Yup. Iron is needed for everything. Need to make silver, guess what, you need iron. Want to make gold, guess what…you need silver… Which requires iron. Want to make steel? Guess what… More iron.
I tend to enjoy it this way. It makes sense to me. As you mine iron you become more experienced in mining it, which is to say knowing what it looks like and tracking it.
Go level your mining on rocks. it really doesn’t take long to get iron tracking with this method and you can either dump the stone until you hit the level you want or you can walk back into town and level up your stone cutting.
So should there be a map of all resources available to all players on starting the game? No. No, because you are new to the land and you have to get out and explore to find things, nothing is given in New World…
That’s total nonsense. As a total newb, who never played Beta, I found iron in a matter of minutes. Stop trying to make this a “for the newbies” post, and be honest; it’s about you being lazy and entitled. MMO’s are about exploring, and figuring things out, not sitting in the corner having your hand held.
Jeebus why do you even bother playing, when you cant be bothered to actually play.
I understand your frustration with finding iron, I had the same frustration when I was new in beta. Just play the game and keep your eyes peeled, it’s fairly common. The exception is Windsward so if you started there that might be part of your frustration.
If you’re hurting for a resource, try googling “new world resources map” and you’ll find some very easy to use tools that help you find what you need.
I personally agree that there needs to be a better source of iron, specifically, for beginner players. I think that the devs balanced it around endgame, so it’s just a hurdle you have to get over as a new player.
ya’ll tripping me out. I was a newbie, too. I also got frustrated looking for iron…I also would get mad when I have my sights set and then Billy Bob The Mage swoops in and takes it. You know what I did? I remembered where those nodes were, and spent an hour or so runnin around that area just grabbing what I can, when I can, flowers a long the way, a few mobs and a level later…BAM. Guess what? level 50 mining. There u go. It takes TIME and EFFORT and the reward is satisfying
because u can find iron everywhere even past starter zones! Once u have the tracker, it works everywhere, even places where u haven’t been and therefore don’t know where the nodes are. It’s meant as a reward. why do u ppl want it to be so easy! thats how stuff gets boring x___x
getgud
So after reading all of this ander also most of the Answers other players made.
First of all i do KINDA agree with you. For me the entire Tracking system is completly uselss. you dont spot iron unless you are like 25m Of the iron when its already in sight.
Next thing is, as you said kinda newbee unfriendly but everyone on my server who asks for iron nodes or anything i basicly copy paste " New World Map | Resource Locations, Named Mobs, Dungeons and Lore Pages | NewWorld-Map.com ".
People have been using 3rd party programms in every MMO there is to optimize their farming. Especially currently with all the queue time people have more than enough time to inform their self about anything they have an interest in.
But what ever, devs will do as they think its okay and i also personally dont see a problem in this whole thing. If people are interested in farming iron or what the hell ever they gotta go get their intel. Why wouldn’t people with more expierence get value of it?
I thought it was funny that I can visually spot mining nodes long before they show up on the compass. The only thing I need the tracking for is stuff like nuts that hide in the bushes.
what bugs me are all the people that are being toxic on this. instead of “nah, here is why we think we get tot rack iron after we’ve spent ten thousand hours looking for a single node.” they attack and belittle instead of being mature and capable of discourse.
I agree, being able to track iron after leveling past it IS frustrating, to say the lest, however I feel that the only reason they do that is to give you more time to play the game instead of keeping you searching for ANY NODE for days on end.
Which, if you can’t tell, is something a bid ridiculous that we have to do from the start. they ignored feedback because int he end, they only care about money and the sales from the initial purchases are going to drop off rather sharply by march.
Some of your replies raise OTHER issues:
-
Why is iron in EVERYTHING!?
In any competently-made MMO, lower-level resources are rarely used by high-level players, exactly so new players are not fighting veterans for resources.
Also, to prevent resource-scarcity like this. -
Why the hell do I need IRON to make CLOTH PANTS!?
These are cloth clothing with 0 metal in them.
It’s like this entire system was made by people who have never played an MMO before.
my thoughts exactly, the area of tracking is so small you have to basically be standing next to the thing before it shows. They might as well not even offer it.
Iron would be used for the metal frame the loom, or even the heddle bar maybe, as they’d need to be replaced. Just off the top of my head, that’s the only way I could justfy it.
But then again you’d have already used the loom to get the bloody cloth by that point!
That seems totally silly.
Had a similar thought regarding leather within the cloth dress. There was no visible (or underlying by the looks of it) corsetting and even then it would all be linen for the most part.
Seems just like a silly way to get people to trade in the post more.
Isn’t mining and crafting separate? You can over-level mining to be able to stay ahead of your crafting and keep tracking everything you need at the time.
Zippers, Buttons, Snaps… Etc.
Anyone can skin a deer, but you don’t learn how to track them without lots of training.
Anyone can hit a stone, but you wont know how to locate ore veins without knowing what to look for.
Anyone can pick a plant, but takes years of knowledge to know how to locate specific herbs.
etc, etc.
How it’s set up makes sense to me.
Did you go out trying to find Iron outside of Windsward once and came back to write this post?
Tracking Iron is based on your mining level. The ability to create tier 3 Steel (which requires Iron) is tied to your Smelting level. So no it’s not pointless to be given the ability to track and no I don’t think its something you should have by default.
To your other point there is a very clear visual indicator to show depleted Iron nodes (and other minable resources) there is a colored pile of rubble on the ground where it once stood.
I like that valuable resources require searching and hunting requires hunting and leveling those things up makes you an Expert of a certain tier.
