Working As Intended - Shadows flickering red in tutorial area

Hi, I just started playing this game and can’t find anything about this. My computer is older but exceeds the minimum specifications. It handles just about anything I throw at it without any cooling problems or instability. I’ve had it for four years, and I’ve never had a driver crash, thermal event, system crash/BSOD, or any significant issues. So I suspect that the hardware is fine, but I’m not sure.

As soon as I get off the beach in the tutorial area and see the game logo, I start getting really bad red flickering in shadowed areas. As you can see in the video, it persists across all game settings. My system is capable of exceeding 60 FPS, but I had it capped here in case it was due to load. When I have all the settings on Low, my fans barely spin… and I have an aggressive profile, so I know that the system is probably not being taxed much at all.

I did a quick Alt+Tab to check temperature, and it was 60 degrees C, but I just noticed Nvidia’s overlay has a temperature monitor now, so I will report back in a moment. I know temps drop pretty quickly when you Alt+Tab.

Here is a video of it happening:

You can mostly just see the smoke to the right flickering. But before I thought to make a recording, there were a lot more things flickering, like the flowers, trees, and sky. You can see it a bit when I spin the camera, but I couldn’t replicate the worst of it, unfortunately.

As you can see, I’ve tried messing with all of the in-game settings and enabling an FPS cap. I’ve also tried disabling GSync to no avail. I was running some random outdated drivers when I first launched the game, so I updated them to the latest ones, but that did not fix it. I’m not sure what else to do.

Specs:
Windows 10
Intel Core i5-8600k
Nvidia GTX 1080
16 GB RAM

Here’s a DxDiag since people love that:

Edit:
So I limited my GPU’s power to 80%, just to be on the safe side, and headed back to “the spot” with a monitor to let it run for a bit. The GPU temp never went above 67 Celcius, and the power consumption never went above 160, which is well under the TDP of my card (EVGA FTW: 215W). So I’m not sure that I have a hardware issue, even though it kind of looks like it?

Edit:
I viewed other gameplay videos, and it looks to be intended (but ugly.) Whoopsies.

Hello @thrashette,

I am sorry to hear you seem to be having some video display issues…

From your last edit I gather this looks of to you now but here are some things you can try to troubleshoot video in general:

  1. Ensure your video drivers are up to date.
  2. Set Windows power settings to High Performance.
  • Press Windows + R, type “powercfg.cpl” into the Run window, and then press Enter.
  • Select the radio button next to the High performance power plan. You may need to click Show additional plans first.
  1. Adjust your in-game video settings. (sometimes just changing them back and forth will reset the issue)
  2. Clean boot Windows by following these instructions:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows (to reduce startup applications/Check for Malware).
  3. Reset your video driver software to the default settings.
  4. Check for evidence of overheating.
  5. Please verify the integrity of game with the Steam integrity check
How To run a Steam Integrity Check

If the issue persists after this, the scenario will require our tech team to look into your logs and follow up directly with other possibly sensitive account information that is best not posted on the forums so it would be best if you could please create a web ticket by going to Contact Us | Amazon Games.

I hope this helps and if not, do not hesitate reaching out to live support.

See you in Aeternum! :wolf:
