck. It’s cute to be honest. What server are you on?
In fact, I have spawned in, stood still (acting AFK) and their entire squad was t bagging me and giving me grief. I ignore it because I know trolls want the attention.
I still play OPR but only really now for daily gyps as its basically a long range game. It is rare for a fun even matchup but is nice to see some regular faces and even the regular players who teabag my squishy self when I die.
The main problem is there is not much else PVP content wise. The game has been out a good while, we have had some extra dungeons and even musical instruments (who wanted those?).
Yet we have nothing new on the PVP side instanced wise or zone wise. We need some more OPR style content such as 10v10 CTF / faction v faction zone a bit like DAOC (for those who can remember). There are plenty of such modes in other games which can force more teamwork. Have some smaller maps with solid geometry as obstacles / cover (to stop the Nvidia crowd removing the scenery).
What about a queued version of the war mechanic without any ownership penalty?
Many new players have zero chance of entering a war as it is mostly 625 GS or a swift removal from the team. Just look at any other half decent MMO and see they generally have more than one activity.
From a design perspective it must be just as easy to add a new PVP type zone as it is to add a new expedition with boss mechanics etc. We have a test realm so easy to get feedback.
Valhalla doesn’t mess around like that. We have premades, we have monster killers, we have tear it up one sided smackdowns, but everyone just shuts up and puts their head to the grindstone. The only people who get picked on are the ones who tell us to “u al unstall” or “this team terribad” (typically hacks) and that’s pretty much all I’ve ever seen or took part in. Im on Seer not as often and I don’t see it there either. Sounds like you need to use that token. And maybe I’ll start a toon there, sounds like some good harrassback material
You can get full shirking fort and resilient set for under 5k on any server btw, I do well (for my own starndards) in 600 purple gear with less than maxed skills on Seer.
I have full shirking fort and resilience. My current build is 200 con and I still get smacked (literally globaled, I mean 1-2 seconds).
I have been playing PVP since 2004 World of Warcraft. I spent 7 grueling months grinding out High Warlord, I achieved arena master. I did PVP in GW2 at launch, SWTOR, Warhammer Online, ESO and although I had my qualms with each of them, I would rank new worlds PVP the absolute worst of the bunch, I mean by a massive factor.
I run a 9900k at 4,7 ghz all cores, 32g ram, 1200 watt seasonic PS, regulated 120v, RTX 2080 (with game settings on LOW for PVP) and I have a 300 up/down fiber connection through AT&T.
I have never seen so much teleporting in my life. The combat happens way too fast, the damage taken is absurd, the damage I do is lack luster. Even when I maxed 625 bis weapons, gems, blah blah blah.
None of it makes any sense to me (why the combat is so crummy, why I take so much damage and why I do so little). In fact, I put in a bug ticket asking if my account/character had a debuff on it. Because none of it adds up.
Yet, any other MMORPG I pick up, I am able ot make sense of it and build a toon appropriately (and ESO is INFINITEY more complex regarding builds than new world).
Welcome back, all I can say is I feel great pain every opr, but it’s because I am slow twitch and spaz pinky and do stupid things 80% of the time, maybe 15% because of premades, 5% because of weapon balance. I get 0-4 kills, always near the top on deaths. You;d think that’s where the pain comes from…nope. IT’s from all that running. That’s the only thing I don’t like.
I’m talking about damage in terms of score purposes.
Occasionally a melee player can lead the damage charts, but it’s usually going to be range or healers.
It is significantly easier, at least for me, to do > 1million damage as a range player opposed to a melee player. Moreover, if you are on the losing team, you can still do high damage as range, but that’s not usually the case for melee.
Arena have own issues. I have friends i used to playu that quit first 2-3 months and came back. All are gona again couse of arena. Issue is that arena have lot of good players and game does not tell you that. So ppl feel that other dudes have better gear or weapon or sth when they lose. Ranked mode is very much needed there.
