Hello all, figured I’d share my experience this morning. Woke up to Windows having deployed updates to my machine over night. Logged into NewWorld and had huge stuttering issues, unplayable. GPU utilization was nosediving every couple of seconds. Updated Nvidia drivers to latest, 496.13 and tested in-game graphic settings on all levels. Still issues. Noticed even typing into Discord has stuttering/lag. Looked up most recent windows updates, saw two on 10/14.
Uninstalled KB5005539 and the issue is completely gone.
If you’re having sudden stuttering in game and your machine was updated over night, try uninstalling this latest windows KB5005539 update.
Odd, i was having the game crashing on me after the update. KB5005539 is pending for install so not really sure if it’s actually the issue in my case, must be the new Nvidia drivers.
I should clarify I wasn’t having crashing issues, just stuttering that suddenly started after this microsoft update. And unstable GPU usage/spikes. KB5005539 also seems to impact/modify NET framework and memory API’s. So this issue/fix may not affect you or be related to your crashing.
I would double check that it didn’t re-install itself. As soon as I uninstalled the KB5005539 update, it immediately wanted to reinstall it during the next reboot. So I paused updates and then disabled the windows update service entirely as a temporary measure, since MS isn’t paying me to debug their crap for them. lol Obviously for most people, this isn’t recommended, but if you’re comfortable with it, you can easily google how to turn off (disable) the windows update service.
That nasty update literally installed itself without me knowing.
I have a metered connection and updates disabled via group policies, didnt stop win10 from installing it. Drove me nuts yesterday till a friend heard me ranting and asked me about that specific update.
Fps seemed to be locked at 30, game felt not in focus with my 3080 running on 100% usage like mad.
Happened out of the blue, i might add.
