But I transferred earlier today and have had no problems. Best thing I ever did, and I was lucky with the server I chose, there is every colour on the map. So it’s good.
I never even thought to look for an exploit when I transferred. Why some people did, I don’t understand.
It’s what happens when people keep complaining and rushing their developer team to push something out before they felt it was ready and tested. An unforeseen glitch that allowed duped material.
AGS can’t win. Either they get bitched at for taking their time, or they get bitched at for appeasing the players.
They released the game with too few servers, they added servers to get people playing with the promise of server transfers to be soon. So yes we joined lower population servers to play because our friends servers were full and locked.
Some people got transfered in a state that allowed them to transfer goods and gold without their character recording that transaction to them. So If lets say I transfered thay way I could hand you my gold, log off and log back in and have all my gold again. I believe people found out by transfering servers, putting items in their storage shed and logging back in to find all the same items back in inventory and also in the shed.
Yea. But why are SO MANY people affected by something like server transfer.
Is it just a minority of gamers with big mouths
Did a lot of people follow some streamer with easy leveling / exploit guides and server transfer is part of this strategy
Does everyone expect server transfer ‘luxury’ to be steadily available and then still… why do so many people move their characters. Did noone really think about their first choice?
I remember being young and not reading too much. I played a long time on a completely wrong server in Ultima Online.
You know what I did… I restarted with a new character on the proper server, instead of keep playing on a wrong location. It’s what people expected you’d do.
Why and How does transferring characters become this big an issue…
Edit:
What confuses me is that server transfers should be the exception. Someone made an honest mistake : transfer.
It shouldn’t be the rule to start at server A and then move to B. Is that the new standard?
How in the seven hells is this even comparable to what activision-blizzard has done? What, a removal of server transfer tokens -compared- to abuse? And now we’re talking strictly the developers, not Amazon as a whole.
Perhaps people should re-direct their pitchforks and torches towards those that began exploiting - that is the reason why you currently have no server transfer tokens. Because of -them-. Because instead of decency, some people thought “hey let’s screw with the game”, when they unearthed a problem.
Just because there’s a loop hole, doesn’t mean you have to crawl through.
Ahh right… in that case I can imagine the annoyance. Especially if you were counting to transfer your character to be able to play with friends.
I picked a HIGH population server on purpose, because I knew I could switch to a better suited one after a while. I’m not part of the ‘masses’ and I solo
I came to the game a week late. By then the people I came to play with were on a locked server. My brother and I started on a low pop server with the intention to join the rest asap. I am not even annoyed about it though. I will transfer when it is ready and working properly. After all these years I know better than to expect perfection with transfers or merges.
Yea. I come from an old time in MMO world and I don’t know any better than to accept these things.
But it’s not a very good move to announce server transfers will be possible, because people will behave accordingly. (like a low pop server on purpose)
Expectation management and they did wrong there.
Not directly targeted at you personally, bust just in general to these sort of comments, seeing as to how people keep asking for communication from AGS.
But do read. AGS has given us an update, they have stated the following:
Update:
We’ve transferred approximately 150K players since character transfers went live. A small number of those have resulted in characters with an invalid data state that needs to be corrected. We’ve done that for those affected last night, but there are a still some new transfers affected that we see happening. We have paused character transfers and evaluate how we can prevent future occurrences of this problem. When that is resolved we’ll resume the service, with an announcement ahead of time.
How much more clear does AGS have to make it? We can’t expect them to just sit here and copy paste the same response to every single post because people don’t read.
I mean any kind of ETA would be honestly GREAT. That’s how they could be more clear.
If you think it’s gonna be a day, say that, if you think it’s gonna be a week, say that. The lack of any timeline whatsoever is why people are asking for an update.
The problem is though, more often than not when working with bugs like these, you will simply not know. So what if they give an ETA of 3 days, but it’s not met? People will be outraged. What if they play it safe, give an ETA of 4 weeks? People will be outraged.
