Why the AFK banning is bad

not necessarily the que number i guess, but more exactly the que time, I think even for 10-15min errands if people never did this sort of thing, and actually left the game when they weren’t on the que times in most places would drop way down. for us in the aussie servers could go from 3hrs in peak down to 20-30mins

Afk see we time out are standard. And the mechanic is implemented for a purpose. In fact New world already has a very generous afk timer. People who break rules just to for their agenda should understand their actions have consequences.

those are a bit one and the same though, they are all part of the same problem.

  • Increasing server size is something that will take a long time.
  • Adding more servers was the first option because it is short and easy to do.

They kick the people that play by the games rules and afk. They ban the players that use 3rd party hacks to break the games rules, easy as that. Any other competitive game out there, will ban you even quicker for using these sorts of things.

Damn straight it’s only fair that people who exploit the AFK system gets banned, because they are exploiting to get an advantage and the advantage being that they don’t get kicked for being AFK.

You’ve got to be some kind of special snowflake to not understand the issues caused by these AFK exploiters.

That’s a moot argument. When exploiting, in any form or fashion you are violating the policies you agreed to when you booted up the game for the first time. People auto-running into walls/fences or using movement macro scripts are exploiting a feature in the game, and Amazon Games does nothing wrong when banning these people doing so.

You’re talking about ‘unfair’. No, what’s not fair is tons of people AFK exploiting, causing major queues, adding to an already existing issue.

If people have to stay in-game for hours on end, they’ve got priority issues in life.

They should shower and eat before they start the game up. Besides, no one need more than 5-8 minutes to prepare a simple meal or go to the toilet. If they do, why should everyone else have to suffer because of their inconsideration?

We’re all born with a brain. Time for people to start using it, eh?

yes and no,

  • as an example have you ever left the game, just to re-que cause you know you will be back in 2hrs etc.
  • or have you run into the wall to afk for 01mins cause you have an errand to do.

Probably 300-400 ppl are doing this or something similar in game for all the hours of peak. Then you have the second set of 500-600 of a 1500 que that don’t actually want to play right now, they want to play in an hour or 2’s time when they are free/ just coming off work, or coming back to their computer after an errand.

That is ~1000 players that are actually afk, you take those people out of the game and que, and the que will drop down to 300-500, and will move a lot faster.

However that is the thing, because people know how long the que is, they structure their time around it.

  • if they are in the game they will do anything to not be forced out of it (lengthens que time).
  • if they know they will be kicked they will leave and re-que (lengthen the que)

however both these types of people are just lengthening the time it takes to get into the game, if no one did this the que would actually be quite short in a number of places (that is an ideal world).
the other ideal would be if they had closed each server faster, so it wasn’t over populated. They really just need to come out with server transfers and quickly lock the servers once they are populated.

Its not a debate. Amazon has already released a statement saying they will be punishing them.

You can accept the reality of the situation or you can try to get people to believe and live in your reality. The fact of the matter is AGS will punish you for it so do what thou wilt.

Thank you for being a sane human being.

And thank you as well. I’m at work so I don’t have time to elaborate on the points as well as you did . Thank god there is still sane humans around

To put an end-all here que times are are problem from both sides. realisticly amazon should have closed off these servers as soon as ques hit over 100 people, and then if over the next 48hrs when in peak that server has a que less than that, allow the difference into the server, and close off again. These types of tactics help to keep a que moving, and not have the servers overpopulated.

On the other side, players are also making the que times longer. They afk even for short times, because of the initial que problem, however this just increases the que times to be even longer. For some regions AU being a strong one, there are actually enough servers to hold all the people queuing 24/7, but since people refuse to move the ques remain (I can understand if your guild owns land in that place, but I hope once the transfer character is open, people actually spread out).

You need to see the doctor.

Surely a better solution would be to extend the AFK timer (even temporarily) and then ban those circumventing it? Most folk do seem to say they understand those doing it because they’ll be gone 30-90 mins, but not those who intend to return 6 hours later. So make the AFK timer be 60mins, then those who genuinely are only just nipping off to eat, shower, call their mum, whatever don’t feel the pressure to AFK-avoid or risk sitting in a 6 hour queue, and those who are just blagging it can be punished with no one torn on the issue.

60 mins is a little much but 30-40 mins would be acceptable to me for sure.

Poop before you play.

I don’t mind the new system but I do hope it can also detect botters.

Not at this point at least, I already saw botters (dumb ones) making a path over and over.

You have no proof this will remedy the queue times, I’ve sat in 5 hr queues that only had 400 people. You’re going to shrink the queue time, because yes it will remove afk folks, however you know have whatever the server cap is (I’ve heard 2k thrown around) actually playing and now you need someone to either get kicked/crash/or log for the night to go down to 399, which will take as long if not longer.

AFKing to avoid loosing server slot is an issue, it’s rooted in the fact there aren’t enough servers/servers aren’t large enough to hold the community of the game in a meaningful way. If servers are capped at 2k (again I’m not sure here). that’s INCREDIBLY small for a game of this nature/size.

Sorry if I don’t feel bad for you if want to stay in the server while I can’t get in because you AFK. Here’s the world tiniest violin playing for you.

Lets be clear - you can’t “exploit” an afk system.

Someone holding down “W” on their keyboard isn’t an exploit, it’s input. Stop panting these folks are cheaters or hackers they’re not. You’re just upset you can’t get into the game when you want - and you’ll continue to be when you realize this isn’t the fix that’ll resolve the queue times.

Someone using a 3rd party software system to maintain activity in the game like a bot or something like that, that’s exploiting.

You’re not the judge here, if someone wants to play 22hrs a day that’s their choice. It’s a free world and you don’t get to tell them they can’t, just like they don’t get to tell you what you can and can’t do. Constructive criticism and conversation is helpful, this is naïve.

On top, there’s a sad new reality: We all need to live now like Amazon employees.

Apparently the time before you get kicked out of the game has been lowered to 10 min.
I repeat - 10 minutes.

Amazon employees don’t get a proper toilet break to have a nice deuce and we won’t either from now on.

Except that AGS has said anything that avoids the afk timer in bad faith is exploiting the system. You can argue semantics all day if you want the fact is if you choose to do it you will be punished.

Play for 36 hours straight I don’t care, just don’t go afk or circumvent the system
