Albion Online? You see the playerbase there? Best place to PvP is 1v1 in the contested dungeon, red and black zones are basically empty. What game have you been playing?
Nah, bro. YOU clearly haven’t got a clue. What @2laky describes is literally what happened in many PVP-only games, and I’ve seen it first-hand.
AoE 4 just released with peak of 45k players you think 200k + is bad?
looool
doesn’t matter, since you’ll have the murder hobos in open world, effectively blockading any crafting. So even if what you say is true, no one will be able to do the crafting needed to gear up for wars or other controlled PVP.
Only thing I enjoy about Albion in terms of PvP and gear, it can be easily injected back into the market. That makes it easy to gear up in decent gear again to head back out.
We’re talking about NW now, you get full loot and people drop their gear. What are you gonna do? Pick up all their player (binded) gear and salvage it for 1g and some repair parts. Does no one think fully of every circumstance before speaking on this topic, or do they just like throwing words on the internet?
20-30k concurrent players (nobody played that game through Steam btw, so don’t even look at those #) on a single shard server (not this 2005 100 server BS we have in NW), with amazing economy, balanced PVP, great storyline and gear…
You do realize that 80% of NW was copied from Albion, don’t you? They just made it in 3rd person instead of isometric and much better graphics and deleted full loot PVP, which ruined economy and everything else… the tiered crafting, the gear tiers, classless system, the biomes with resources - that is pretty much all copied from Albion.
Oh and in Albion (or Eve) - you can actually become famous as its all one world, for eitehr PVP, crafting, or being an economy mogul. In NW - its nothing, 0 recognition, 0 reward, and there is no “server first” as there is like 100s of servers…
EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE is literally in the yellow zones. Dueling and/or doing contested dungeons. Dipping in and out of town, playing faction flags. NO ONE is doing full loot. EVEN with the market they have available, I don’t care what numbers you are using that populates the server.
You DO realize those are universal principles that exist entirely independently from Albion, right? Because other games have used them long before Albion. I really hope you do know that because if not, then… well, pretty much invalidates any insight you might have.
been playing full loot PVP MMOs since 99 (starting with Asheron’s Call) - trust me, when I say that I have a little clue.
In NW Alpha - DEVs missed a critical feature (safe zones), which pretty much undermined the entire system. Either because they were lazy, ran out of time, or just not well educated on full loot (after all - they did copy 80% of features from a full lot game like Albion, except half-assed it, and pulled the plug on full loot at the last moment and now we have this burning mess we are in)
Errh…
MMOs are a niche in all of the gaming genres.
PvP is a niche in MMOs
Full Loot is a niche in PvP
You would just end up with a toxic cesspit, yet again mind you, with people doing gank squads outside of towns so the minute you leave and your “protection” falls off you get jumped.
That in turn will scare away the remainders of the people, as it was doing during full-loot back in the days, which in turn will dwindle down the remaining PvP population 'cos there’s no easy prey left.
The game would die out rapidly.
Full Loot MMOs are rarely profitable or particularly long term as you are trying to appeal to a niche within a niche withing a niche. Is there a market for it? Absolutely, is that market saturated enough as is. Yes.
If you want Full Loot MMO, why don’t you go play EVE Online, Lineage 2, Darkfall which is apparently being revived a 3rd and 4th time, I’m sure there’s more.
oh so there is no crafting in Eve Online and Albion? (which literally states: Craft, Gather, Fight and manage real estate) since both games are full-loot sandbox MMOs with force PVP?
LMAO…
Have you guys even seen the streamers who stream Albion? Stuff is so toxic it’ll burn right through the hardest metals haha. It’s a poopshow.
BOE/BOP clearly needs to go… sorry I forgot that I need to hold everyone’s hand here
Literally BOP and BOE are my next biggest qualm as of someone who played sandbox MMOs - I cant pass down of my crafted (but already worn) stuff to guildies or just to randoms, because its locked.
Its the stupidest archaic feature of a 2005 MMO (that shall not be named)… I can’t believe they last minute slapped it here (it was their bandaid for removing full loot PVP)
So at no point outside of dying as a criminal (yes, the game had a working criminal system) did the game have full loot. Whites dropped loot out of their inventory.
Now, I’m all for them ditching the meaningless faction system and going back to guilds vs. guilds, open world warfare, but I HIGHLY doubt that would happen. Would that game reach close to 1 million player concurrency? Probably not. Would full loot bring back the already lost population? Lol, absolutely not if history has shown us anything.
Ugh wut? Wrestling and boxing/MMA is toxic too. How dare they punch each other in the face!
No need to hold my hand big guy, but if you’re gonna sit at the big boy table, you have to bring all your slides for talking points. This is coming from an old UO red player.
Clearly you don’t. The idea of “Zero-to-Hero” runs has existed in PVP environments for years now. Most shining example of it was (today cataclysmically failed) game called Last Oasis. The idea was that you respawn to a distant area of the map with nothing but your undies, gather some basic resources to build basic tools and weapons, and then grief enemy players, rob them of resources, gear, and weapons. You have nothing to lose while they have everything to lose.
Naked zergs of Zero-to-Hero have ruined not only Last Oasis, but eventually any other game that force Open World PVP. Safe zones or not, that is just how it is. Safe zones do literally nothing.
Casuals being lured into PvP, vs your analogy with MMA fighters doesn’t work. We would have everyone trying to be an MMA fighter wouldn’t we.
WARs and Outpost Rush are the focus of end-game PvP. The issues are plenty highlighted there.
Simply adding full loot doesn’t solve those issues at all. You may think they do, you may have an opinion, that it does, but it doesn’t. Even with full loot, there will still be an economy and there will still be player trading/selling.
Typically these are different devs. Combat Devs are not the same devs that work on over arching economy systems and the like. The biggest issue with this game at it’s current state is the lack of Quality Assurance (QA) and testing. I get that AGS is trying to solve issues, but when they create more than they fix, there needs to be a step back.
My man, time invested isn’t a valid indicator of being reasonable.
And even if it was, a ton of people here can say they also have 20k hours on whathever genre is being discussed while strongly disagreeing with you. Then what?
