Wonky RNG system

Ive played almost every day since launch and now have trophy luck, gear and consumable luck. With hundreds maybe thousands of armors made and thousands of boss farms, chest runs and quests still no sign of harbinger chest, or gloves. Is this how luck works?

That’s how rng works my friend. Each time you open something its a fresh roll of rng not dependent on previous rolls. Don’t get me wrong, if we knew drop chances of every item we could calculate how statistically unlikely it is you haven’t gotten the drop youre looking for but still technically feasible.

Not saying that feels good in the slightest of course.

That’s not how Harbinger Chest/Gloves work.

You cannot craft them, they are not rewarded by a quest, get them from any bosses, or get them by looting chests.

Harbinger (All weights) chest and gloves drop in Ambusti Inferior (Lower Mines). They only drop in Ambusti Inferior, so to clarify - farming Leviathan won’t drop it (Ambusti Superior).

They only drop off of two mobs:

  • Scorchvein Sniper (lv63)
  • Scorchvein Supply Guard (lv63)

With 30%+ Luck I get 1 Harbinger drop roughly every 30-35 gear drops. However, it is not guaranteed 590+ GS.

I got a harbinger chest finally, but it’s around 500gs. I don’t know if it’s possible to get it in 590+ because of the mob levels. On the bright side the shoes and hat are really easy to farm from sirens dog (2nd to last house before the broken bridge at the end of the forecastle elite zone), and the pants are easy to farm from pools tentacle. You can even solo farm sirens dog, that’s how I did it.

If you port to the sirens shrine you can walk around the rocks and jump back onto the elite zone and get to sirens dog really easily, I used to get people to farm him after the arena.

After you get those pieces just finish the set with AE ward/weapon perk/refreshing gear from drops or market, or you can use the weald warden drops from gen.

I have had various Harbinger stuffs drop off of Rifleman, Supply Guards and other random mobs in Ambusti, ive also had various pieces of “Avenging” set drop in Lower Svikin. Though it has been awhile (not maining New World atm) since ive had them drop, i know they do, or did rather as that was before AGS implemented these “set” items to properly drop with a chance of matching player expertise, as such, i cannot say if the specific items will still drop from those mobs as the loot tables could have been changed. Either way thats where i can say ive seen those items drop in the past. Hope it helps.

The latest update has set it so level 59+ mobs can drop expertise up to and including 600GS

For example, while in Mangled Pox Gate, the level 60 Elite mobs would drop a 590+ GS item every 15 or so gear drops.

I’ve gotten gloves and chests at Ambusti at 590-600GS. It’s just not a Guarantee.

RNG to me is a misnomer. Because a real RNG (random) system would mean future “numbers” have 0 entropy connection to the past, and it should have 0 entropy connection to any other numbers in the present. By numbers, in this case it is the perks of the armor/weapon. But the various RNG systems implemented in NW seems to have a connection. For example, if I already have a chest piece of a set, I would have a much higher chance of getting other pieces, instead of armor again and again and again. I’m no math PHD, but that’s what RNG means to me.

And in reality, there is no such thing as RNG. Even online random number generators are not completely random.

But yes, the RNG in NW is very very… let’s say, RNG by design. Not sure what AG gets out of it. Maybe it was originally intended in a good way for players to spend a lot of time crafting, so as to not ask for new content so often. But I think that backfired. I still hope AG will recognize this shortcoming and make it more reasonable and predictable to craft items, or to have a better explaination of luck. The luck system we have today is not really luck. It is a misnomer, as it is today, it’s “luck to get a named item” - not “overall luck to get best items in general”
