With as much complaining about PvP balance, would the original PvP design of New World have survived?

Ah, the good old days of D&D, paper and pen based with real dice I assume you mean.

There are full-loot MMORPGs out there (Albion Online) for example, has a sustained player-driven economy that has actual working systems in place to support its full-loot environment.

Think of having 625 GS gear as consumables that you lose when you die in a PvP zone - at the same time, these very items are craftable, and drops from dungeon loot etc. which also can be crafted by players in bulk which supports a healthy player economy, gold sinks and generation should be closely monitored though, as to manage the inflation rates and stabilize the server economy.

I mean anyone who isn’t like younger than 25 basically did that. I’m also not advocating for it, I’m trying to get you back on the topic that you’re derailing LOL

Those are small niche games and that is not what amazon wanted…a small niche game. New World was a huge success in the number of boxes it sold and it would not have sold even half of that if it had not changed course.

Small how exactly? It has 4.2mil total players, and 80k daily active players. MORE players than New world.

Not to mention, the game also recently released its support for cross-platform gameplay which means a LOT of MOBILE players playing as well.

You lost me a bit, but I assume you were trying to say “younger than 25”. Why would anyone under 25 want to buy a game they know nothing about? I don’t see what age has to do with it really.

I think you started down this route

when my point was actually that they sold that many, so made the money from selling to a larger playerbase than if the game had stayed in its original (alpha or pre-alpha) state with the focus on permanent PvP.

How do you get 80k concurrent players? Steam shows 6k

That mmo pop website does not say how they estimate daily players, and while it claims Albion has 80k it also says NW has almost 150k players lol

Because we were kids and most of us didn’t have smartphones to get on YouTube to spoil ourselves of the whole game lmfao.

Yeah no, you started talking about copies sold for some reason when we’re all talking about “player retention if…”

yet these same people would spend $40 on a game they know nothing about?

Of course I did, the topic of the thread being “With as much complaining about PvP balance, would the original PvP design of New World have survived?” Is the survival of a game not related to the amount of copies sold then?

No. I’ll again bring up the example of Anthem.

5mil copies, dead in months.

And what has Anthem got to do with the original design of New World surviving?

Exactly. Idk why you keep on with this topic.

So anyway, in my opinion, the original design of new world would’ve sold less copies and been dead by now.

Albion wasn’t a steam game until recently, lmao. The fact that you didn’t even know that AO has a standalone client where MAJORITY of the players play from says a lot.

I even gave you an outdated playercount

Albion Online Active Player Count & Population (mmostats.com)

This is the latest with their mobile release - 171k daily estimated active players, 11.5million estimated total players.

So you can ascertain that with their mobile release they gained about +200% more players ever since

So for people to say that a “full-loot” MMORPG would not last is an EXTREMELY bold statement that doesn’t age well

Because you keep bringing up Anthem

I answered your question. I said “no” and gave an example.

Do you mind answering OPs? LOL

I would say that it’s not that a game is a “full loot mmorpg” that would sink it, it’s more of if New world were that genre of game + the way it’s been handled.

And you know what allowed this game (AO) to thrive? The game constantly releases updates every 6months to a year, along with the PVP BALANCE CHANGES every 2-3 weeks / month by not taking feedback from snowflakes in the forums who cry all day about “NERF X” or “REMOVE X WEAPON FROM THE GAME”

They have their own set of testers that actually play the game and provide valuable and credible feedback - that which is considered but overall still depends on the Lead balancing developer himself to actually determine what constitutes a balanced meta.

The ridiculous amount of BIAS people have in the New World forums for example is one that would sink a game if AGS took it to heart to balance based off on.

I’m talking about a different game not NW
